Checking in---

I haven't been around lately; a friend and ex-boyfriend of mine (and building-mate) passed away suddenly the other night.

I'm pleased to say that I kept to my Meat & Egg regimen, though it was tough. Luckily, I don't have anything that could get me into trouble in the house.

Anyway-- I feel like I need some pampering and self-care; so, today's agenda:

Walk a mile and back-- going to Trader 'Ho's to get canned crab for crab cakes and chicken drumsticks, HWC. (Best prices in my neighborhood)

Clean my entire apartment while listening to Slayer, old Metallica, KMFDM, and Hardcore Punk. (Get's you moving, and head-banging make help work off the double-chin.)

Crab cakes, pork-rind battered shrimp, pork-rind battered Catfish for dinner. Leftovers will be snacks. Zero carbs. Also making Egg Drop Soup.

It sounds like everyone's making awesome progress, and it's really inspiring. Kepps me really motivated; this particular group of folks is awesome! I think a round of mutual high fives is in order. :-)

I'm actually really tired so I don't think I am going to stay up long enough to make dinner, but I am thinking that would be a really good lunch tomorrow!

Erica, sorry for your loss.

It has been a long time since I have had pork rinds. You just gave me an idea for a weekend meal.

You willllll!

Down another 0.6, and woke up to my first snow day as a teacher... in Houston of all places!
So excited I get to lounge around and read/nap all day.

B: Probably bacon and eggs
L: Hamburger(s) with mayo & mustard
D: Undecided

I've decided to go ahead and do a 75/25 fat/protein weekend with lots of butter, eggs, mayo, and pork belly.
I am going to see how this works, although I think for sustainability purposes, 65-70/30-35 is more realistic in terms of variety of foods. I had quite a time trying to hit 75/25 without also eating 50,000 calories. Not that I count calories, but I tend to eat a certain amount of food everyday. Any more than that won't get eaten anyway so there's no point even calculating it.

Greetings All.

Haven't been on in a few days and I thought I would take some time today to catch up on all the posts and what's been happening.

Erica, Joan, lilbeetle, Lori, qurlybee, Terri, tashydoll. . . hope you all are doing well. Congrats on the progress that you are making with M&E and staying on plan.

suzanneyea, I hope your cold has gotten better. Hopefully, you are back to being 100%

Karai, hello again. Haven't seen you in a while; hope all is well with you as well.

As for me, I am reporting that this week I lost 1.0lbs. Yeah, that's low, but every little bit counts. Plus, I had the non-scale victory with the shirt, so I can't complain too much. And after the stressful week I had, and add to that trying to deal with Mother Nature and the extreme cold-- I will gladly take that one pound, know what I'm saying?!! LOL

My goal is to be at an all time low by February 1st. We will see!

Cheers!

NAF

Great job so far, Joan! It seems your day off plan didn't do too much damage at all! Kudos to you!!! I also applaud you for being a daily weigher, I for one cannot do it... I become to obsessed. Again, great job. You may have to send me some of your meal plans!

Thanks NAF! I am basically following Atkins 72. Protein, eggs, 4 oz. cheese, mayo and 2 cups lettuce. Simple and effective (so far!!!). I wasn't much for salads before, but when you fry some bacon and pour that over the lettuce add a few boiled eggs, mayo and cheese, it is delish (IMO!)...in fact, that is what I had for breakfast today...and it kept my filled up nearly all day!

Hi everyone... sorry I've been AWOL. Have been stalking your posts but haven't had a chance to reply.

Erica sorry for your loss

Joannew, hi and welcome

Congrats to everyone on their achievements. Qurlybee you sound like you are killing it!!! Well done Finding your right personal balance is definitely the key to success I feel. After long research and trial and error I've found that on a daily basis my perfect balance is F:55, P:30, C:15. Which puts my carbs higher than most people who do L/C but if my carbs are too low for a long period of time I stall. Was hard making myself increase them and I was worried about weight gain, but it pushed me out of my stall to lose my last 10lbs p.s. I'm a teacher too

NAF big congrats on your 'shirt' victory...great work!!

