Another snow day yesterday. Tried to fast at home but it was hard! Easier when I work.
I ended up with 700 calories again.

I ordered the book. It should come today!

Sticking to plan is always harder for me when I'm at home all day too. For some reason since being on Met Miracle, it has not been an issue. Fingers crossed that it continues.

Enjoy reading the book when you get it, psmiley. It always helps to have the book to go back and reread for inspiration!

Judy...how was that weigh in?

Lexi...hope you're doing well with your plan!

Hi ladies... here is my journal entry on how the 2nd weigh in went. Sorry, it's long - but it was me journaling to get a grip on my thoughts/feelings:

Tuesday 12/10 - morning after 6th fast.. 2nd weigh- in on 5:2 after having begun on 11/17 with my 1st fast day. 261.5 - Down 2 pounds from my last weigh in on 11/26. Of course I am disappointed with the memory of yesterday’s fast clear on my brain. I think to myself –“I have starved myself 3 days out of the last 14 days and all I get is 2 pounds”? What my brain is failing to remember is that 11 out of those days I ate like a queen! At least 5 or more of those days like a really out-of-control queen! So, what should I expect? My non-fast days are to be normal days with some treats from time-to-time. I know I have totally abused the good nature of 5:2.

Others on the FB forums say they don’t pay any attention to the calories on non-fast days. Some do, but those usually have less to lose or are towards the end of their weight loss journey. After my great loss the first weigh-in (6.5 lbs after 3 fasts in 8 days) I was hoping I was one of those people.. but alas, I am not.

So, what should I do? One thing I know - I will not panic or give up. Should I tweak? Should I start counting my calories on non-fast days? Should I go low carb along with 5:2? Should I do 16:8 IF daily along with 5:2? Or, should I just try to be my “normal” during the rest of the holiday season and then tweak as necessary in 2014? With another 3 weeks to go and about 6 more fasts to go in 2013, if I could lose 4 lbs (2 lbs after every 3 fasts), I’d be elated! Any holiday season where I don’t gain weight would make me elated!

So, yes.. journaling has helped me reach the conclusion that I will just try to be more aware of what I am eating/drinking on non-fast days. I will sometimes attempt a 16:8 if it feels right (I’m coming off a fast day and still haven’t eaten breakfast yet and it’s almost noon).. but, I will not give up socializing during the holiday season for the possibility of losing another couple of pounds.. It isn’t worth it to me.

Thanks for listening!

Sometimes I have reread this to put things in perspective:
Hello, do you know me? If you don't you should. I'm a pound of fat, and I'm the happiest pound of fat that you would ever want to meet. Want to know why? It's because no one ever wants to lose me; I'm Only One Pound, just a pound. Everyone wants to lose three pounds, five pounds or fifteen pounds, but never only one, so I just stick around and happily keep you fat. Then I add to myself ever so slyly so that you never seem to notice it, that is until I've grown to ten, twenty or even more pounds in weight. Yes, it's fun being Only One Pound of fat, left to do as I please. So, when you weigh in, keep right on saying "Oh, I only lost one pound." ( as if that were such a terrible thing!) For you see, if you do this you'll encourage others to keep me around because they will think I'm not worth losing. And I love being around you - your arms, your legs, your chin, your hips and every part of you. Happy Days!! After all, I'm Only One Pound of fat!!!

475 calories for the day. If I can make it through the night without eating, I will be good.

Good going Lexi & psmiley!!

We went out for dinner last night with a bunch of friends and I'm happy to report that I stuck to my plan very well. My only splurge was 1 light beer and 1 glass of wine. I only do that on occasion and don't feel the least bit guilty about it!

I had the best scallops I have ever had last night. They were done in a white wine & lt cream sauce with swiss cheese melted over the top. I wasn't sure about cheese on scallops, but they were divine! I only wish that I was eating bread, as I would have loved to soak up the yummy wine sauce! I thought about asking for a straw so I could drink it!

We got home late, but I crawled out of bed this morning and went to boot camp. Tomorrow will be spent sitting in my recliner watching it snow, so I wanted to get some exercise in today.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Hey Lori - you are such a disciplined person! Good for you! Your scallop dish sounds divine!.

I completed yesterday's fast without a hitch. I was going to do another one today, but DH and I decided to go out this afternoon/evening so that won't happen. I'm going to extend yesterdays fast until I am starving and have some raw nuts to tide me over until later. Best I can do.. I refuse to give up fun times.

I am off to Chicago for the weekend - Sat. - Monday, and then have social plans Tues and Wedns.. - so won't be doing a REAL fast at all until next Thursday. I'm thinking maybe doing a 24 hour from lunch Monday to lunch Tuesday. And then skipping breakfast most days. I'll see how that works.. I've never tried it, but I have to try something so that I don't fall off the wagon.

If I don't check in for a few days, you all take care and stay with the plan!

Does anyone do a 24 hour fast that is not a straight day?
I read about doing it that way and it seems to me that I could do a 6pm to 6 pm day pretty easily. I could not eat now, eat a small meal late morning and make it to dinner time tomorrow...

PSmileyf--do a quick search in this forum for a thread called PJ's MUDDDing. I think just searching MUDD or MuDDD will bring it up quickly. It might be of interest. re. that type of fast structure.

Good Morning 5:2ers!

Hope you all have a good week planned out. Make this a great week as it's leading up to the "Big One" next week!

Feeling "puffy" today although I stuck to plan all weekend. It was a struggle since I was snowed in. I didn't drink enough water, so I think I really need to chug today.

