Good morning everyone!


Today marks one month since I started fasting for 2-3 times a week. It is not exactly going lightning fast with the losses, but I have not been perfect either. I think it has been fairly doable, especially since I don't feel deprived, I always CAN have what I want the day after a fast. Next three days will be feast days, I doubt I can do a fast over the Easter weekend will try my best though at eating reasonable. Then I will have until the 1st to undo the damage and hopefully still make my four pound goal for April. Next fast is planned for Tuesday, with a starting weight of 300


GOAL WEIGHT FOR APRIL: To lose 4 pounds would be nice!

APRIL 1 = 186.6 -- MAY 1 GOAL = 182.6


Going to post weight only after fast days this week (if I manage some)

Hi all, back for a bit hopefully to drop a few pounds

Goal is to get to 172 or lower overall and 177 by end of month.. Last year I started in Jan. at 214 and by May 15th made it to my goal of 175. Since then I got back up to 184. So started again with a strict diet and exercise plan which I'd gotten away from.

4/16, Wed. 184lb cal=?, 4/17, Thu 182.4lb, 4/18 cal=1226, Fri 181.4 cal=1459 net after 175 calorie burn on treadmill, 4/19, Sat 180.2

Thanks for keeping the list going Cagmom I recognize some names from last year, hope you're all doing well!

Just stopping by to wish everyone a Happy Easter! In the kitchen whipping up a few dishes to bring over to my daughter's house for brunch. Breakfast enchiladas, scalloped potatoes with ham, Watergate salad, cheese platter, chocolate dipped strawberries and bananas, and a fruit platter. I don't foresee any weight loss in the week coming up It's all good, I will enjoy this weekend to the fullest, even if the scale says I'm up 10 pounds on Tuesday, I KNOW I didn't eat an EXTRA 35000 calories, at least I hope not

Using scale, at start fat % was 25, muscle % was 33.8, visceral fat at 9, virtual age at 57. After 3 days fat % at 23.8, muscle % at 34.4, visceral fat at 9, virtual age at 56. Last year when I hit goal my best was fat % 18, muscle % 38, visceral fat 8, virtual age 53.

Hi Erika & Joanne don't eat too much for Easter, haha! I'm going to a family dinner with lots of types of foods so won't be able to calorie count with any sort of accuracy so will just try and limit portions, ugh..

Good afternoon everyone!

Against better judgment I did hop on the scale this morning just to see how BAD it is. Weighed in at a whopping 189.2 pounds! But I knew it would be bad, I ate what I wanted yesterday, no food was off limits, so I am loaded with sodium and sugar. Today it is back to counting calories but a high day so I can stick to my Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday fasts. Determined to STILL have a four pound loss in April!!!

Hi MommyGate glad to see you're sticking with it, keep it up!

I've come up with a new (at least new to me) 7 day diet that on the 7th day you're eating a normal amount of calories. You should lose about 2 to 3lbs per week with normal exercise. It only works if you're really good at calorie counting.

If you want to try it, here's how it works. For the first 3 days your total calories per day is 2/3rds of what your normal amount of calories are. For example, if your normal caloric intake is 1300 to maintain weight, multiply that by .67 for a total of 871 calories per day for the first 3 days. Add 75 calories the 4th day, 100 more calories the 5th day, 125 more calories the 6th day, and the 7th day eat as many calories as you're supposed to eat without dieting.

Here is The principal of the diet is that for the first 3 days your body will consume body fat to make up for the lost calories. Essentially it goes into "starvation mode" where any excess calories are immediately converted to body fat. Days 4, 5, and 6 allow the body to slowly come out of "starvation mode" so that it doesn't convert the extra calories to body fat so that by day 7 you're eating a normal amount.

After day 7 you could relax, eat your normal amount, and whenever you're ready you can repeat the cycle for another 2 to 3lb loss, or, you could immediately start the next 7 day cycle.

