You can google TDEE and put in sedentary and that is your average to shoot for on your UD. It's a very flexible and maneagble plan and very forgiving.

"But" you will see fluctuations and I know you have an HCG mindset so be warned. For maintenance it is fantastic and some people even can lose (not me). I am a daily weigher so I am used to fluctuations and while I don't like them I know the numbers I hit over and over again. After your DD when you eat the next day you will likely see a bump up and sometimes it can be a bit big.

Lots of people weigh in after the 2nd DD of the week if the daily up's and downs get to them. For example when I see my weight after several months of 5:2 I see : 128.6, 128.6, 128.6, 130.0, 130.2, 128.6, 130.2 and 129.8. Seems very reasonable and well within the 2 lbs that HCG has drilled in our heads "but" I have gone as low as 128.0 and as high as 133.2 all within this same time frame. Not to scare you because if you read my posts I love this WOE but be prepared for the big picture. Another thing my blood work numbers and blood pressure have never been better than on 5:2 so there are health benefits other than maintenance or weight loss

I love this WOE and for me it's hassle free and I can relax a little about eating. I am getting away from the diet mentality and feel more in control of my eating so there are many benefits doing 5:2. Good luck !!
Thank you Pandora
IS there a food list or is everything ok on the ud? Is this the JUDD diet or is it different?
I looked on Amazon but there so many different books I didn't know which one to get. I would like to look at it and see.I my wait until I am at goal but that will be some time away. But I guess it's good to have a plan. You have done so well I am so proud of you

There is no food list which is the beauty of this plan. Just eat up to your TDEE or calorie allowance. Now since you are in P4 I would eat like I normally planned up to my calories and slowly introduce your new foods. Some people eat low carb, others not. It's up to you and what works for you as long as 2 days a week you do 500 calories you're good to go.

It certainly sounds good. I tried JUDDD but that didn't work for me at all. I will give this try one of these days!
TDEE for me was 1695?

I've also just read about 16:8 .. So you have an 8 window to eat. Does anyone use this and if so is it used on both UD & DD?

Thanks

I've been doing 16:8 for close to a year. I started it to help with my night time munchies & while it doesn't help me lose weight it is fantastic for appetite suppression & maintenance. I can be flexible if need be but 99.9 % I stick to my window 7 days a week. It's very easy to follow & helps me stay on plan. I normally eat from 9:30 am to no later than 5:30 pm. Sometimes on weekends I don't eat till 11 am or even 1 pm depending how busy I am & those days my window is much smaller. It's really helped me get a handle on my eating and since I have my "window" I notice it's helped me in my relationship to food and in eating to hunger & just so much more in control. Weird to explain..

Welcome Lexiann!
Glad we can do it all together

So this is interesting .. I came off Atkins induction on Fri. The weekend I indulged a little, ready for my 5:2 starting today.
Well I've had excruciating stomach cramps & came home sick from work. I mean, these cramps could be unrelated but they are coincidental.

Ugh how frustrating. I want to lose again but my stomach looks like I've swallowed a watermelon

What's the latest on the 5:2 plan? Any updates? I'm thinking of giving it a shot while doing low carb.

Are you asking for your up days? I would eat the BMR on the up days. That would be the number of calories you burn just by living with nothing accounted for exercise or any activity.

Thank you
I am not on this plan but I am considering doing it. I just wasn't sure how to go about it.The numbers for the TDEE and BMR were about 300 difference so I was just wanting to know.I know the two down days are 500 calories. Thanks a lot. Also would this plan be more for maintaining or losing
I want to loose I have about 80 lbs left to loose. I can't exercise much except walking due to Rhuemetoid arthritis and degenerative bone disease.

there are variations of 5:2. i will try to explain...

2 days eating 500 calories (600 for men) eating whatever you want without needing to watch carbs. some don't recommend having more than 1 day in a row, while dr. varady states that up to 3 days in a row won't be detrimental to your metabolism. (i've done 3 to break through plateaus, and they haven't hurt me.)

5 days eating (here are the variations):
- whatever you want
- find calculations by googling: johnsonupdaydowndaydiet
- eat your BMR or TDEE

i personally eat 500 calories on down days, with 2000 calories up days. i can't just eat whatever i want. if i did, i'd eat the house.

i'm in maintenance, currently, so i switch my diet around quite a bit, to keep from frustration. when i do 5:2, i do not lose weight but maintain nicely. if 5:2 works for you, great. if not, try throwing in another day per week to find your sweet spot. it's worth trying out. it's the most painless method of weight loss that i've ever found.

Hi Ladies ! Nice to see some activity on this thread Tomorrow is my fasting day. I fast usually on Tuesday and Fridays. I also tend to stick to 0 % GY and strawberries and coffee through out the day.

I've been doing 5:2 since January for maintenance and the health benefits. I did get discouraged a bit a week ago and decided to try and stop. But then I jumped up a bit on the scale which I know while I didn't give myself enough time I decided to go back to 5:2. Seems like I can relax a bit more and enjoy more fruits, veggies, Quest bars etc. and even an indulgence here & there and my Fast Days always get me back within my comfy range of 128-132. So my break lasted exactly 1 week and thankfully 1 Fast day this past Friday got me immediately back into my range

I don't count calories but I eat no sugar/no starch and nothing after 6 pm and nothing really processed (other than a Quest bar here and there). I probably estimate I eat around 1500-1600 sometimes less. I try and exercise a minimum of 2x a week but aim for 4 to 5x a week.

Hope to see the lower end of my range on Wednesday.

Hi Everyone. My name is Jim and I started reading this forum yesterday. I've tried low carb which worked well for me, but it's incredibly hard for me to stick to....I love my NJ pizza!!! Anyway, I'm sitting at my desk at work for what is my first fast day eating a can of French Style Green Beans from Stop & Shop. The fasting is ok with me, as I know I can have food tomorrow. So far, I'm ok with this (first day...haha). I'll try and post every day if I can. Just wanted to say hi, and thanks. Have a great day!

Hello everyone! I could use some fasting buddies too! I am currently doing 4:3 but hoping to eventually move on to 5:2 for maintenance. I started this way of eating on March 23 and have been enjoying it so far! My weight loss rate has been at about a pound a week, but I have been far from perfect. There have been many not so low fast days, and way too many feast days that have been over maintenance calories, especially Easter weekend! But even with all these bleeps the trend is downward

Hello . I moved to 5:2 after doing low days every other day to lose weight. I still went down a little on 5:2. At 6:1 my weight loss levelled off, but I’ve gone back to 5:2 for the moment because there are a few holidays and weekends with visitors when I’ll miss the odd down day, and eat more than usual in between. In the longer term, I expect I’ll move between 5:2 and 6:1.
