Why Choose Paleo/Primal?
I'm sure everyone has their own reasons. But I am curious as to why you chose to eat this way? Here's why I chose it:
*I do better grain free - since going grain free I no longer need allergy meds * I have a Gluten intollerance so what better way to be Gluten Free :-) *I ENJOY eating locally and organically - yes a little more expensive but can be done very reasonable. *I LOVE the fact NO GYM MEMBERSHIP! I can do sprints or lift rocks etc lol *No Dairy means no exuse me phlem - now don't get me wrong I do eat it on occasion which is why my woe says Modified *I am not a big meat eater, but when I do eat it - it's in small portions. YES I LOVE BACON - but I want bacon free of Nitrates - and it's hard to find so I eat it very little. * oh and I get to say I am eating Paleo - not Dieting Paleo - which just sounds weird anyway OK so that's a few reasons for me what about you?

Yah, Primal just sounds cooler. lol
Health. And it's important to me to eat like my ancestors. For that reason, I eat more dairy than some stricter folks might. |

I'm switching from regular "low carb" to Paleo. I'm bored with the usual stuff I eat and I want to see how ditching dairy for a while affects me.

Because when you eat real food that doesn't have hormones and pesticides, your body gets everything it needs to build your hormones and turn you into a healthy person.

Real food
I love primal/Paleo because I have less joint pain, less phelm, not as hungry.
I train for 1/2 marathon power walking which has changed my life! I also do the occasional IF (intermittent fasting) , and I do mean occasional, this has enabled me to keep my weight in check. I have way less cravings! Yes I am new from Canada. |

UPDATE: switching to Paleo triggered a binge. Now I'm going back to VLC. I am not ready to eat sweet things again - like fruit and sweet potatoes. This is my own mental hangup - I have a friend who is in peak health on the Paleo plan and I'm happy for anyone who finds their own thing. Paleo is not mine - not right now.
Cheers! |

Well, good luck to you Jillo, I'm so sorry that happened to you!
![]() I don't think one *must* eat fruit and sweet potatoes on paleo. I know they are not required on Primal Blueprint. Though I do enjoy berries from time to time, I don't eat fruit, and I just sampled my first sweet potato fry last weekend. |

I read the Paleo Diet by Loren Cordain and it totally opened my eyes to how much stuff is in the foods we eat. Preservatives, nitrates, chemicals. I am a cancer survivor. I don't care to have cancer twice. I decided to go primal because its the way we were intended to eat. Fruits and veggies are full of vitamins and antioxidants. Also I'm hypoglycemic (a result of my bout with cancer) and low-carb works best for me keeping my sugars level. When I do eat dairy or grains I get an upset tummy and I never realized what was causing it until I stopped eating it.

Quite frankly, I do it because it just makes so much sense in theory and in practice. Empirically, I lost 75lbs doing this and have kept it off and I feel great. On the other hand I also feel much more connected with the earth. I am filling the place my species carved out and feel darned good about it!

Other than the elimination of dairy what is the major difference in this way of eating and Atkins. Also, where do you find meats etc without the added chemicals?

I've had good luck finding grass fed and hormone free meats at my local farmers market. It's more expensive but very worth it in the long run.