Hello Lori and 5:2ers! I have not been 5:2ing for the last 10 days or so. Just 10 days of overindulging. I am fasting today though and will continue on.. or I should say - start over. I'll weigh after 3 fasts and keep my fingers crossed that the number I see at that time isn't too much higher than the last time. At least for the next holiday season I'll have this WOE as a real lifestyle, and if I gain a few pounds I won't be totally starting from scratch.

Lori, good for you for sticking to plan during the holidays! Keep up the great work!

Hi Judy! Nice to see you back. You'll have any holiday pounds taken care of in no time.

I'm just about at the end of Step 1 of my Met Miracle plan. Now I'll be adding just a few carbs into my diet. I'm really looking forward to having Greek yogurt again! I'm allowed to have 11-20 gr of carbs every 5 hours. It'll take some planning, but It'll be nice to have a few different items available. I have to look for some whole grain crackers that will fit the bill. Any item I eat cannot have more than 5 gr of sugar. I'll be label reading at the grocery store today!

Hope your weigh in after 3 fasts is a good one Judy. Have a good weekend!

Lori, do you do "net" carbs or just normal carbs? Yes, the sugar thing is big out there now. Jorge Cuise's new plan says a total of 15 sugar grams a day. Sounds like that is about what you'll be doing with 5 grams every 5 hours. I bet you are looking forward to some variety!! Enjoy your weekend!

I think everyone is looking to get a new start next week! In a way, it'll be nice to just be back to normal routine after the craziness of the Holidays!

Judy...yes, I do net carbs. The yogurt I like is 15 or 17 carbs, but the sugar grams are 9. I bought it anyway because I love it and I'll see if I continue to lose on it. When I did Dukan early in the year, I ate it every day and lost 25lbs in 3 months, so I think I'll be ok. I also bought some Triscuit crackers that I can have a few of to get my carbs in.

Time to review my MM book so I can get started correctly on Step 2 come Wednesday morning.

See everyone soon!

I need to double check but I think I am at 650 calories today.
I am struggling to get to 500.
I'm going to have to start skipping any breakfast.

I wouldn't stress about getting to that 500 cal number. I have read about many people who have had success eating even up to 700-800 cals on DD's. Make it work for you!

Tomorrow is the start of my increased carb plan. I'll still only be eating between 50 & 100 grams of carb a day, but it'll sure be a change from what I have been eating! (Less than 20 a day)

No boot camp today as the studio is closed. Yesterday's workout just about killed me. I was so tired last night and my shoulder was hurting so bad. It feels pretty good this morning. I rubbed it with Tiger Balm when I got home from work and that made it feel a lot better. I have bursitis in my shoulder and yesterday I was doing extra stretching and I think that really flared up the pain. I refuse to give in to it, so I'll just have to deal!

Happy New Year Everyone!

Hi Ladies !! Hopefully some of you may remember me I did the 5:2 for 3 months and then took a break and went low carb for a long while. Well still maintaining along 128-131 but this New Year decided to re-evaluate my WOE. The thing is I can maintain on very low carb but I started having some major digestive issues and realized the time my system was doing it's best was when I was on the 5:2. Also I had the best blood work results ever on 5:2. Also I found I was less stressed about my eating and had no qualms about eating fruits, veggies and good grains.

So I have gotten as low as 126ish on no carbs but my it's like my digestion slows to a stop and then I go through terrible constipation. I realized I don't want to eat or live like that. For me fruits and veggies are vital.

That being said I feel on 5:2 on my UD I can relax a bit in that I can very obsessive about calories and percentages. So I know I can eat a more balanced healthy diet on 5:2. I also realize that last time I got bored or frustrated on the 500 calorie days because I (1) - would choose GY all day only to try and maximize my losses (big mistake) or (2) - I insisted on eating 16/8 vs spreading my calories around so if I was truly hungry I just made myself suffer through it..

So today doing a regular UD which for me normally is from 1200 to 1600 calories and tomorrow have my first 500 calorie menu planned out. I weighed in 131.2 this morning & would love to get to 125 so keeping my fingers crossed. So far going to do my DD Tuesdays and Fridays this week but may change it next week to Monday & Thursday. I still weigh in every day but going to focus on the weigh in after my 2nd DD.

I feel excited

Today is my first DD. Weighed in at 131.6 & while I weigh every day looking forward to see a downward trend after my 2nd DD which I'm not sure if it will be this Thursday or Friday.

Today's menu just a smidge over 500 to 550 but will not overly stress it.

Breakfast : 5 medium strawberries with 3 slices of canadian bacon
Lunch : 1 cup of spinach with 1.5 oz of cherry tomotoes + 1 can of albacore tuna & 2 tbsp of lite dressing
Snack : 1 GG crispbread cracker with a tbsp of sf jam
Dinner : calf liver (4 oz) with either half a cucumber with vinegar or a medium yellow squash + 1 apple for dessert

Hey Pandora - looks like a great menu with a nice variety of whole foods. I had a successful fast day yesterday.. my next one is Thursday. I made cauliflower rice for the first time and sauteed it in a mix of coconut oil and sesame oil. I seasoned it with soy sauce. It was a filling low cal snack. I also had a chopped salad and dressing and some homemade red sauce with a couple of small meatballs in a portobello mushroom cap with cheese melted on it. I try to eat lots of veggies on my fast day!

That's a good idea about the veggies. I just bought a steamer and was thinking for my next fast day do some squash noodles with salt & pepper with a mahi filet. Feeling a little hungry but not too bad.

How do you cook the cauliflower ?

I also like zucchini noodles.. I have a special spiral slicer for it. I sauteed the cauliflower in a combo of sesame oil and coconut oil for 10-15 minutes. I made it Asian style and seasoned it with soy sauce.
