I'm sorry to hear the issues you are facing. I'm doing really well with the exception my face is breaking out too. This could due to a number of things -- the sugar, the gluten (from cookies, bread), more Omega-6 fatty acid in-take (mainly from the commercial salad dressing). I was eating up to 150 carbs before BB, but ingesting barely any gluten or sugar, so my skin didn't suffer as much before. I'm going to have to experiment and see what's causing this issue.

I hope you figure out what's causing those issues!

BB today, finished by 8:50am:

- coffee with cream
- salad with thousand island dressing
- bbq pork
- tuna salad
- Vietnamese "head cheese"
- a handful of longans (they're similar to lychees)
- 3/4 pint haagen-dazs ice cream
- sweet sticky rice with peanuts and mung beans

It was around 2000 cals, 120g carbs, 97g protein. I'm so proud I got in 97 grams of protein! I admit I'm still tracking my macros and don't plan to stop doing that. I'd like to be able to know how much I'm eating and how it all impacts my body for the day. I don't trust that my body can tell me how much food I should be eating, since I'm still struggling to get that much food in in the morning when I have no appetite and hunger.

I did get quite sleepy the first few days but last couple days things have changed -- I'm not sleepy anymore! I feel good, alert, and quite energetic the entire day!

Appetite and hunger getting at teeny bit better. I definitely have to work quite hard right now to down that much protein. But I know the more protein I can eat, the better.

I woke up this morning feeling well-rested, happy, and slightly looking forward to breakfast

Hope everyone has a great day!

Breakouts are hormonal and have to do with changes in the body hormonally. I know naturopathic approaches tend to view it from food but I think the real research shows it is the body's hormonal response to the foods. As to the sugar and jittery: are you eating enough protein? Not all carbs are equal you are right that's why you do better with potatoes but are you really getting in enough protein and fat when you tried sugar? Also low carb veggies. The fiber and fat are magic against carbs and the Heller's knew it and that is why they were all about "balance" and especially CALP with if you go back for more carbs you need more low carb veggies and protein and to try to balance it in the 1/3's. Just a few suggestions but I for one cannot go my life without sugar! Your hormones will change when you change your eating or just depending on the TOM. I had adult onset acne and was clear faced all as a teen. Now even close to 40 I know when my period is coming because I ALWAYS get a zit or 2. I cannot say that since I "grew out of" my adult onset acne that I get any breakouts except for my TOM and I know my TOM is a hormonal storm!

Thanks for the support and suggestions. Since going low-carb, I never break out anymore, even with my cycle. It is definitely fod-related in my case. Luckily, I'm very happy with my LC woe, so I will stick to it. I just get to enjoy it more and see better results when I combine it with IF, CAD, BBD style eating! It's a win-win for me.

I'm pretty sure the breakouts are food-related for me as well. But I don't plan to stop BBD. I love this WOE. I'll just have to tweak and figure out what could be causing the breakouts and make adjustments.

Dairy could also be a contributor factor to my skin problem as well as wheat/gluten, sugar, and omega-6s.

This morning's BB:

- coffee with cream
- salad with thousand island
- 10 oz ribeye
- smoothie (fage greek yogurt, grapes, banana, pineapple)
- 3/4 pint ice cream

MIW, thank you giving me the idea to try smoothies. I will definitely incorporate more smoothies into my BB. Fruit is packed with vitamins and minerals and makes me feel like I'm being a good girl LOL.

Has anyone commented on how this is a little like the leptin reset diet.
I know the leptin reset diet is low carb but I was talking about the calling
for a lot of protein very early in the day. It calls for eating 50g of protein
within 30 min. of geting up.

Could be. The Heller's were probably the first to study eating carbs along with protein in a 2 year study. Dr. Atkin's most likley predated that with protein only and low carb diets were known to work all the way back to the turn of the century. There is always tweaks and slight variations but the Heller's were probably first to say eat in under an hour, do not graze and only eat max up to 4 times a day to minimize insulin surges all day long- even if high protein.

