Stats: 6/1/14: lost 48 lbs since thanksgiving 2013
WOE: almost zero carbs, eat 2 meals per day 900 cal/day
Start Date: 11/30/13 day aft thankgiving
is low cal ok on IF or does it need to be highe calories

I have been on very low carb (10g max) for 8 months, already lost over 50 pounds, have another 50 to go.

I never knew about IF but in the beginning I was eating only one meal per day (3egg cheese omlet with ham, sausage and bacon, decaf coffee with a couple gram carbs of h&h) and in those days I lost my weight the quickest.

Today I am back to eating 2 (sometimes 3) meals per day with some snacks in between. Still on low cal and very low carb but I am not losing the weight as fast as I did eating one meal per day. (I also found when I ate a snack at night, even if it's a few almonds and a string cheese, it would slow me down - my stomach wouldn't feel that it lost as much weight the next morning).

I am going to start IF again but here is my question. Can I continue to eat about 850 calories per day in my one meal, or does IF work best if I eat untill I'm full during my eating window by eating more calories then shutting them off for the fast?

I would love to go back to eating low calorie once per day. I know people will say "well if it worked for you just do it" but I wana do what the correct science behind the diet says will help me lose weight the fastest.

Thanks!!!

Hi Eliza!!!

I'm interested after listening to Ray Cronise on Endurance Planet (podcast). I have read his blog on and off.

I am eating once per day at dinner. This is day two; it is really easy.

I wish I could say I was doing a "water fast" the rest of the day, but it is really a coffee fast, LOL. When I get hungry, I just have some coffee and I forget hunger completely. I feel really good going for a walk at lunch instead of eating. No cream or anything in the coffee (I used to use MCT oil in coffee).

I've been feeling achy and stiff all over for months (and scared about what that was all about), but I am feeling better in just this couple of days. It is very interesting! I think this is very healing.

Out of curiosity, I tracked calories today just to see what I naturally did. Just 1000 calories and I lost interest in eating. This is really great, I hope this works out.

I tried doing this when I was much heavier but could not do it. It is interesting how I keep changing over time.

WOE: JUDDD let me lose 30 pounds and keep it off
Start Date: Seems like forever - restart June '11
There was an interesting link posted about one man's success with one meal a day. It is called 1MADdiet for one meal a day. He drank tea with sugar during the day and then his one meal. He ate a small lunch with the family on Saturdays and Sundays. If you google it you can read about his successes.

We have been trying this for the past several weeks. Hubby is down several pounds and I have lost a bit, too. We leave for a 3 week trip to Europe in 5 weeks. Food and wine will be a major part of the adventure, so we are trying to stick to this WOE until then.

I usually need a little something around 2 or 3, but he can go forever without eating! I still try to stay in an 8 hour window if I eat something else. I also have followed JUDDD for about 3 years now and like to cycle my calories. I do it for the health benefits. It all seems to work for me.

I really like fasting. I think there are soooo many benefits to overall health. Weight loss is one but nice skin, less stress about food, mindful eating and a cleansing process as well. I hope everyone has a nice day.

Question for IF and one meal a day.. Does it matter what time? And do you only drink water all day
?

Thanks . I seem to struggle with breaking my fast on lunch but typically it's justa piece off fish or chicken. Looking for a pls that fits for me. I really dcdluv one meal a day for portion control. Now I need to find other things to think about other than lunch!

Hi

I was on my phone, so I am not even sure how you could understand that last quote.lol

Thanks! I am going to stick to eating twice a day right now. I seem to still feel better with something during the day and then again protein for dinner. I guess if I am still losing and/or maintaining, that is ok for me. I also think my blood sugar feels better when I dont not eat all day..

Appreciate your reply Hope you are doing well.

Thanks!!

Would like to join this thread...
This week I am going to follow an every other day
<400 cal diet day 1
low carb on day 2
Always stopping eating at 6:30pm...
I started this last year and was successful.

I have to control of my eating and this seems the best way for me.
Also have done some research on fasting and its health benefits.

I do much better NOT eating all day rather than eating little bits all day. It triggers binging. I would rather sit down to one nice meal a day with dessert and be done with it.

I agree with you Oriana, there's a new book out by Krista Varady that talks about the IF way of dieting. I actually do something close to JUDD but also do low carb. It just works for me.

She also said that the hunger is less and less as you go along. I was hungry today, but also read that drinking hot water helps and have yet to try that. I forgot the hot water today when I was hungry I just chewed SF gum. I do not eat until 5pm on my IF day, but have had a pickle at 4-4:15pm to curb the hunger and it works for me...

Alternate Day Fasting (Ann Ryan)

For 15 months I followed the Warrior Diet, though I didn't do HIIT or anything outside my norm. (Now I find out that playing violin burns 9 cal/minute, so until I'm ready to buy kettlebells, I'm sticking with that since I usually play several hours a day.) On Warrior, which was called an IF but which allows a piece of fruit for breakfast (suggests an orange which was what I went with), 2 boiled eggs and a salad for lunch, and whatever you want for dinner. Not enough restrictions for this girl, I'm afraid

Around the 1st of June I decided to tighten up my IF and go to a true 16:8, while reading dozens of IF books on Kindle. I ran across the 3 by Ann Ryan, and I'm hooked, and happy, with the alternate day fast (ADF). Dinner every night; lunch every other day; total carbs under 30g; and one night a week "insulin spike," (OMG my favorite time of the week!) Almost every book I read described this carb "binge" in one way or another; apparently without it you'll hit some really bad plateaus on the way down.

I remembered after I started it how much I LOVE fasting! I did some long fasts in my 20's and even in high school I would skip breakfast, eat an apple for lunch, and dinner with the family and lost weight like a champ. This time, I've lost 12 lbs and possibly more; Thurs before I weighed on Fri morning, I had a dinner with lots of salty prosciutto, so I could have been retaining water.

I've been around LCF for several years, on and off. I think I'm back.

JJFiddle - thanks for the book reference, am going to read it.
I have lost on LC but am interested in IF.

I feel pretty good when I am in the middle of a IF day except for when I am really hungry which was Tuesday this week but was able to drink tea and chew gum to overcome. I like to hear of others successes, what worked for them.

I would love to have a night off too!

Pretty good UD, mostly bored at work so I then tend to eat more but didn't do too bad just some pepperoni and diet soda when I had the munchies...
