Eating the one time a day has clearly worked for you! So you only ate every day for a year between 4-5? I can see where that would work! Basically you drank coffee for breakfast and ate supper?

Most people will tell you that if you use HWC in your coffee, it doesn't break the fast as it is fat.

Dr. Mercola has some great articles on IE, if you are interested. There are a lot of health benefits to IE.

JustJo also eats almost zero carbs in the one meal she eats daily. She is one of the stars of Atkins 72.

So JustJo only got carbs, during her weight loss, from the coffee she ate everyday!!

She is in maintenance with a meal of about 1400 calories and 12-14 carbs - not net carbs, real carbs. She has lost an astounding amount of weight following the '72 plan.

I don't use HWC in my coffee (cause of the kcals) I use Silk Almond/Coconut milk unsweetened (it's not a dairy product) at 45 kcals and 1 carb per cup. I love "café au lait" or in this case "café au lait d'amande et de noix de coco".

I'm still only eating 1 time a day. I have portion control issues and I love to feel "full" when I eat. When I started again this time around, I tried eating several times a day, but it made me hungry ALL day long and I still wanted to be "full" so I decided on one meal a day. At first I started at 800 kcals and 6 carbs, did that for 6 months. Then started slowly upping my carbs and kcals. I never do 14 carbs a day. It's more like 10-12 tops. My kcals fluctuate as well. A high kcal day is 1400-1500 and a low can be 900-1000.

So short answer to your questions would be YES -- drank my breakfast and ate my supper... sorry for the essay!!

I love A '72 it works every single time I have done it. First time 1978 and over the years I have lost and gained 100s of lbs following it religiously. Never did the most important part -- maintenance because I thought I was a carb eater like everybody else. It took me until this time to realize the truth that I am a recovering morbidly obese carb-addict and I don't ever want Fat Jo (my self-destructive alter ego) back in my life.

WOE: IF
Newbie

Just started intermittent fasting yesterday. I have not been seeing good weight loss with low carb lately. I think it is a combo of slow metabolism and too many calories! I already like IF and I am hearing that it can do amazing things for your health. I am planning to stay lower carb and eat in an 8 hour window of 11 to 7 each day.

Day 1: -3.5 pounds

I am doing well with my 8 hour window. I was real happy with todays weigh-in. I have been reading about the IF online. Seems mostly body builders are commenting. I am doing this for weight loss. Does this work long term?

Well, I'm no where near being a pro -- but the benefits to me is that it helps me with my portion control issues and like some one said earlier -- "I'm not hungry until I put food in my mouth" is a fact in my life. But I don't do a "window", I just eat 1x a day... been doing it since 5 July 2013. The other factor that has made me morbidly obese my entire life is that I don't have that "switch" that says, stop you're full... so eating only one meal a day after 4pm... I am full. I guess we do whatever it takes to make this LC & IF WOE work for us...

Wishing all of us continued success on our LC & IF WOE journeys!!

Thanks Just Jo! That makes sense. I have that too! After my first meal I am hungrier than if I didn't eat. Today my weigh in was up. I am not letting that discourage me! I am going to focus on your fabulous results and stick with this IF. I already feel better and only had one night when I was really hungry.

trying the one meal a day

hi everyone today is my first day at one meal a day. had fathers day lunch and I ate 3 pieces of pizza, salad, and a piece of cake. so far so good but I just drank some diet dr pepper and that makes me think im hungry. im going to push through. if I really get hungry I will have a string cheese or decaf coffee with cream. I am really looking forward to this woe. I love sweets and I can have some this way and on low carb it was cheating. so I love to read the posts so please keep them coming. will be in touch soon.

I am starting to prefer my fasting hours to the eating window. Eating is complicated to me. Fasting seems really freeing. When I am fasting don't have to worry about carbs or calories.

8 Hour Diet

Isn't that the truth!!!!!! Although I can't say that I don't enjoy eating after the 16 hour fast. I find that because I kind of know I can eat what I want, I don't go crazy at all!! Very freeing! I LOVE not counting ANYTHING

this is day two. I was 173.6 this morn. not sure what I was yesterday. I ate my meal at noon and now it is 7pm and ate a piece of cheese but that will be it for tonight. for lunch was three pieces of pizza left over from fathers day and a med. frosty from wendys. sure was good. hope it wasn't too much. I work on me feet all day so I burn up a few calories. I like this so far, like you said it is freeing to eat what you like and not really count anything. hope all of you are doing well.

Happy with 8 Hour Diet

I go back and read 10 or 20 pages of the 8 Hour Diet book every morning! My clothes are getting looser and it is almost time to check my weight on the scale. (I promised myself I wouldn't get on the scale for 4 weeks)!! If this works, I don't care if only lose 1 pound a week. This is the BEST "diet" I have ever been on.....the BEST! I am "eating" between 12 noon and around 7 p.m. and I am having no problem with this at all. Nothing to think about. Nothing to count!!
Feeling free to eat a normal dinner with my husband . Feeling free to not worry about every little morsel of food I put in my mouth....but being mindful of healthy eating and staying away from large quantities of "white" stuff I faithfully get on my treadmill every morning before noon and try to walk at least 15 minutes. Before I have my lunch, I think about what I am making for dinner and eat accordingly. In other words, if I am having pasta for dinner, I'll choose a salad for lunch....just to lower my daily carb intake. My stress level has decreased tremendously since I have stopped "counting" carbs or calories or fat. If all I have to do is to not eat for 16 hours each day....WOW! Count me in! I can do this

WOE: IF
I read a little bit about intermittent fasting everyday. It keeps me focused. I am starting day 7. This week I weighed in everyday. After tomorrow, I will start weighing in one day a week. I find myself shortening my eating window. My eating window is 11 - 7. Yesterday my last food was at 5pm and I did not eat today until 2pm. I still get hungry at night and have to talk myself out of eating, by morning I am not hungry anymore.

If you are trying to follow the 8 Hour Diet (IF), you do not have to only have one meal a day.

Just watched a great video by Dr. Mercola on starting IF..He said to not eat anything, except water 3 hours before you go to bed, then gradually lengthen the time in the a.m.
that you begin eating. He said it might take weeks or months to get to the 11 a.m. to 7 pm window or your window of choice. I believe this is very wise..

I found it very easy to go right to a 12 noon - 8 p.m. window of eating....but once I am finished with the 16 hour fast, I eat lunch and dinner with a few very small snacks.

Dh and I were chatting tonight. He thinks an 8 am to 4 pm window would be more workable for him. Thoughts?

Regular bf/snack for lunch/regular dinner.

Any "8 hours" will do

From everything that I have read, it doesn't matter which 8 hours you choose as long as you leave 16 hours to fast. If 8-4 works for him and he is completely finished eating by 4 p.m., that should work just fine. My problem is that my husband doesn't get home until 6 p.m. and I like to have dinner with him....so, it works better for me to have a regular lunch at noon and then dinner at 6....and then fast from 8 p.m. - 12 noon the next day. This way works well because most of the fasting hours are spent sleeping !!

8 Hour Diet

Yes, I find that since I begin my eating at noon (and I always have a nice lunch...pretty much whatever I feel like having....today I had a bowl of soup at Panera's and a 1/2 salad)--I won't really be hungry for dinner until 5:30 - 6:00. Then I will have my dinner....pretty much whatever I am making my husband....and that is usually it....unless I grab a quick "sweet treat" before 8 p.m. Had some delicious peach frozen yogurt the other night just before the "deadline" Seems to be working for me.

Hmm.. We probably need to cut back on lunch. Dh likes the early am schedule. Of course, I could have a snack for dinner if I ate a bigger lunch.
