Anyone else still doing Primal/Paleo?
 
Hi I didn't see anything current for Primal or Paleo eating. Thought I'd post and see if anyone else is eating this way, so we can share info, menus, or recipes,etc?

Yep, still here.

This forum has never really had many interested in paleo and I think they go over to ***, etc.
Don't know why since it is the most active LC forum.

I eat Primal (and browse on ***) but that's mainly because while doing low carb, I gradually eliminated all grains, dairy, and sweeteners. The only 'switch' I made was to organic almond butter from my organic peanut butter.

But I tend to identify myself as simply 'low carb' because I don't necessarily eat this way because our 'ancestors' did--I eat this way because it's how I feel best.

I don't have any 'recipes' to share, since I focus on whole foods and cook very simply.

I don't buy into the whole evolution thing either, but we were sort of forced into eating this way when we found out one of our sons, who has had chronic health issues for a few years now, is sensitive to almost everything. We only eat whole, unprocessed foods, and have eliminated wheat,gluten,soy,eggs (I still enjoy eggs sometimes, but he can't) and dairy. I focus on whole foods too,but have found some great recipes to make it not-so-boring.
Every week I sit down and plan out our menu for the week, and then go shopping for it. We do so well during the week. Then sometimes on the weekend we go out to lunch after church, and I totally blow it. So, it's been really frustrating losing and gaining the same 5 pounds over and over again. This week I'm not going to do that :)
We are seeing major health benefits to eating this way. My son, who has been 100% on plan for 5 weeks now, since being diagnosed with all the food sensitivites, has had major improvement in digestion/gut function, and he has grown over 3/4" taller, now that his gut is healing and he's able to absorb the nutrients from his food. :) So, we have switched the whole family to this way of eating.

I'm here as well. I don't have recipes - as I tend to follow ones on everyday paleo. I have even gotten my hubby switched over.

Vicki- Wow! I don't know if I could cope without eggs--having eliminated all sorts of other things. And fortunately, I only have to feed myself. It must be a real challenge to feed a family with this WOE.

It's great that this is helping your son so much. Isn't it amazing how 'healing' it can be to find the right WOE?

It is more important to have variety if you're feeding a family.
There are a number of sites; Tribe of Five is family oriented and, of course, if you follow links from any of those sites, you find tons of recipe ideas.

I eat pretty simply and go through phases.
I love curries and eat some type pretty regularly.
I bought some fresh pork hocks so just simmer and season then, yum.
Chicken drums have become a fav for carrying.

I also enjoy vegies and broccoli stalks make the best faux tater salad, IMHO.

I started making EVOO mayo and add a large glug of good mustard (I love Jack Daniels Old #7).
I use it or salad dressings, lettuce roll ups, etc.

I LOVE caveman custard from son of grok. I think it can be too sweet if your bananas are large so I stick w the small ones and it is just subtle.
Custards of any sort are a nice addition.

For families coconut flour muffins and such are a nice addition.

I could've lived on dairy and didn't realize how much better I could feel until I joined a challenge.
Now I wonder what I was thinking.

I am not doing Paleo as a weight loss strategy but it is how I intend to eat at maintenance.....if I ever get there, lol. I know I will, I just have to be patient. But I love the idea of Paleo and actually make quite a few Paleo recipes already.

I never lost on paleo but felt great! I am doing hhcg which is very paleo. I do gluten DDR, dairy free, and the rare starch. Usually sweet potatoes.

I'm not on Paleo but I'm doing Eskimo which is very similar
high fat meat,egg,cheese, lots of fish til you reach goal weight
then roughage (LC) veggies for 2 weeks, the starch (carbs) but no more than 3x a week.

I am Primal right now and working toward a more Paleo approach. I want to get past that 80 - 85 percent and get to what is considered 100% Paleo.

Taking baby steps, but it is working.........

I'm Paleo... currently reading "The Primal Blueprint"... it seems high carb for me. Anybody have success with that many carbs? I currently eat around 20g of carbs daily...doesn't seem to bother me, and I'm still losing very slowly. What is the difference between the two diets? Thanks!! :)

I read on the Primal Blueprint website, but I haven't read Mark's book, but I don't see any reason you need to eat at the higher carb level. I think Mark advises <50g carbs for weight loss, and a lot of posters on his website eat 20-30g.

Primal recommends types of foods, not particular carb levels. Some of the elite athletes eat 100-200g of carbs and some women (like me) eat 20g.

The differences between Primal and Paleo are mainly in what they recommend, and I'm not sure of all the differences. If you check online, I'm sure you can find out easily enough.

Keep in mind that neither is a 'diet plan.' They don't dictate what you should eat; it's more a matter of what you should avoid--e.g., grains. For example, Primal 'allows' fruit, but many of us never eat fruit for carb reasons.

you can eat fruit on primal or paleo..

