Do you drink coffee?
Ok, if I'm going to get serious about paleo there are a couple of ancient habits I have to break. First thing every morning, I make a cup of coffee and put in some half and half.
It occurrs to me that paleo eating may prohibit coffee, but I suspect many people will include a cup or two of coffee. If so, what do you put in it instead of cream or milk? |

I think Paleo eating is a template...not a diet, ya know? I drink 1 mug of coffee per day with no obvious ill effects. I gave up coffee for a month and didn't notice a difference when I added the one cup back in. Now, giving up the cream was MUCH more painful for me! LOL! HWC (raw is the best, but you don't have to be hardcore) is better than half-n-half as long as you can get it from grass-fed cows. That's the key. You have to consider where your food comes from. If that's out of your budget, I'm fairly certain an ounce of HWC in your coffee will not cause an early demise. I've learned to not be so extreme, or I would drive myself crazy.

When I was still drinking coffee I did coconut milk. I since stopped drinking pretty much anything but water now, with an decaf ice team from time to time.

I may try giving it up after the first of the year, to see if it makes a difference for me. I do consume lots less caffeine now than I used to, as I only drink 2 cups in the morning instead of all day, and I have switched to decaf tea or herbal tea.

Excellent!
Looking at it this way makes so much sense. I truly do believe that eating in accordance with our evolution is the healthiest, but I am a product of the 20th century. Your suggestion creates a common sense balance that for some reason I couldn't figure out on my own. thanks for the leg up. ![]() |

Avid, I am trying to slowly switch over to Decaf so that I can quit at any time without a headache.. And, wean myself off of cream and use full fat organic coconut milk in a can instead. It's one of the few allowable things in a can.. Now, to wean myself off the "sweet" part of my coffee that I love so much. I may never be able to give up stevia in my coffee. If I can't, so be it!

Yesterday I used my cappuccino maker to make a "coffee" out of an organic herbal mixture and I frothed up my almond and coconut milk mixture too, and added cinnamon on top and it was delicious and very satisfying due to the rich taste.
Sitting around drinking foamy drinks doesn't sound like a paleo behavior, but I'll bet they would have done this if they could have... ![]() ![]() ![]() |
