Sounds like a good plan Lexi! I hope you'll still pop in and let us know how you're doing!

I'm still sticking with my Met Miracle plan. Haven't really been tempted by sweets or other carbs. I'm not really worried about Thanksgiving day either as by the time I get through cooking for all those people, I don't even want to eat!

Have a good week!

Hi! Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day!

I had a busy one...on my feet for HOURS cooking & cleaning up for 11 people. I did very well with my eating. I only ate turkey & sauteed green beans. I did have 1 glass of wine & 1 lite beer. Trust me...I needed them!

I had my final weigh in for the November challenge this morning. I lost 9.2 lbs during November! Not sure if I'll win the challenge, but I did my best.

Lexi...hope your new plan is working out well. Judy...how are you doing?

I just finished reading the book this week. Sure seems like S-L-O-W weightloss but maybe it will stay off that way.

I'm going to try Stillman's or HcG for the next couple months and then switch to 5:2 to maintain and continue the journey. I've seen a couple posts where ladies have done that in the past and I believe that is my plan.

Hi ladies.
I am jumping in here!
A few people at work have been doing this and I am going to give it a try.
I'm going to try to fast on Monday and Thursday.

Any tips for my first day.

Welcome Psmileyf! Tips for the first day... let's see.. plan out what you will eat for your 500 calories ahead of time and have everything on hand. Keep busy or try to keep near a computer so that you can check into the forums available. Drink lots of water, tea or broth. There are some very active ones out there, and this is NOT one of them.. I can't link you because of the Terms of Service, so google. Facebook also has some VERY active ones. Good luck! I have to say that this is so doable! If I think so after 50+ years of failing at diets, it has to be true!

Lori, here is finally my homemade sweet and sour cabbage soup recipe. I count it at 100 calories for 2 filling and delicious cups. (I am now cooking an oriental sweet and sour soup and a pizza soup.. If they come out good I'll post the recipes!):

Tastes like Jewish deli style soup – but without the meat.
6 servings… Double the recipe and freeze half for next week's fasting days!

3 - 14 ½ ounces can beef broth (or use equivalent carton or bouillon and water)

1 small green cabbage cut into chunks

1 Can diced tomatoes

1 Small Onion cut into chunks

2 Garlic cloves crushed

¼ cup vinegar of your choice (apple cider, rice, red wine, balsamic etc.)

Sweetener equal to 1/3 cup sugar (stevia, splenda, xylitol)

2 dashes Tabasco or other hot sauce

1 tsp Paprika

1 tsp Ground ginger

Salt and pepper to taste

Put all ingredients in a soup pot and bring to boil.. Cover and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 2 – 3 hours. The longer the better. Taste after 2 hours to tweak to your taste buds.. More sour (add vinegar) sweeter (add sweetener), saltier (add salt), spicier (add Tabasco).

No it wasn't. It takes a while to get used to low calories, but that was still better than 2000 calories. Enjoy a regular day and then have a low calorie day in a couple of days.

I hope not. I am starting doing this plan too- today is my first fasting day and I have already had 414 calories- its only 2.30 in the afternoon! There is no way I am going to make it all the way to bed time on 80 more cals

I am inclined to think that even just a reduction in calories will make the difference required. I am a HUGE eater (der, hence why I am here) and even if I get to the end of the day and have had 700 cals that is still less than a third of what I would normally consume.

Am I right? Or should I be adjusting this to rigidly stick to the 500 cals?

I am not hungry now, but I don't think I can make it all the way through the day? Any advice?

You girls are fine! I'm not currently doing 5:2, but I've done a lot of reading about it and many people feel best on 700-800 cals on a fast day and lose just fine. I know 600 was about as low as I could do when I followed 5:2 or JUDDD. I'm going to use 5:2 for maintenance when I get to my goal.

Great to see some new faces here!

Thanks, girls.
I as hoping there was nothing magical about the 500 calories.

I am trying another fast day on Thursday. I am down to about the last 5 lbs I want to lose, so even 1/2 lb per week would make me happy!

Hi and welcome to the new 5:2'ers!! According to the intermittent fasting books I read where you have up days and down days, the down day needs to be at 25% or less of your up day calories - in order to get all the health benefits of Intermittent Fasting.. There are many health benefits in addition to weight loss.. I suppose if you ate more on your down/fasting day, there would be still enough of a weekly calorie reduction in order to lose weight.

