Wowzer! Good to hear Lindy!

Welcome back Ouiz! I bet the weight gain was worth every pound and taters should get you right back into the zone!

I am doing potatoes all week w/ a breakfast of protein 3 egg yolks plus a sardine. I am back on the RS - 2 tbsp per day.

I want to share this video of a couples weight loss together of over 300 lbs! It is a happy video and it really touched me. Nothing is impossible as long as you are determined!

Do any PHD friends hoop? I bought a 3 lb weighted hoop and found a fun video. It is really not long, about 20 minutes. Hoping to be able to do this while watching tv once I get the hang of it. I am also doing HIIT 3 minutes per day on the elliptical and it is a killa!!!
Plus I am still doing a EOD power walk of 4 miles. My plan is to do a bit of mixing up on the exercise routine and throw in kettle bells, resistance bands and toning every few days while breaking from the hooping/HIIT.

no worries Mama--everybody sees it with a Q--it is the way that LCF underlines the user names.

Sunday--I love hooping when I can remember to do it! Lots of fun.

My tater day went well yesterday. I must have peed 20 times! I don't weigh, so who knows what all that water weighed,, lol!

However, in combo with my horrible jet lag, it left me feeling crappy, so I am going back to a green smoothy breakfast, big salad lunch and taters plus veggies for dinner today. Somehow or another, green veggies are so much more energizing for me.

Down another .4 lb. That's 7 straight days of loss. I'm trying to get at least 1300 calories in a day. Haven't eaten PS in a while but will try again soon. Mostly meat and potatoes.

Hi Ouizoid! Good to see you!

Sunday - yes, I like to hoop, but I haven't done it for a while. I have some hoops in the garage. I might have gotten rid of the weighted one - I couldn't seem to do it without bruising. Perhaps I got one that was too heavy! I have some lighted hoops. It is fun to hoop with the lights down with some ABBA.

Do you have a good video? I haven't tried that.

Okay, I don't look anything like this girl does while hooping, but I am having fun. So far, I have the Cowgirl 2 hands, Weave, propeller, & waist hoop moves down. As far as dancing while hooping, let's just say, I need help.

OMG, Lindy! You are killing me! Wonderful to hear!

On the 3 minute HIIT, I am stepping on the elliptical at the hardest pace possible for 30 seconds, then I step regular for 30, repeat for 3 minutes. I have done this a couple of times per day and let me tell you, it is much more of a workout than it seems. I would rather do the HIIT kicks & jacks than the elliptical.

KeyTones, What weight is your hoop? I am reading that the heavier weight is known for bruising. I have 3 lb and after I get this accomplished will think about going to lower weight. I have read that the lower weight the more difficult.

This is the beginner hooping video that I found to be the best. Lots of excellent tips.

I don't remember - I'll look in the garage to see if I still have it (not home right now). I suspect I got rid of it due to bruising, but not sure.

Yes, it is harder to hoop with a light weight hoop. It is fun.

Sunday - OK, I found one of the weighted hoops I forgot I had. I got rid of the really heavy one. I carted this one up the stairs and put it on the scale. It is 5 or 6 pounds. I would NOT get one this heavy again. We just use the regular hoops.

I looked at Amazon and they are no longer selling it. If I put the name of it in, it says no longer available. I am sure they got complaints about the bruises and took it off.

On another topic, have you ever heard of nutritional yeast? I bought a small amount from the health food store and it is pretty tasty. It does not taste like cheese as I have heard, but more like something you could use to mix up a gravy. I think I will buy some more of it. Apparently other yeast is bitter - it has to be nutritional yeast for flavoring foods.

I bought some years ago and didn't like it. I think I iwll put it in potatoes as I have heard is done by the vegans. They get fortified b12 type.

My daylight robbery BRM unmodified potato starch and nutritional yeast arrived this morning which is a nice coincidence, Key Tones.

It's a DD today and as I'd rather not use starch to break my fast, I shall hold it over until this afternoon or evening (I'd be thrilled if it improved my sleep).

Joyce, Wouldn't this be fun to do with your daughter?

I just ordered another hoop for my daughter who is 34, mom to 2 boys, and an RN who desperately needs "me" time. I told her that this would be the perfect thing to do before the boys wake up or even after they go to bed.

I am so sorry everyone!!! I accidentally cut and paste the same video twice.

Here is the beginner workout. This is the one that taught me the lesson tips on how to get started.

The previous video is my workout which I can feel in every single muscle in my body.

SlowSure, So thrilled to know your BRM came.

From Tatertot on PHD~
Quote:
It should take about 30 days to grow the good gut bacteria to full levels and get rid of the bad. I’d love to hear what happens to you after 30 days.

The glucose modulating effect of RS happens immediately, though, as a function of the low glycemic index which slows gastric emptying and produces butyrate, so even if gut bacteria isn’t optimal at this stage, you are still getting benefits of the RS in other ways.

