VLC Paleo Anyone?

I am wondering if anyone has ever tried a short blast of VLC Paleo. My 56 y/o DH had a stroke 2-1/2 weeks ago caused by a brain aneurysm and a tear to the artery near his brain stem. He now has to watch is BP extremely carefully and at 5"8" and 194 when he went into the hospital they want him to get his weight down to 170. When he came out of the hospital 8 days ago he weighed 188 and we started on a very strict Paleo WOE. We have always done low carb in the past with much success except that we always revert back to our bad habits and while he is eating what I am, he has lost zero pounds. We are considering doing a few days of VLC Paleo to see if it jump starts his weight loss and any thoughts or suggestions on this would be very much appreciated!

TIA!

He may not lose right away. His body is going through a healing phase.

Healing first, weight loss as an added benefit.

How does he feel? How is his sleep? Anxiety, etc?

These are the things you want to gauge first and foremost.

Really good points LeanLioness! Sleep is good because they gave him Valium. Anxiety is getting better each day. He fluxuates anywhere from exhausted to energetic but is always dizzy as one of the side effects of the stroke. His blood pressure runs around 110/70 now so that's good. We started today with a VLC few days and we'll see what happens. Otherwise I think you are right in that we just need to relax, let him heal and see what happens.

I agree - with me the weight loss hasn't been in the "astounding" column (I'm still waiting for that) but the improvements in other areas of health have been. My skin is much clearer (battled acne for my whole life - and my whole life is into my late 40's now); my digestion is much better (no more antacids every day); my constant hunger is gone and I'm sleeping better. Those are all great things - and I'm patiently carrying on until the weight loss starts in earnest...

I keep reminding myself that the fat is a symptom of the problem. So the problems must be fixed before all the symptoms start going away. I'm an impatient person so sometimes this is hard.

Sooz, I hope you husband is recovering very well.

I've been VLC Lacto-Paleo for just over two years. My health has improved greatly.

I think VLC is anything under 20g of carbs daily.

So a way of staying in ketosis. That is a healthy way to do it from what I've read on jimmy moore's site
