I agree that the difference is mainly the dairy - I consider myself paleo but I still use cream in my coffee, eat some cheese and use some greek yogurt. So some would consider me more primal - it's all about what you can tolerate. If you don't have issues with dairy you can eat it in modertion (full fat only though) - it won't raise your glucose levels and does not contain glutens (except some dairy - e.g, cottage cheese and some bleu cheese - watch the ingredients on those).
I agree with cutting it out at first -you won't know if you have issues with dairy if you never try going "dairy-free" for awhile. If you feel better without it, it might mean your system is intolerant to dairy and you never actually knew it. That's pretty common.