I am a total foodie, so if I can do it almost anyone can!.. I've only been on 5:2 for a couple of weeks, but I tried JUDDD for about 3 weeks last year. I couldn't handle the alternate day calorie restriction (felt too deprived), but I can handle only 2 days a week. The key is to stay away from things that spike your blood sugar because when it falls you will be starving.. So, I keep away from most higher GI carbs - bananas, oatmeal, etc. I stick to egg white scrambles and veggies, homemade veggie soups, small amounts of protein. Pickles when necessary to chew on something very flavorful.. I also plan out my food for the day and have mini-meals to take the edge off. Many others wait to eat until their evening meal - but, I think it takes time to work up to that. I'd like to be able to not think about food at all on my fast days.

Anyway, good luck and know that you CAN do it!!

Judy

Thanks dipgal, thanks everyone.

I am relieved to hear that you need to just stick to 25% of what you normally eat. By the end of yesterday, my first fasting day, I had consumed 786 calories. On the other days I am doing low carb, high fat, so the day before I ate about 2800 kcal, but less than 20g carbs. Obviously it would be good to be able to reduce this even further, but I was hoping to sort of ease my self in to this WOE by not being too restrictive- a kind of one day at a time approach. I am not expecting miracles, but one really good thing has been that I just don't crave sugar or sweet things any more.

I think, looking back, I could definitely have kept to under 700 yesterday, but I felt like protein so I added a can of tuna. Hopefully if I keep recording, and reflecting, eventually I will figure this out? Fingers crossed.
Thanks for all the encouragement!

mmnix...some days you will be hungrier than others. Good job with listening to what your body needed! More protein is usually a good choice.

I have about 30 lbs to shift before I will join the ranks of the 5:2ers once again. I just like to follow along here to see how you all are doing!

I got a little gift to celebrate 1 year of attending boot camp classes. It feels great to have my hard work recognized!

Have a great day everyone!

Thanks Lexi! Are you doing a specific carb cycling plan, or just doing your own thing? Do you just eat higher carb one day and lower the next? Sounds like it's working great for you!

Keep in touch!

That sounds awesome Lexi! How high is a high carb day? I wonder if that plan would work to keep blood sugar levels in the optimum range? I'll have blood work in the Spring to see where I my levels are since doing MM. I do have a blood glucose meter somewhere. I suppose I'll have to start using that periodically to make sure my numbers are good. I don't want to go down the Diabetes road!

Keep up the good work Lexi!

Psmileyf - the only advice about "preparing" for the fast day is to know what you are going to eat and be sure you have it around the house. If cooking needs to be done for the family, maybe cook it on a normal day so that you are not tempted. Although some people think that it's harder if you have indulged in a lot of carbs the day before the fast day, I don't find that true for myself. I had dinner at a buffet last night and had dessert and some mashed potatoes. I feel fine today during my fast day... At least, so far!

Lexi, that carb cycling plan sounds really great. I have it at the back of my mind if 5:2 stops working. I enjoy watching you and Dani and the others talk about it.

Waving hi to Lori, and keep up the great work!!

I am doing this in addition to low carb, so that makes the carb thing a little easier.

thursday nights I go to a weightloss group and my husband takes my kids to McDonalds, so that will make that a little easier.

Happy Monday all you 5:2ers!! Hope you had a good weekend!

Does anyone have any good scale news to report? I love following all your successes.

I'm sticking faithfully to Met Miracle. I'm in Week 7 already! Not sure where I'm at on the scale since we are not to weigh till the end of Step 1.

Pop in and give us a report!

Hi Lori and everyone! I weigh myself every 3rd fast.. today is my 6th.. so tomorrow is weigh day. Keeping my fingers crossed. I am doing very well on my fast days, but not sure about my normal days. I eat my "normal", only go totally crazy once or twice a week.. not sure that's normal enough.. We'll see... I'll post when I know.

Have a good day!

I forgot today. I ended up being snowed in at my parents and woke up early to drive the hour home and stopped at Dunkin for some mocha coffee with cream. Since that wasted 170 calories, I decided to just fast tomorrow instead!

Yes, tomorrow is another day! The weather caused a lot of us to change our plans. Monday morning boot camp was even cancelled!

I was back to boot camp this morning. Tough workout as usual. It was a leg workout, so I'll probably be hobbling around tomorrow! Another workout Wednesday morning will loosen up the legs! I hope!

Make it a good day everyone!