Be careful the water you mix it with isn’t too warm. If it gelatinizes the otato starch, it is no longer resistant. Luke warm is fine, hot is not. 120 degrees is probably too hot. When I first started getting lots of RS from food, I had some gassiness, too, which went away after a couple weeks.

I have done a few experiments at lunch with potato starch this week.
Another for KeyTones & SlowSure...

Quote:
Monday and Wednesday, my lunch was exactly the same: 1 baked potato, no skin; 1 can of sardines packed in water; 2TBS of sour cream. I checked my BG before and 1 hour after. Mon – 79 before, 135 after. Wed – 97 before, 142 after.

Tuesday and Thursday (today), my lunch was exactly the same, but I mixed 1 TBS of potato starch in with the sour cream: Tue – 96 before, 96 after. Today – 94 before, 97 after.

If anybody else has a BG monitor, I’d love to see some others play with this.

Taking a sample at only the 1 hour point maybe misses some important readings, but I think the readings speak volumes for what is going on. There is a definite change in the way the cooked starch from the potato is being absorbed. Maybe at the end of the day it doesn’t make a hoot, but I think it’s pretty cool.

For Kristin & our PHD's up north!

Alfred says~

Quote:
Bobís red mill potato starch is avaliable in the health food store in midland ont. so it can be gotten, they would probibly ship to you 705 526 0480.
Wout says~

Quote:
Update on my efforts: Iím comfortably at 40g of Raw Potato Starch a day, taking it after dinner, mostly with yoghurt. I went up to that level by starting at 10g and adding 5g a day, sometimes staying at the same level, judging by amount and ďheatĒ of windiness.

Changes I noticed:
Good:
- Less fat covering my abs
- Excellent daily motion

Undecided:
- definitely better satiation. E.g. only eating half the piece of chocolate and leaving the rest for later. I just donít know if thatís a good thing or not. I eat a big lunch and a smallish dinner where I would normally eat big twice.
Is it because I donít need more nutrients (the PHD satiation theory) or because my gut canít cope with all the fermentation?
- probably related: mild weightloss, still within healthy range

All in all I really like it so far. I think of it as a bicycle for the gut.

KT & Ouis,
Thanks for the info on nutritional yeast. I am doing "taters only" for dinner throughout this week. I was down 2.4 lbs this morn after one day. It was definitely water, because I went all day and night.

Mama! Woohoo! Isn't the tater fast the best?

KT, I didn't know they make a 5 lb hoop, the 3 lb is really making me feel it everywhere. I think I am going to get the un-weighted as well. Let me know if you find one you like. I will stop by Dick's today and see what they have.

Update on my RS n=1...

I am taking 2-3 tbsp RS M-W-F. None on the weekends. I have noticed a big increase in stamina! I have always loved to work out in the yard, garden, etc. But, I poop out very quickly. Like in an hour. Well, I rode the riding mower for 6 hours on Monday, planted my flowers, peppers, & tomatoes. AND cleaned house. AND I felt great! It has to be the RS, because I am not that athletic yet. I am trying to build muscle, but after gaining AND losing 50, gaining 30, losing 50, I am lacking muscle. I now see why RS is included in the athlete's drink (UCAN).

Also, it doesn't seem like riding a mower would be a workout, but our lawn (3 acres) has lots of hills, bumps, and angles, & many, many trees, that cause me to work my waist and upper torso. Never buy land with hills!

The other BIG change is my appetite. I never have hunger and that is unreal for me! I sleep all through the night! I rarely wake night. That is amazing.

I got complacent and didn't watch my numbers and I gained a lb. Oh well, it is a learning experience. I do feel that the weight is coming off because I can feel the "rolls" getting smaller.

Going to the grocery store later today to restock on essentials. Time for liver again.

Hello Phd'ers!

I've been MIA, so sorry...just trying to get my head on straight and out of the 'self-loathing' cycle. Much better now, I have a plan. Glad to hear everyone is doing so well! That is so exciting.

Love the idea behind the hoop. Do you think it would kill me to try it? No really, I'm serious.

This is such a fast moving thread, please forgive me for not commenting on everything. I'll try to keep up.

Hiya Blonde! No, it will make you sore. And, in places I never knew existed.

Just make sure that you try a 2 lb if you want to do weighted. I bought a 3 lb and wish that I had found lighter. You need the weight to help you get the hang of keeping the hoop up. When I began, I couldn't keep the hoop up because I tried to use my derriere too much. I moved way more than necessary to keep the silly thing up.

You may want to find one at a yard sale and play with it before ordering a $25 hoop. Just a thought.

SlowSure and Ouizoid - thanks! There isn't anything I don't think at least one of you hasn't already discovered that I come across!

Ouizoid, thanks for the tip. I have seen that website.

I have been perplexed as to how to keep weight off. Suddenly, I am up five pounds Well, it isn't a huge shock, I have had a three-week stretch with parties and eating out and festivals and such. I didn't go crazy, but I really can't be eating out much, apparently. I think I have to go back to the potatoes. I'm going to work on eating more vegetables and work in nutritional yeast. I'll try the tomato and cucumber route as well fo more veg.
