Hope we can get more activity on this board. Well finished my 2 DD this week and today weighed in at 128.6 which is a drop of 3.4. Now these are not new numbers for me but very happy I got rid of the inflammation and water weight I accumulated when I changed my WOE from low low carb to a more balanced way of eating.

Pandora, google the name of the diet on facebook. There are some very busy closed groups there based on the two books.. One by Michael Mosley and one by Kate Harrison. I find them very helpful!

And, today is a fast day for me and I have my menus all planned. Very veggie heavy which is how I like to do my fast days.. I eat small amounts every few hours so that I don't get ravenous. I am treating myself to a massage this afternoon, and maybe the next 5 Mondays. It helps to have something enjoyable to look forward to on a fast day.. And, massages are great for getting those nasty toxins released out of our muscles.

Hope you are doing well Pandora! Did you find any of those groups I mentioned?

Yes I did and you were right they were so active ! I found a new one for the US that just opened this weekend from the original UK group. Very supportive bunch.

Doing well. After my 2 DD got to 128.6, then regular day Saturday & Sunday woke up to another loss -.6 to 128.0. I am always up on Mondays due to less sleep so up today to 129.8 and doing a regular day. Tomorrow is a DD and then Friday will be my 2nd one. Will be interesting to see if I can get lower than 128.6. But so far so good.

I found these crackers on Netrition and I know they sell them at whole foods. They are GG Bran Crispbread and are 25 calories a cracker with some sf jam for fast days and they fill you up big time & keep things regular as well. I have them with hummus on regular feast days to keep my appetite in check as well.

Good, I am glad you found the group(s).. I'll keep those crackers in mind. I have the Flacker crackers that are made from flax.. low net carbs and filling. Not everyone likes them, but I do.

Glad your weight is coming down! I may not weigh myself until the end of the month. I am doing really healthy things for myself (no alcohol for 30 days especially) and I don't want to be disappointed if the scale doesn't give me a number I expect.

Have a great day!!

Hello my name is Terri-aka Eieio

Im trying fast 5 today.
I'm a JUDDD addict! Love JUDDD.
But hoping the eating every evening will work for me.
I hAve bought the fast 5 book, Dr Herring and his wife both do fast 5.
I've been With dr. Johnson, JUDDD off and on with great success.
I play back and forth with 10 lbs.
But now I'm at 139# give or take.and want to lose to 133-135.
I want fast 5 to work sooooo badly.
My dh eats mainly in the evening, just his natural woe.
He was fast fiven before it was discovered
So far so good today.
My goal is to wait until evening to eat.

I was looking for it earlier myself. I know there use to be one. I was searching for it but couldn't find it. I've been Judding a while myself bouncing around the same 5 to 8 lbs for months.

I’m doing alternate days at the moment, but planning to switch to 5/2 for maintenance sometime in the next month or so.

I post normally on Facebook where there are more active threads for 5:2. I'm on the lc friends where I journal just this thread isn't very active unfortunately. I'm in week 3 but for me it's more for maintenance so far. Hoping to see a slow downward trend but I'm just happy to have my fruits/veggies etc without worrying about the scale. Not to say that I won't lose weight but I am very low already and have no desire to add more DD or tweak. But in a few months I may be able to happily report that I am a few lbs lighter ! But for maintenance it is an excellent WOE. I keep to my calories but can indulge here & there & not have a big set back like in other WOE. Good luck !

There are several very very active groups. There is even a 5:2 America since the UK can get a bit confusing when they mention recipes or stores where they find certain items or kilos vs lbs.

I lost 107 after having the gastric sleeve done 3+ years ago...I was on a weight loss surgery board and the mentioned this plan for those who have gained some back...so of course LCF is "home" so I was glad to see this thread. Off to search some ideas for my down days.

WOE: Atkins Induction
Start Date: 6th Jan 2014
Hello,

I've been doing Atkins induction for around 5weeks. I'm not too far off my goal weight & would like to move into 5:2 for maintenance in a while.
Can you tell me how/if you incorporate low carb into this?
I'm sorry I don't understand the terminology yet (DD, UD).

Grateful for any advice.