Well, I'm hanging my head.. I'd been doing so good, but then TOM showed up and I fell off the wagon. I don't really even know why I entertained the thought of eating outside my BB, but I did and it's been a whirlwind of cookies for the past few days. I think I've been in a bad habit of not getting enough protein, veggies and all around healthy stuff at my BB. I'd pretty much just been eating processed junk for the past week. I think it finally caught up with me. Tommorrow, I'm really going to get back to getting that 7 oz of protein, veg, fruit with just a portion of a sweet treat. I started to give up and go back to low carb, but really I don't want to do that. I will never stick with low carb in the long run. I know this works. Getting back on this wagon and trying to actually do it as written.
Hope everyone is doing great this weekend!

Back on it today. My meal this morning was:
3 fried eggs (fried in olive oil), 3 sausage links, 4 sausage balls, apple crisp, coffee with cream and diet pepsi. I had a sweet potato ready to eat, but I was still so full from my weekend of eating junk I couldn't get anything else down at 4 am this morning. I hate starting over. That should be motivation on the next time I think of getting off plan!

Hope everyone has a great Monday!

Hey DO NOT beat up on yourself. This WOE is very forgiving and flexible! I love it. I have some days where I have to talk myself into NOT cheating, but I tell you that is so very rare. I also notice that in the last year 6 of my TOM have been great and the other 6 have been crazy with all of a sudden craving chocolate and carbs, especially late in the day. (Regardless of doing carbs at evening meals or in the am). It is just the hormones and that is when you have to power through, use your brain and mantra "carbs ONLY once a day" and not get off track. It takes about 3 days to start feeling better back on low carb and about 3 days to completely spiral out of control. At least for me.

I am up 0.24 pounds this last week, but do not mind one bit. I have had to all time low weights this last month, know I will be down overall for the month and have been there a lot in the last year to lose lose, gain, lose lose, gain. I call it two steps forward one step back which is what my body seems to do.

How can I complain when I have awesome large steaks, salads, fruit smoothies, ice cream milkshakes with espresso, stacks of cookies???? I mean come on! This is living!

WOE: One meal a day CAD style

Ok all, I officially ended ONE YEAR following CAD/CALP and combo with intermittent fasting. Once I met other people doing Rachael Heller's original way to lose weight by eating only one meal a day I slowly evolved my own eating patterns to that. I make sure to keep to the one hour rule. I am up to about 5 days a week with truely only one meal a day. The other 2, maybe 3 days I do end up having a CM if I need it. I do not force myself to eat the one meal a day. It is my natural hunger that guides me. The days I do get hungry again I will go ahead and have the CM. I also the last 3 months have switched to eating my RM in the morning and try to have it in by 9am according to The Big Breakfast Diet which was heavily cited by the Heller's in their book The Stress Eating Cure.

So now I am doing a combo of CAD/CALP, BBD, SEC, and IF- WOW!!! My personal eating plan is a one hour, total day's supply of calories, at least 7 ounces of protein, and consumed by 9am, balanced of protein/fat, veggies/fruits, and carbs (or at least my ratio that I found I can lose well on). Sounds complicated but is very easy and doeable. I sleep well with no full belly, have seen better results as well with ring being loser, just "appearing" thinner even though weight loss is still slow with a monthly avg of about 1/4 to 1/2 pound a week eating like this.

I did start out following CALP as written. I still avoid MSG, anything SF/AS in it, caffeine (even decaf) outside of my RM hour. I have experimented A LOT in the last year with RM for dinner, RM for lunch, then RM for breakfast. I follow many of the CALP "options" and even tried the GTF chromium for 2 months then went off and did not track any noticeable slow down in weight loss. I try to eat lots of cheese and fresh ground black pepper for natural sources of GTF chromium as the Heller's explained. I "aim" for balance at RM's with the 1/3 protein/fat, 1/3 low carb veggies, 1/3 carbs of my choice. However, along my journey in the last year I discovered I can still eat 1 part protein/fat to 2 parts low carb veggies and 2 parts carbs and still lose!

