Any Wheat belly's out there?
Started wheat free three weeks ago in an attempt to control Fibromyagia. So pleased with results, pain free and losing weight. Gotta love it. anyone else doing this WOE?

Well, no more than just that I'm low carb and eat no grains and no sugar.

Between this and Grain Brain (and the question about its link to Alzheimer's especially), I am convinced about its effects on autoimmune diseases and inflammation in the body.

I am really wanting to try this recipe:


4 C almond meal/flour
1 C ground golden flaxseeds
¼ C coconut flour
2 tsp. Baking soda


1/2 cup all-purpose baking mix
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
Sweetener equivalent to 1 tbsp sugar
Pinch of sea salt
1 egg
2 tbsp milk
1 tbsp butter, melted
1/4 cup frozen or fresh mixed berries

In a medium bowl, combine the baking mix, cinnamon, sweetener, and salt. Whisk in the egg. Add the milk, butter, and berries and whisk thoroughly. Use a rubber spatula to scrape the mixture into a large mug or a 10-ounce ramekin.

Microwave on high power for 2 minutes, or until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean. (If using fresh berries, microwave for 1 1/2 minutes.) Allow to cool for 5 minutes.

I did make the flax wraps, did care for them at all!I love Spaghetti squash and use it alot. My favorite way is with a vegetable alfredo sauce. I haven't read Grain Brain yet but am sure I will. Love to cruise looking for recipes but do best when I keep it simple.

Love his recipe book. I made the grainless granola but added a bit of raisins. I eat it with almond milk. It is delish!

I love Dr. Davis and have been following him for years. He is a gem:)

Another goody is the almond meal pancakes. I make those and freeze them. I actually made them without eggs and loved them! Duh me. hahaha

I have toyed on and off with wheat belly since reading the book 4 years ago.

I don't. My husband is a hunter so we eat a lot of ground venison and I will buy hamburger at the store too. I cant afford to do grass fed right now, but I am not going to let that stop me. I try to buy as best I can, but if I cant I just cant ya know :hugs:

I made his banana blueberry muffins a few days ago. they were delicious! Used 1 banana, 1c blberries, and stevia and only came out to 2g net carbs per muffins (not counting the almond & flax meals). So i can eat 2 at once and stay under my 5g a meal limit. YAY
Im looking for pancakes recipes that are good and other quick bread things...muffins and "cakes" (i dont bake quick breads in a loaf pan as they do not get done in the middle, nut flours would NEVER get done lol)
I have to say that eliminating grains is tough as i love steelcut oats but they seemed to make me sick after not having grains at all rly for 4 wks. :( so im going grainless, but will try oats again in a few wks, 1/2c at a time, yes and i eat them with cream, yes. i want to be able to eat barley too but that has gluten so thats prob even worse Damn. But i will try it, i rly dont think i am gluten sensitive at all. my metab is just *shot*. ive been lowcarbing for some time but not going grain or even wheatless. enjoying my days grainfree pretty much but the thot of my kids doing it....yikes. they need carbs or theyre starving, theyre very thin and muscular/active kids. while they could just eat starchy vegs and fruit, nothing fills them like grains lol. they eat steelcut oats 5-6 days a week :0

Does anyone still visit this page? I found a fantastic website for low carb recipes that are mostly grain free. It is called "All Day I Dream About Food". I have tried her recipes for muffins, scones, coconut flour pancakes! She is a genius!

I am not following wht belly per se, but i am eliminating wheat 99% of the time and all grains really, as part of low carbing.
2mrw im intro-ing steelcut oats again since 3 wks ago when i tried and it didnt work. i use cream with it and only have 1/2c at a time. we'll see.
im going to look at that website u suggested too.