Depending on what paleo plan you read for ex robb wolf isn't fat afraid (he promotes eating fat) and Loren Cordain is more low fatish and has more restrictions then robb wolf.. loren says no to nightshades eat lean meat etc.. Loren says diet soda and arifical sweetners are ok in moderation.. Robb Wolf says no go for artifical sweetners, and that if you can tolerate nuts and nightshades to eat them.

Primal eat dairy and seem to be alot more leaniant on the diet, like its ok to cheat 80% of the time (IMO this is what makes me more paleo then primal, I'm not really into the cheating thing, my cheats are like considered my vitimins that may have some stuff in them)
I also believe primal doesn't promote heavy lifting and such when it comes to exercise, slow and steady win the race (think strolling for 3 hrs Vs running on the track for half hour) and it seems alot of paleo are more into weight lifting..

I'm sure you meant eat clean primal 80% (at least).
So if you follow that rule; 3 meals daily x 7 days =21 meals. 20% would be fourish cheat meals weekly.

Many peop feel that 20% is the worst case scenerio and strive for better. But at least you don't have to shoot yourself if you cheat because it falls into the 20%.

Primal is less strict since dairy is allowed. I'm sure more peop can stick w it because of that.

I am a person who could live on dairy yet is was not difficult to give it up. Problem is there's no real replacement since I am sensitive to nuts/coconut.....

It just really takes more thought in the beginning. But most lc'ers can jump in pretty easily since there's minimal withdrawl.

But fruit is allowed to your meter. It is not meant to be forbidden and may be the perfect replacement for a sweet when the urge strkes...better than donuts, for sure.
I'm sure that some would disagree.....

My way of eating is Clean Paleo.

I am lactose intolerant and whey protein is the only thing that I can consume without becoming sick and bloated. My trainer recommended (suggested heavily) I take this supplement for my weight training. Some people I have spoken with on Paleo eat almonds and walnuts??? Not all the time. Besides, it helps with certain inner plumbing issues.:laugh:

There is the whole yuck factor with yolks. (I have done Stillman's and the Egg Protein/Fat Fast too many times to count.)

Honestly, I am not big into eating red meat and consume it once a week.

Right now, I feel better than I have in weeks. More energy, more strength and the gains I am making at the gym are phenomenal!:kicking:

Duh...I realized later on you were talking about Chickpeas.:doh: Sorry! Yes..I should not eat those on Paleo. My plan isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination. It is a work in progress. And I really did not want to throw a whole container of hummus away just yet.:laugh:

Okay so I thew away the legumes, printed up the list of foods I can and cannot eat and to top it off had a Paleolithic dinner.

Mushrooms

Ah. So good to 'meet' others eating like me! :) I'm following the Paleo diet, but I'm also not eating nuts per a suggestion by Misty (Fawn) as I wasn't losing for over 3 months. I am finding that since I've been eating this way...mainly getting rid of the AS's....I feel better and my cravings are down. I big thumbs up to this WOE!!! :)

I'd guess I'm about 85% primal/paleo.
I do have my coffee and tea with ez-sweetz (1pk sweet n low with coffee, 2-3 drops ez-sweetz per day with the tea IF I have sweetener added at all).
I may eat 1-2oz cheese a week total.
No grains at all.
I do use coconut flour occasionally(maybe 1-2x a week)
Occasionally salad dressings if not just vinegar and evoo.
Bacon maybe 1-2x a month.
Sausage less than 2x a month.
Dairy: 2T half and half in my coffee per day; greek yogurt maybe 3x a month (1/2 cup or less).
Occasional coconut milk or almond breeze with a protein shake(maybe 1 a week).
Olives probably 5-10 a week (not sure where they fall in the whole paleo thinking)
Otherwise it's lean meats and fresh or frozen veggies. Sometimes with butter, mostly with evoo. Lots of spices.

I think that coconut flour is OK on primal--at least on Mark Sisson's site a lot of people use it.

They eat bacon, too, but I saw someone questioning that recently. I don't eat bacon, but that's mainly because I prefer breakfast meat with more protein and usually have tenderloin tips or bison burgers with eggs.

Have any of you read Dr. Jack Kruse's blog? He promotes Paleo eating, but based on brain science, recommends eating 50-75g of proteing FOR BREAKFAST if you are leptin resistant. Thoughts?

Based on my needs, I get about 93g of protein per day and it is preferred I stretch it over the course of the day. Per my calculations, I eat 37.24g for breakfast. I know I am doing eating well.

I actually found that if you eat 4 eggs for breakfast, it is the equivalent of roughly 50g of protein. It was a lot, but I'm definitely NOT hungry for lunch! LOL! Maybe that's the point, though... hmmm.....