I probably was only eating about 1300-1500 calories a day the first couple of months but slowly started learning more about intermittent fasting and high calorie weight loss and actually increased my caloric intake but followed "the rules" of CAD and do intermittent fasting enough days of the week that it actually makes me less hungry and able to tolerate the amount of calories I currently eat and still see results.

I eat most days anywhere from 1800-2300 calories. 100-300 gms of carbs. A typical meal consists of this:

1 Large Ribeye Stead

24 ounce Blender Bottle fruit smoothie made from 1 banana, one orange, 1/2 a large apple, 1 Cup each of green grapes, red grapes, and strawberries. 1 Cup of full fat yogurt. I use "Cream Top" by Brown Cow which is 9gms of fat per serving.

12-16 ounces of an ice cream milkshake made with 2-3 cups of regular fat/sugar ice cream, 1/2 to 1 cup of regular half & half, and a Star Buck's Via thrown in for coffee flavoring.

5 chocolate chip cookies

Some days also add a 4 to 6 cup salad of mixed baby greens and 4 TBSP of regular Hidden Valley Ranch.

It may seem over the top to eat all that in one meal but I found I is doable, I do not feel stuffed like I am after a typical Thanksgiving meal. The full feeling last ALL DAY long and I am getting awesome tastey foods day in and day out!

My personal opinion on this WOE, sprinkled with hours of research on insulin resistance, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, syndrome X, hyperinsulinemia is that it isn't so much about the calories but is about minimizing insuin surges the rest of the day. Also about surpressing some of the other hormones like cortisol while raising and maintaing seratonin. There are suggestions by the Heller's and Dr. Jacobowitz in the BBD book and SEC book so I slowly encorporated those.

I only want to share my story of the past year and what has worked for me. I have only been off plan a total of 10 days (or less) in the last year. I learned that it took me 17 days to take off the weight from 4 days off plan! I learned that it can take 2 days for the result of a cheat day to show up on the scale. My point is that being off plan can serve a purpose too in the scientific method of learning about my own personal metabolism.

MIW are you still eating just breakfast this week? Have you had any cms? I still can't do those for some reason. I always feel like I need dessert afterward so I steer clear of cms. Keep posting those menus. They are a great motivation for many especially calorie restricters who don't believe they can eat. I hate seeing people suffering.

Yes I still do CM's if needed. At work the other day I had a small salad with some diced chicken and shredded cheese, plus 2 boiled eggs and 2 slices of cheese. Brought me up a bit yesterday but today I am back down to 212! I don't want to be hungry so on those days I will go ahead and eat but we are talking maybe 2 or 3 days a week.

WOE: BBD/IF maintenance
Start Date: 10/18/13
Today is my 12th day doing BBD. I'm doing great. I aim to eat at least 2000 cals, 90-100 g protein, and up to 150 g carbs. Fat can fall wherever it wants. Lately it's been 100g - 115g fat. How great it is not to worry about keeping it low fat when I eat carbs. I don't want my body to get used to eating low cal and low carb to maintain my weight so that's why I'm trying to keep it to at least 2000 cals and 150 carbs. I will even aim to push it up more if I can later down the road.

I start drinking coffee and cream around 6:45am and start eating around 7:15. I don't finish until a few mins before 9am. But 9am is my cut off time.

I love that I have lots of energy and am very productive right off the bat first thing in the morning and the energy never dissipates. I don't have hunger or craving for most of the day. I usually get somewhat hungry by around 8pm, but the hunger is very manageable and I have no problem going to bed slightly hungry and with stomach empty. I prefer it that way. I've always hated going to bed feeling full. I've been sleeping well.

If I could maintain my weight eating this way, I would say this is just mind-blowing.