Thanks

DD = down day or your 500 calorie day
UD = Up Day or your feasting/regular day

The low carb is very easy to incorporate into this WOE (way of eating) just eat low carb and just stick to the calorie limit on the 500 calorie day. On your Up Day also eat to your calorie range or however you choose. Some people eat 2000 calories but it depends on your weight. If you are heavy you will need more calories than if you are at goal. My TDEE (google it) tells you what calorie you should aim for on your UD, pick sedentary for lifestyle. Mine is like 1700-1800 but I rarely find myself eating that much. Primarily because I have added back fruits/veggies to my diet and those are just not very calorie dense. This diet is very simple really 5 days eat "normal" and 2 days eat 500 calories. That's it !

For me this plan is fantastic for maintenance. I have done hcg and low carb. I have counted calories and macros. Now I don't count calories on my UD nor do I stick to low carb. I have been able to add back in fruits, veggies and lc treats but I do it in moderation. I even have eaten some regular meals and some sugar/starches and been able to still maintain. I just know that 2x a week I eat 500 calories and I don't worry too much.

There are some very active Facebook groups that really cheer you on and post lots of recipes, articles, support etc. Good luck !

So when you first started the 5:2 phase did you do low carb on your UD and your DD? And did you manage sugar and caffeine too?

Thanks

I really started 5:2 because I wanted to add more good carbs to my diet and not stress over macros etc. I had been maintaining on extremely low carb and was getting a little bored and tired of never having an "off plan meal"etc. I still do no sugar 98 % of the time and coffee is as important as water for me.

On my UD I eat moderate carbs but nothing processed. I have 1 or 2 fruits a day, 2 servings of veggie with my protein & a snack in the afternoon. I have an occasional low carb tortilla and fiber crackers and I also don't eat past 6 pm. For DD depends I noticed I get bigger drops if I do low carb or 0 % Greek yogurt all day (keeps me full & I get rid of lots of inflammation).

I have been allowing some indulgent meals like this past weekend but I make other allowances when I do. I may skip breakfast or have a Quest bar for lunch and then "save" my calories. I also immediately eat very clean and get on plan after I indulge. Today is a strict 500 calorie day for me and I will keep it very clean until I am back in my comfy range 128-130.

Thanks, I think I will do similar. Will try to keep to 500 cals where poss at beginning to maintain, at weekends would be nice to be more relaxed with food.
Still on induction rules but don't even think I'm losing anymore. Just finishing up my meats & then onto 5:2!

This is why I love this WOE ! This past weekend (Fri/Sat/Sun) I was at my son's school carnival with food trucks galore ! Now while most days I either skipped breakfast or had a bar I indulged otherwise. I had desserts (cupcake & cheesecake), fries with cheese & bacon, Cuban sandwiches with pork and all kinds of meat, Mexican food etc. I did not overeat & I shared with my hubby but I did "eat". Now I weighed in on Friday morning 130.2 after Thursday DD and on Monday morning I was 133.2 so 3 lbs after indulging for 3 days and eating off plan and definitely not low carb/ no sugar "and" I got my tom which is pretty darn good. After Monday's DD I am 129.8 today That is why I l-o-v-e this plan

IS this 5:2 Good for maintaining in PH4? I start PH4 Saturday. How does it work? I know 2 500 cal days but what are the other 5 days? Sounds like something I would enjoy!
And can you choose whatever days you want to do the 500calories?

I'm not sure about PH4 but I don't see why not. You can do your 500 calories days any day you want but just not consecutive. The UD (or feast days) are an individual thing. You can google TDEE and put in sedentary and that is your average to shoot for on your UD. It's a very flexible and maneagble plan and very forgiving.

"But" you will see fluctuations and I know you have an HCG mindset so be warned. For maintenance it is fantastic and some people even can lose (not me). I am a daily weigher so I am used to fluctuations and while I don't like them I know the numbers I hit over and over again. After your DD when you eat the next day you will likely see a bump up and sometimes it can be a bit big.

Lots of people weigh in after the 2nd DD of the week if the daily up's and downs get to them. For example when I see my weight after several months of 5:2 I see : 128.6, 128.6, 128.6, 130.0, 130.2, 128.6, 130.2 and 129.8. Seems very reasonable and well within the 2 lbs that HCG has drilled in our heads "but" I have gone as low as 128.0 and as high as 133.2 all within this same time frame. Not to scare you because if you read my posts I love this WOE but be prepared for the big picture. Another thing my blood work numbers and blood pressure have never been better than on 5:2 so there are health benefits other than maintenance or weight loss

I love this WOE and for me it's hassle free and I can relax a little about eating. I am getting away from the diet mentality and feel more in control of my eating so there are many benefits doing 5:2. Good luck !!