It's Australia Day here and have started off with good old bacon and eggs...hoping to do a couple of days of M&E today and tomorrow. Will report back tomorrow to see how everyone is going.

Hi to all of my other M&E family. Also, welcome back Karai!!

And 1 lb loss is still 1 lb closer to your all-time low that I'm sure you will meet!

Yay - you're back!
Thank you so much, and I think you are exactly right. A few years ago when I was doing primal, I was eating way more carbs but ate around that fat percentage and lost very well. The issue was the excess carbs (especially ones like honey!) easily put me off track, and I only lasted about a month before going back to my old ways. I think you have to find what works for you, and it must be so liberating that you've found it. I hope to find my perfect balance soon.

I didn't try out my original plan today because my groceries came later than usual and I have to wait for my pork belly to defrost
Will be on 75/25 plan tomorrow!

B: CO and butter coffee
L: Double bacon cheeseburger
D: Hot wings!
(Dang - I ate a lot today...)

I know! That darn honey and all of the yummy primal treats you can make can be a killer! I overdid it once I got the hang of this WOE and it added back a few kilos. Then I came to my senses and got my act together and started to just think of those things as treats and not foods for everyday.

I love baking so it's really hard not to cook all the good stuff I'm allowed to have...fortunately for me I have a 4 year old and husband who love eating so they are more than happy to eat what I bake (and I get no complaints that it has no sugar/grains...they think it's fab!)

I love your signature BTW "induction (plus wine)"

I was totally right about eating too much yesterday. Up a lb today.
I drank a few diet sodas yesterday, too, which I think may have also had something to do with it because I didn't drink my usual gallon of water since they make me so full.
I just ate a leftover burger and had a diet soda (before I came to the realization), but I don't think I will eat much else today. It usually takes my body a while to get hungry again after overeating.
And I am definitely ditching the diet soda. I'll save that for maintenance and the few times I go to the bar (diet sprite and gin, anyone?). Sn: has anyone in here actually been able to have hard liquor? Because this WOE has made me a super lightweight! I haven't had any "real" alcohol in a loooooooong time.

I am going on 75/25 starting tomorrow and probably through Wednesday or Thursday. Hopefully that'll undo this gain

tashy: I love baking, too! I used to bake a cake once a week every week for a long time. It was like my sanctuary. I miss it sometimes, but I've found a lot more relaxation in doing other things besides baking. But then, I'm also not a wife or mother, so I'm sure that changes things
And yes, the wine is only making a short disappearance. It WILL be back!

Lori: congrats on your loss!!

Joan: looks like we both had a gain, but I wish mine was as small as yours!!! You're still doing a great job!

Back to strict meat and eggs today.

qurly - I indulged in liquor quite frequently and it hasn't effected my weight loss this month.

usually diet dr pepper and spiced rum

The weekends continue to do me in. I did real well with the food, a couple of glasses of wine Friday and Saturday. I had dinner out with friends and a Japanese steak house last night, even though I had barely a bite of the rice and only one Sake, you know that is not going to contribute to a good weigh in. So today I was way up. I did Atkins ‘72 Induction last week. It started with a bang and ended with a whimper. I think I'll do FF this week to change it up a bit.

I think I've recovered enough to get back to walking at work and perhaps start some lifting at home. I know that will make a big difference.

Wine is one of the worst choices you could make. Stick with hard alcohol if you are going to drink.

Lori: I drank a few sips of diet Sprite and gin and was pretty much drunk... lol. Alcohol just doesn't seem to agree with me any more.

Joan: Thanks!

I am down 0.4, but am hoping I will be back to my weekend weight tomorrow!
I need that mini goal to be met AND surpassed! Lol.