The only problem I have right now is not being hungry in the morning, but I know this will change. I know the body adapts. How do I know? When I was in grade school I ate a hearty breakfast EVERY morning with my dad for years. My body was used to that and I was always hungry in the morning. It was what my body expected. As time went on, I pushed breakfast to later and later in an attempt to "save" calories for later in the day. How many people can relate to that concept of saving cals for later? I bet a lot of people can. Anyway, as time went on and food got pushed to later and later, I lost my appetite for breakfast. It then became more natural for me to eat and be hungry around noon. The only time that I got hungry earlier was around PMS. Anyway, knowing that the body can adapt, I'm gonna be patient with my body. I know if I keep doing BBD, eventually I'll be hungry and craving around breakfast.

I'm still eating the same sort of food lately: salad, steak, fruit yogurt smoothie, ice cream, cookies. I'm sure I'll branch out to other foods as time goes on. I still feel I need to tread carefully as this WOE seems too good to be true and I'm afraid it's gonna blow up in my face soon

Also, the first few days of BBD, I was quite drowsy after my BB. The first 2 days was very bad. But things got better and better until this past few days where I'm very alert and energetic even after my BB. So if anyone is suffering from drowsiness after your BB, just be patient and ride it out. Your body will get used to it.

Yes exactly ditto to everything you said. Except I follow the one hour rule from CAD and do all my calories in the one hour. I too am fine for the other 23 hours with rare exception. The very first day I tried BB about 3 months ago I got very sleepy and jittery. It was scarey! But now after my third attempt I do wake up hungry and have plenty of energy. I love it!!!

Kaleesy, it is nice to have someone my same size on the BB. It helps to reassure that this works when people get to their ideal weight. I too don't eat all my BB in an hour. I get up and sometimes eat fruit first as I miss it so from not being on those old fruit diets. I don't crave it then so I eat it first. Then I run sometimes and eat the rest of my BB before 9 a.m. I didn't like how I felt this week as I had to push it to 11 a.m. a couple of times. Have you had a free day yet? Do you exercise? What other diets have you tried?

Jones I'll bet you didn't gain as much as you would have had you not been on BB. Are you still eating early? How tall did you say you were? You must be close to goal and your free days!!

I don't think I did. I showed a 4lb gain but really some of that was water weight from TOM. So, it was about 2lb from the 2 days off plan. If I'd done that on low carb, it would have been 5-7 easy. And on low carb, it would take me twice as long for the weight to go back down. Today I'm down 2.5lb already!

I do still eat early, I usually get up about 3:30 and I've been trying to eat within 15 min of getting up. I usually get a little hungry in the afternoons and just try to have a protein snack.

I'm about 5'3". My goal is about 130 since I have a larger frame to be so short. At 120, you could literally count all my ribs and see my hip bones severely. My mother and husband both thought I looked a bit like an Ethiopian. Or a 12 yr old boy, since I'd lost all my curves At the time, I really didn't think so But it was so hard to maintain that weight that I later settled at 130 for my goal. Now, since finding BB I don't think I'd have any problem maintaining that weight. Especially seeing that a few of you ladies have no problem maintaining at 110!

You are like me! I am 5' 2.5" and I remember weighing 140 and looking so good! Like between Kim Kardashian and Sophia Vergara which is where my body would be if I was ht/wt proportional. I am not sure I could even recognize myself in the 120's! However I saw a recent tabloid pic of Sophia where she looked very thin and actually looked good on her so who knows? I know my body has a lot of muscle mass so I will be roundish no matter what: either from fat or muscle but no bones sticking out! LOL

MIW, I know what ya mean. I never thought I would look bony. But, I think I was losing weight in a not so good way (diet pills and low carb starvation) so I must have lost a lot of muscle. I've always been very muscular, but I sure didn't look it at 120.

I am back in the 130's: 139.2!!

Today my meal was:
Coffee with cream, sugar free chocolate milk, French toast sandwich, greek yogurt with granola, sweet potato with butter, apple crisp and 3 mini candy bars.

Hope everyone has a great day!
Happy Halloween!