This is different than fasting a day or two without eating because doing that and then eating the normal amount of calories will result in the body converting about a 1/4th of the calories to body fat which negates the loss from fasting. By slowly adding the calories back over 3 days, as described above, the body comes out of starvation mode without converting calories to body fat.

Ideally you'll be using a food tracking application to see the percent of fat / protein / sugar / fiber / iron / potassium etc you're consuming so that during the first 3 days you can still get the required daily amount of each (which may require taking supplements).

Patrick...Your plan sounds a lot like The Rotation diet from DR Katahn, but I think his cycle goes for nine days and then start over. I am following 4:3 right now where you eat at maintenance level for 4 days and at 25 % of that for 3 days, the original plan was to do 5:2 but I am not trusting that process just yet, even though I follow another group with over 10000 members that are losing weight on this like crazy! I think this may be my maintenance plan once I get there (if that ever happens) But I got my hopes very high right now since this is the only thing in probably over a year that has finally make the numbers go down some, and if it wasn't for the holidays I would probably be down in the 170's by now, but that is the freedom of this plan, feast, then fast!

Erika...funny that you mention the Rotation Diet. I started messing around with the Rotation Diet last month...still following it.. but I've only had one really good week then things got in the way..but that's the week that I lost 4.8lbs..I love it and it really works if you stick with it I'm using this to lose my weight and then I will use 5:2 to maintain.

Erika, good you've found a plan that is working I hadn't heard of The Rotation Diet, looked it up and it is a 9 day plan where it's 3 days of very low calories and then it jumps up for another 3 days, and the last 3 days jumps up even more. Based on my own results, adding the calories too quickly result in the body converting the extra calories to body fat, hence a 3 day period to get back to maintenance levels.

Hey Joanne that's great! I'll be a very interested to see how it works out for you! If I'm recalling right from last year you worked out too which is pretty much needed to prevent muscle loss as the body consumes muscle over fat. I like Natalie Jill's approach, which is high intensity for short periods (no long runs for her). She has some 10 minute exercise plans that just use body weight. Pretty much most everyone should be able to fit in 10 minutes of exercise. Do you use a calorie counting app as they're an excellent tool to ensure you're getting the right combination of fat/protein/sugar/iron/potassium/cholesterol/sodium.

Food tip is to maximize ounces of food based on nutritional content. For instance, two slices of Daves Killer Bread has 240 calories in it, the exact same calories is in a Healthy Choice Oven Roasted Chicken which has more protein, fat, potassium. The bread weighs 2.9oz and the chicken meal weighs 11 oz. so getting 8oz more food for same calories to help make the belly feel full. 6oz or Light & Fit yogurt has 80 cal. versus 150 cal for Fit & Fruity or 180 for TIllamook Lowfat yogurt. Granted you do get slightly more protein, i.e 5,6, and 7g respectively but you could eat 2 of the Light & Fit for 12oz total and 10g of protein and still be at 160 calories. As a reminder, this isn't permanent, after reaching goal can go back to eating the higher calorie foods.

I'm the one doing the Rotation Diet and it's a 21 day plan with a week off ( you can't pig out of course) then you start another rotation if needed it's a great plan and I'm never hungry.

Autumn...Great job! I tried the rotation diet last year some time but failed miserably. Of course last year was bad for me for ANY diet because my body was so out of whack. I was almost tempted to give it another try week after TOM, but pulled myself together. Got to stick to one thing long enough to if it's working for me.


Patrick...Yes it's Autumn doing the rotation diet, I can not eat low calories for days at a time, and 1200 is low for me, imagine how I feel about 600...I am doing the fast diet, I eat 1800-2500 calories for 4 days a week and between 500 and 600 on 3 days. It is way easier for me to have one day at very low calorie and then the next I can eat what I want. And it seems to work, started on March 23 at 189.2 and came down as low as 181.6 (before my 4 day Easter pig out) and dropped a pant size! I only want to lose about 15 pounds, so a loss of 0.5 - 1 pounds a week is the right rate for me, slow, so my body can't catch on and go haywire again. So I will keep trucking for a while longer!
