Paleo vs Atkins.
Is the only difference the carb count and dairy? Does the Paleo diet work as well as Atkins? It seems to me that you could still be in Ketosis on the Paleo?
|
On Paleo there is no dairy and no salt... you can also eat fruit & root vegetables (unlike Atkins)

I never heard the no salt thing. Even animals seek out salt. Is it because food these days contains so much of it? But if you are following the plan you wouldn't be eating processed stuff anyway. Hmmmm

Ive flirted with the idea of the paleo - but im a salt addict (amongst other things, sugar, etc ) so I couldnt cope without it..........why no salt I wonder?

Just no added salt.
I see Paleo as compatible with Atkins: I follow the Atkins idea of carb counting, but I eat no processed foods or artificial substances, which is the main idea of Paleo. As simple as that. :) |
I found this googling
(its aparently no added salt)
Salt What's the problem with adding salt to my food? As do hard cheeses, cereal grains, meats, and legumes, salt presents a net acid load to the kidneys in the absence of alkaline foods such as fruits and vegetables. The body responds by tapping its reserve of calcium salts in the bones, which can lead to osteoporosis and other degenerative diseases. As described in The Paleo Diet, cheeses, grains, and legumes are nutritionally problematic for other reasons as well. Eating lean, low-salt meat is fine when it's balanced with fruits and vegetables. Do your body a favor and put the salt shaker away. Also via googling I've found that the two main criticisms of the paleo WOE are there are no good sources of calcium or salt in it. |