I have been wheat free for 12 days now and I am down 7lbs :kicking:

However, all my weight is in my belly and I still look like I am about to give birth :( Just wondering what I should do to help things along.....

the wheat is just the 1st thing. its the carbs in general. the goal being getting ur carbs from veggies, nuts, seeds, dairy & limited low glycemic fruit only. cut all grains, starchy vegs, ANY sugar or junk food or pop.
ive been eating 9c a DAY of veggies. incredible. got my wgt to move. (i lose .5 a week ON A GOOD WEEK) its been 2 wks im doing it and im hooked. amazing.
metabolism miracle by diane kress is a good starting point for getting very lowcarb. just ignore the eating grains (optional anyway) and the lowfat crap she espouses. eat FAT. its satisfying, hunger squashing and Good For You :)

As I am slowly coming off carbs, I realize that veg is what we are supposed to eat to fill the ___________________________ . (hunger or whatever reason I feel compelled to eat)

coming off carbs is hard once u get off straight sugar crap and chips and the like. then u have to get ur good carbs down. u'll crave those too, esp fruit. but eatin the vegs while u are, will help alot. get rid of most starchy vegs and stick to fibrous ones, and little to no fruit. it'll happen. as u heal, u'll get rid of the fat. but to do it, u need to REGAIN ur *health* before u can lose wgt, well except some water wgt. it'll take TIME, several months even. just keep on trucking along, getting better at ur daily diet, and it WILL happen.

My dh is going wheat free, so I picked up the book and 2 cookbooks this weekend. Dh is fit and works out a lot, has been low carb for years, but his waist size has increased. It will be interesting to see if going grain free will take care of that:)

Hey guys! I'm on day 10 of low carb/gluten elimination after reading "Wheat Belly." My first goal is just to feel better, and so far so good! Stomach problems vanished within a few days of eliminating about 95% of glutens and joint pain is improved as well. Food cravings and energy level is much improved as well. I'm hoping feeling better will help me be able to re-focus on weight loss and lose the food addiction as well. Down 4 pounds so far and excited about moving forward!

wow that is great! i take about 6 wks to lose 4 lbs lol
so ten days to lose it is wonderful!
im do no grains at all but oats 2x a week, sometimes none even
im actually finding now i dont want grains...took about 4 wks tho
im going to try no beans either i think, im still dragging too many afternoons
i have huge adrenal issues but i think the legumes are affecting that too, not just the grains.
dairy will be last to go. i only do fermented dairy anyway. i cant give up calcium!!
i want to lose wgt sooo bad tho, im at the point where i just keep cutting things out
with 50lbs more to lose (at LEAST 30 to think about stopping) i shoud be losing wgt a helluva lot easier than 1/2 lb a wk, many wks nothing.

It can get so frustrating when weight loss is slow. How long have you been at it? Is your thyroid in good shape?

I'm thrilled with the weight loss, which is now 6 pounds on day 13, but you know how it goes at first, water weight will come off at first, and it seems that the more overweight you are, the more you may lose early on.

You hang in there!

no my thyroid system is wacked...my t4 does not convert to t3 and my rt3 is too high
and no my adrenals are almost shot
so thats part of it

well the thyroid stuff is due to the adrenals so its VERY VERY difficult. stabilizing my adrenals and getting them what they need is even harder to get a dr to do than thyroid.
so while i eat excellently i dont make (ATP) and thus i am fat, freezing and funky.

I have PCOS and I'm a good 100 pounds overweight, so I decided to go low(er) carbs, gluten-free, and clean eating. I started that 13 days ago, and lost 11 pounds. I made the awful mistake of going off plan for Mother's Day; I didn't go crazy and gorge myself, but I did have a carby/gluteny breakfast and dinner. I immediately went back on plan yesterday. I weighed myself just now, expecting a couple of pounds in water weight....I GAINED 1O POUNDS BACK. I am absolutely devastated. I'm sure it's all water weight, but to gain that much in a 12 hour period? Granted my TOM is coming up soon, so I'm sure that's not helping matters. I'm never going off plan again, geez.

yep kisha--it just AINT worth it
i had a candy bar last nite and was up all nite with bladder infection symptoms
i have not had sugar in a few months and it was WAAAAY too much for my system
i had NO idea how SICK sugar made me!!!
i almost went to get checked for UTI but it finally resolved about 12 hrs after it started.

It was insane! In the past, I've had major carb/sugar binges for a week straight (thank God I was able to work on that), and I would gain no more than like 3 pounds. But 10 in under 24 hours? That blows my mind. Never again.
