JANUARY 2012 paleo/primal challenge

Ok so tomorrow I'm going to be on a strict 30 day paleo challenge. I also want to try to start exercising... Who's in?

betty301 12-31-2011 06:01 AM

A lot of us responded to the other thread you started, lol..

which one shall we use?

I'm in!!

dasiey 12-31-2011 07:48 AM

ok I,m in to.
I need to get my book out.
I have primal blue print and a paleo book. I'm not sure
which one.

Maryo 12-31-2011 11:52 PM

I'm in. I went shopping today in preparation - got lots of fresh and frozen veggies, some fruit and nuts, omega 3 eggs and plenty of fish and lean meat. I also made homemade mayo tonight. I'm going to miss my artificial sweetener and my Greek yogurt, but I'm looking forward to trying this.

betty301 01-01-2012 06:08 AM

Happy New year to all and Happy first day of going Primal!!

dasiey 01-01-2012 06:23 AM

Lets get started...

kellydawne 01-01-2012 08:29 AM

Can I join you all here. I'm doing my first whole 30 starting today. I lost to my goal weight using Atkins several years ago & maintained it for several years. My diet has gotten sloppy over the last several years & I've been maintaining a higher weight for the last 6 years. I like to cook & love good food. I'm optimistic that I can do this to clean up my diet & feel better again.

girondet 01-01-2012 03:47 PM

I'm in...paleo is going to get me there in 2012:jumpjoy:

dasiey 01-01-2012 04:44 PM

can we also post are menus for the day. I need ideas.
I have been reading but i feel lost.
I think I am primal.

B bacon and eggs and coffee with almond milk unsweetened
L almonds and a apple
d shrimp, cabbage, mushrooms, onions cooked in olive oil and a tad bit of bacon grease for flavor pepper

and lots of water. with a little lime juice

what do you all think?

kellydawne 01-01-2012 06:39 PM

My menus for today:

B-just black coffee, we slept later than normal
L-lettuce salad w/ olive oil, sauteed spinach (garlic & olive oil I think, we went out for lunch) and grilled shrimp/veggie kabobs
S-coffee w/ coconut milk
S- (just before dinner) smashed avacado w/ lime juice and sea salt
D- leftover "choc. chili" from the Well Fed cookbook (the clothesmakethegirl website) topped with cilantro

to drink throughout the day water and club soda w/ lime

betty301 01-02-2012 03:41 AM

Seems like you all are off to a good start!

I plan to read on Marks site for extra motivation and ideas. Yesterday didn't go so well.

I should have planned on starting TOday instead, so here I am!

girondet 01-02-2012 05:50 AM

I'm never perfect lol but keep trying to get closer with paleo. Just bought Loren cordain's latest book, Paleo Answer. I listen to Robb wolf's podcasts, and keep checking all the paleo sites for new ideas and to stay motivated.

So....I'm trying to stop grazing...I pick at nuts and chocolate, esp the coconut bark I make, all day. Otherwise I'm ok. I eat meat, fish, veggies, a little fruit and starchy tubers like sweet potato, eggs, nuts. I try to get organic and grass fed as much as possible.

Ok, maybe no chocolate for 30 days and keep my carbs under 50g a day. Sorry for the ramble.....:dunno::stars::dunno:...trying to figure out my approach....lol....

dasiey 01-02-2012 06:08 AM

Ramble on it helps me. I also do juddd so today is dd. Just gonna drink black coffee and water until this evening.

QueenBacon 01-02-2012 09:04 AM

Ok my starting weight is 163 whoa! I ned to detox myself from the holidays

dasiey 01-02-2012 10:38 AM

My sw is 152

girondet 01-02-2012 11:22 AM

My sw is 135.8. It's up a bit from the holidays, but not that much. :)
I'm so ready to bump it down.:jumpjoy:

kellydawne 01-02-2012 02:52 PM

My starting weight is 136 as of Saturday. I did measurements too & saved them in ******. I know I will have a hard time staying off the scale for a month, but I'm going to try. My jeans are tight after the holidays so at the very least it would be nice for them to fit again. My main goal is to regain control of my diet instead of the little of this or that won't hurt mindset I've had for a while now. I have almost 2 weeks of dinners planned (Mon-Fri only) at this point & I think that will help as much as anything.
I also gave my kids & DH permission to criticize if I stray from my diet plan so that should help.

I think the hardest thing for me will be giving up the cream in my coffee & the occasional adult beverage.

betty301 01-03-2012 04:46 AM

pretty good first day yesterday!!

It's good to 'get back to basics.'

Food yesterday:

coffee

big bowl of baby carrots

chicken
spinach+butternut squash(not sure about the squash! but it was delicious)

coconut+dark chocolate

need to limit 'indulgences,' to the weekends maybe.

dasiey 01-03-2012 06:25 AM

How do you make coconut dark choc.

kellydawne 01-03-2012 06:48 AM

I joined a biggest loser competition at work yesterday. It goes by weight loss %.
I was at 166.4 with my clothes on. It's 50 to enter, 12 ppl joined and my job is matching the pot, so itis a nice amount of money. Now I need to start working out!

QueenBacon 01-04-2012 03:30 AM

Oops I was 164.4

betty301 01-04-2012 06:14 AM

lol, Daisey!

I ate a handful of shredded coconut and square of dark chocolate:)

yesterday wasn't so great...but it's just one blip. It was an exciting day in our household and there were cupcakes involved:p:o

girondet 01-04-2012 06:19 AM

Good luck on winning that pot, Kerry. That's a nice incentive.:)

jennmc31 01-04-2012 07:31 AM

I love the book/cookbook "Everyday Paleo" by Sarah Fragoso. I enjoy the ideas I get from the different recipes and all are easy.

kellydawne 01-04-2012 08:32 AM

I woke up feeling yucky this morning. I'm thinking that along with being super hungry yesterday probably means my body is getting rid of all the yucky stuff I ate over the holidays. (Yeah!)

Kerry, good luck on the competition at work!

I like the Everyday Paleo website too. The other sites I've pulled recipes from are "clean eats in the zoo" and "the clothes make the girl"
On the clean eats blog she posts her menus for the week which seems very helpful to get ideas.

dasiey 01-04-2012 02:11 PM

good luck kerry...

QueenBacon 01-04-2012 05:06 PM

Ty everyone I'm going to need it!
