Betty-
Hang in there. Mark the days on the calendar and cross them off every day or give yourself a gold star or whatever it takes to get your head in the right place. Once you feel better and have good habits in place it will be easier to stay on track than it is to get started.

robre020-
I eat the same things over and over. Sometimes its easier and I LOVE it when I have leftovers, although that doesn't happen very often unless I do a major cookup trying to plan for extra. (still doesn't mean I'll have leftovers, but its more likely)

Morning-
I overdid on nuts/fruit yesterday. Not sure why, but I was really really hungry between lunch and dinner. I tend to want to have an "after school snack" with the kids every day. (this has been since they have been old enough to have an "after school snack" so YEARS!) so maybe I need to plan something for this time of day.

yesterday-
B-coffee w/ coconut cream & cinnamon, open faced southwestern omelette (no cheese of course)
L-leftover meatballs, salad
S-(this was over the course of several hours, I kept going back for more)
HB egg, herbal tea, almond butter, blueberries w/ coconut cream, 2 clementines, handful of almonds
D-almond crusted tilipia, sauteed kale, herbal tea

I'm still here, still trying.

I can go mostly primal..good enough for now.

I think if I have planned/scheduled splurges I would feel better. Like go 7-10 days and then have a free meal.

Betty, I think its important to find what works for you. However, with that said, it takes me about 1/2 weeks of eating right for cravings to go away. (regardless of the plan I'm following) A free meal may make it harder, not easier.

Robre, I'm with Kerry, can you share your muffin recipe, pls/thx!

I bought myself a few cans of pumpkins, and I already have flax meal, coconut flour, and almond flour. And there are always bananas ready to turn brown on top of the fridge.
I guess I'll have to experement with making some paleo breakfast muffins...

Kerry, let us know how your muffins turn out. I used to make lc pumpkin muffins, but they had a lot of AS sweetener in them.

Betty, how's it going?

I'm still not doing it perfectly, but closer than ever....no wine or other alcohol this time....

I have made muffins using almond flour or combination of flaxseed meal/almond flour and used banana and/or applesauce and cinnamon to sweeten...not real sweet but good....also squash, pumpkin....not quite as good though....but I think sweet potato would work well.....these "flours" are very accommodating about adding ingredients and still working out well

Fell off the wagon hard.
It's been so crazy with this new puppy and the hubby being laid up from surgery..excuses? maybe..

someone pull me back onto the wagon..quick!! lol

I stepped on the scale and it's not good. 9lb gain in a month???

Geez, I know some of that has to be water(my pants still fit for the most part) but it just solidifies the fact of how easily my body gains and it sneaks up on me too.

I need to put an end to it. I will recommit starting TODAY.

So sorry, Betty, here's a hand....stress is my downfall too.
I don't feel as much anxiety when I eat lower carb though,
Thank goodness.

It's pretty much all water and will be off in no time....I have much
Experience in these things.....

Hope your hubby is in good shape soon. What kind of puppy?

Really enjoying reading here. Been doing Paleo/Primal over a year. Went to join and found out I'm already a member! What a great group with lots of good recipes and tips! I'm at goal weight but am constantly tweaking my eating. Started this way of eating when DD became resistant to wheat, gluten, sugar, and dairy. We BOTH feel better!

Thinking about joining y'all starting this week. I've been on Atkins induction for exactly two weeks today, but last week's weight loss was very slow. I think the dairy is doing me in. I'll admit that we've been eating more than we should on induction.

Several years ago, I quit dairy for two solid months. I lost weight and felt better than I ever have in my entire adult life. I had so much energy and clarity of mind. I think maybe I have some dairy allergies. Anyway, I'm trying to use those memories to motivate myself to try dumping the dairy for a couple of weeks, which I guess would put me in paleo territory. I need to stock up on delicious paleo recipes, however, especially for my extremely picky husband.

Welcome Seaofsand

Dairy stalls me. I finally started losing again after a two year stall, and I admit I kept eating more and more dairy so even picked up a few lbs.

It's not as hard as I thought it would be to give it up, at least after the first month or so

We only have about a week left on this month's challenge, but I'm continuing after that, hopefully permanently

Hey everyone! I thought I'd pop in to see how you January folks are doing. I should have joined at the beginning of the month, maybe I would be more successful. But I'm not giving up! My main issue is late night binge eating; if I can overcome that, I'll be on track.

I stay away from dairy for the most part, but don't beat myself up if I have something. I still sometimes use half and half in my coffee but have been switching to coconut milk. And I still use butter but am going to switch to organic grass-fed butter. I wish I could find coconut milk in a carton rather than a can. I've read that coconut milk leeches the BPA in cans because of its high fat content.

I think its eiter diamond or silk that has coconut milk in a carton.
Diamond has a almond/coconut milk in carton also pretty good.

I'm at day 28 of my whole 30...
I thought I would share, I "cheated" and got on the scale and measured this morning (supposed to wait 30 days, its day 28) I will continue doing what I have been after the 30 days, although I will have a glass or two of wine with DH when our "wine club wines" arrive for Feb. I lost in a couple of places I didn't expect any loss, over all I'm happy (and at the lowest weight I've seen in 6 years-go me!)

Starting/today
weight-136/128
neck-12/11.5
bicep-12/11
forearm-9/8.75
chest-35.5/34
waist-30/27.5
hips-39/36
thigh-19.5/19
calf-13/13

SeaofSand- welcome. I had followed an Atkins type diet for a long time. I knew I had too many processed foods in my diet AND I overdid dairy, but I was reluctant to jump in and drop those things from my diet. I don't think they bother me from a health standpoint, but obviously, they were stalling my weight loss. (I had maintained the same weight for 6 years)
There are some great recipe sites online. A couple of my favorites have been "the clothes make the girl" and "clean eats in the zoo"

Girondet, I will be a little less strict than I have been following whole 30, but definitely won't be adding the processed foods back in. The hardest part was the few days I was trying to not get a cold. I could feel the scratchiness in my throat. In the past, I would have dosed myself with something like airborne and made a hot toddy at night, but keeping the sweeteners of all kinds away, I stuck with home made chicken soup and hot water with fresh ground ginger and lemon juice and added some citrus fruit to each day. I never actually got sick (and one of my kids did) so I'm assuming it helped.

Maria, the hardest part is getting started. Good luck. Depending on which paleo plan you are following, some don't allow the coconut or almond mild from the carton because of the additives. I've been adding a little coconut milk (from the can) to my first cup of coffee in the morning and then sprinkling either nutmeg or cinnamon into it when I have more than one cup. It was the hardest part at first, but I actually like my coffee with just one of the spices now.

How is everyone else doing? Still hanging in there?

Good job, kellydawne! I'm impressed!

I didn't take measurements but am down 4 lbs this month so I'm happy. Goal seems achievable. I just have to stay on track and eat fewer nuts. My best chance of keeping weight off and feeling my best is with this way of eating.

Good job everyone. Tomorrow the last day of this challenge. I will continue as well but I am not gonna be as strict. Just thinking I'm really not sure what I want to do I still want to lose 9 more pounds.