WOE: Primal/occasional M&E
Start Date: LC since 2010
Good morning my lovely M&E family

Seems everyone is a bit up and down lately...why oh why can't the scale just move in one direction!! So frustrating

I've been pretty steady and have managed to maintain my usual weight (which is fine by me...just HATE going UP!) but think I might do 2 days of M&E with the 2 cups of greens, seeing how my attempt for Sunday & Monday ended up as just normal Primal days (at least I stayed on my normal plan )

Planned menu today:
B: Coffee with HWC, 2 boiled eggs
Sn: Coffee with CO & HWC
L: Roast chicken with cup of green salad and vinaigrette
D: Thai noodle soup with prawns, cup of baby spinach & shiritaki noodles cooked in broth with garlic oil, fresh chilli, coriander, soy sauce & vinegar

Qurlybee I'm a bit of a lightweight myself nowadays but have been for a long time since doing LC. I'm a tequila drinker and find that if I drink that with soda and crushed fresh lime I don't get any gains. The only time I have a problem is if I drink wine (unless it's the LC and low alcohol one). But I rarely drink anymore nowadays...think I've lost my taste for it

Terri, hope you improve enough in health to do your walking and stuff (it's so frustrating when the mind is willing but the flesh is weak!!!) and let us know how the FF goes...I'd still love to see your menu on here

Joannew, what sort of menu are you doing for your M&E? It seems like you've still managed to keep some of your weight off even after adding some LC foods back in...so well done with that. Even small losses are a good result

Hope your week improves everyone and we all see some good drops on the scales.

Happy losing.

tashy: I didn't used to be a lightweight. I used to take shots like a champ! (Or as much as a champ as you can be when shots are involved... lol. It was college...)
And I wasn't referring to the weight gain aspect - I've been drinking dry red wine throughout most of my journey with the exception of joining in here a little while back and have had no issues losing. I was talking about the lightweight thing. It's so weird. The good thing about it is that I used to struggle with portion control of wine (mainly when I was drinking the sweet variety, but still had a hard time keeping it to one glass when I switched to red). I definitely don't struggle anymore - too much and I'm tipsy. I rarely ever drink more than 3-5 ounces anymore.
Ugh... just talking about my wine makes me miss it. I need to hit 131 soon!!!

What makes you say that?
I don't find it to be any different than indulging in anything else that's low carb. It's like 3 carbs per glass and one serving per day.
Well not anything else, but anything considered an indulgence. I don't really see a difference between it and other low-carb/sugar-free "treats."

Oh yeah, I knew what you meant about the lightweight thing in regards to getting tipsy quickly...I meant the same thing. Being a tequila drinker I totally understand the shots thing! Am basically the only one of any of my friends nowadays that can still do the occasional tequila shot without nearly vomiting!! But it doesn't take nearly as many drinks to get me 'happy' anymore!

Just mentioned the gains as a side-note to other comments in regards to drinking and gaining. Everyone is so different in this regard I think...quite frankly I rarely have problems with anything unless I overindulge (ie. a whole bottle of wine in one sitting ) Often it's not even the alcohol that is the problem, it's the poor judgement relating to food choices after the fact that causes the issue for me!! A glass of wine really should do no harm and if that's what gets you through, I say go for it

Lori – I’ll scoot over on the “What the heck was that all about” bench. I can use the company. Big hugs and prayers for the Whoosh Fairy to take pity on us tomorrow.

Joan – Take heart your body is probably just stabilizing after your great lose. What things did you add back?

For the most part, wine doesn’t usually bother me too bad. Sometimes I even get what I call the “wine cheat” a nice drop the next day. I think it was more the Sake and Japanese food (maybe a little too much wine on Saturday). But light weight? Oh yeah! I’m not sure if it’s the WOE or just the fact that I don’t partake very often, but I’m clearly a cheap date these days.

My numbers were good today 82% fat, 13% protein and 5% carbs, but I don’t think I could actually call it a fat fast, my calories were 1615.
B – 1 egg, 1 yoke, 1-1/2 T Rondele cheese, 1-1/2 T HWC with coffee
L/S – 2-1/2 oz Brazil Nuts throughout the day, 1 leftover spare rib
D – 3-1/2 oz Ground Chuck, 1 cup salad, 3T Caesar Dressing, 40 grms SF Whip Cream

So Tashy & Lil little help here please. I found myself wandering around today back on the Primal website. Considering the fact that I don’t have a ton to lose, wouldn’t I be better off trying to lose it on Atkins/M&E/FF or whatever and transition to Primal? Wouldn’t it take me forever to lose this last 15-20 # on Primal?

Hey Erica, NAF, Qurlybee and the rest of the family! Keep on losing!!
