You know Natasha, that is a good loss. Not super fast but hey, we are always saying "It is not a race." You are doing a good job.

I'm confused here.....There is the 5:2 Diet by Kate Harrison and the Fast Diet by Dr. Michael Molsey. They look to be the exact same WOE. Are they? And if not which is more informative?

Up only .4 after my RD yesterday and not really hungry yet today so I'll eat something small to get me going and then have a nice lunch with my Mom. I have been more mindful of calories yesterday even though I didn't count and I think this is why the bounce up was small. I can live with this, that's for sure!!

So far I'm down weight, an average of 1.4 pounds since I started 5:2 and I think I'm going to call this WOE my own, it's SO doable and the binge monster is 99% gone and when he tries to surface a quick "GO AWAY" makes him retreat fast! It's the "knowing" that I can eat tomorrow all I want (within reason, of course) and that there are only 2 SDs for me in a week that is working so well for me with my relationship with food again!

I am losing weight, slowly but that's fine with me, I feel great and can even do my 2 mile walk on SDs without a problem, and THAT IS A REALLY GOOD THING!!

Yes they are the same in principle. But each is selling a book so there will be slight differences. I haven't read the Kate Harrison one yet.

Looks as if this is the way forward for you Beeb. Wonderful.

Hi

Former JUDDDer here. Lost well on AF but always did do MWF and not the full alternate days. Coming back to the fold now after a long break for putting on a pantomime. I was eating very erratically but also very active and that adrenaline keeps your metabolism high. So I've kept in the right sized jeans but am aware that now life is back to normal it's creeping up without a WOE.

Maybe I'll try the 5:2 for a bit. Two of my friends are doing it and the husband has lost 3 stone. Although he's very tall, male and quite a bit over weight so that means more impressive loss.

I do need to watch the UD calories. I was one of the slow losers.

You'll love it Star.

Tell us about the Panto, I've played Aladdin in my youth and a number of principal girl roles. Happy memories, these days I only do rehearsed readings.

Hi Kissa. Fancy seeing you here

It was Beauty and The Beast. I direct, although I've been on-stage as well in other productions. We won the county panto competition last year with Treasure Island and are hopeful for another win this year. It was very pretty and magical and we has a snow machine for the scene when the spell was broken and it snowed indoors. The audience gasped.

Aladdin is a favourite. It's a great one for a principal boy with good legs!

Sounds as if you are doing great work, hope you win again. I did all my stuff in the Far East, such fun. I did once direct Charlie's Aunt but It wasn't really my thing. My DH and I met when he directed me in A Taste of Honey, he did a lot more directing than me.

It's a great way to meet future partners. My Beauty and my Beast are both teenagers, would never have met normally and now are in love. Rehearsals were very interesting!

I love directing. It''s a ton of work but when it all comes together for the shows it's a fantastic feeling. I was on a high for weeks.

Hi Everyone --
I just started 5:2 on Monday. I had an almost 10 lb weight gain over the holidays and after. My husband was in a very serious accident and I compensated by overindulging/bingeing on sweets. To rectify I began South Beach two weeks ago but struggled with it and happened upon news articles about the 5:2 diet. It seems to make perfect sense to me, particularly since I've always sensed that maintaining a low calorie diet for long periods of time has always put me in a stall.
I downloaded the Kindle version of Kate Harrison's book last night. I'm not that impressed with the book but don't want to throw out the baby with the bathwater. I'm excited to start reading all of your posts.
Please wish me luck.
I fasted on Monday and today, Wednesday. I think I will normally make my DDs on Mondays and Thursdays but this Thursday is my husband's birthday. He's home now and I plan to take him out to dinner.
My first goal is to fit back into my pre-Christmas clothes.

That's great!!! Are you keeping track at all of your calories on your normal days? I finally started tracking my UDs on JUDDD and I was under them, hence why I haven't been losing. My bounces have been decreasing so I'm hoping to begin seeing some losses soon now that I'm eating more. I guess if I do, I'll stick with JUDDD.

Thinking out loud here, and I know "just try it" is the answer. Since I tend to underestimate my UD calories, I wonder if 5:2 would work better for me just having the 2 DDs. And I would try, but I've wasted almost 2 months going nowhere and don't want to waste another month!

Gah!!! Why can't our bodies be simple????

I'm finding that I'm not bouncing when I don't do eod cycling. I am staying the same weight every morning, instead of a 2-3 lb bounce (up usually). I found the same pattern last time I went 5 days without doing a DD, then had a new low after 2 DD's. Eod has become a overeat/starve/overeat mess for me and I'm just going up and down the same lbs. So, I'm trying this for now.

Cindy - I think I'm going to stay on UD/DD thru March if I don't come over to 5:2 before then! Keep going back and forth contemplating...Are you going to use 2000/500 like I have heard the book suggests or use your JUDDD numbers?

I'm not really counting, but I don't think I would go up to 2000 every day. Maybe on special days, or if I just eat a little more than usual, but I want to stay as low as possible (for a UD)...anyway, I'm just experimenting too. Don't know what will happen or if I will stick with this either.

This is me. I'm amazed that I find I think I'm eating enough on an UD, then find out I'm not. Which makes me think I eat more normally than I think. But then .. why the heck do I weigh so much?!?!

I've been watching scalestepper to see how this works for her since we're the same weight. She's doing good, so I might be tempted to experiment if I don't get beyond my current loss by Saturday's weigh-in.

Ugh. Decisions, decisions!

No, I meant on the 5:2 I'm not going up to 2000+. On JUDDD I was going up and over 2000 regularly. I was getting over half of my calories before lunch sometimes lol. I don't eat as much when I'm not doing DDs eod.

Perhaps try it for a month, not a week, before adding more DD. Water retention can fluctuate wildly and a few days with just 2 500 cal days might be not enough to see a downward trend.

If one is an UUAD person on JUDD EOD (not saying you are...), EOD DDs probably will keep a person in check as far as maintaining or losing very slowly. With 5:2 I am more mindful of staying close to 2000 cals on regular days. (Or a range 1500-2000 depending if I exercise...). Then I still have a 2000-3000 cal deficit for the week...

YES! This exactly. I posted above before getting to the end of the thread!! I have found (and I think others, too) that "eating regular" is a little easier with 5 days as opposed to EOD. And as a result the overall cal intake for the week is lower, so with that nice deficit built in on the 2 DD, weight loss resumes...

Hi!

I aim for 500 dd, sometimes I'm a little under. I find I am eating 1400-1500 ud, just eating normal, low carb but lower fat than I was eating on Atkins. I haven't done JUDDD yet, but I did figure my #'s---normal calories 1932 - 20% weight loss mode 386.

Oh dear. I've been away too long. I just had to eat yesterday evening and went over my 500. I am back to "easing my way down" to 500 a day like I had to at the start of JUDDD.

I'm out of pterostilbene too so that didn't help. Having a very healthy UD today and I'll try again tomorrow.

Just heard GMA talking about the "fast diet". The teaser is "how would you like to 'eat what you want' and lose weight? They call it the 'fast diet' ". Should be an interesting piece!! Hope y'all can see it.

A teaser for sure! GMA didn't have the FastDiet segment on until 8:20.

It was really well done, sure to make the book a best seller here in the U.S. too, and will for sure create a slew of new converts. The segment hit all the main health benefits, mentioned & showed some short pieces from the Horizon documentary, plus a sample 500/600 day's meal plan. I only wish Dr. Mosley wasn't talking with his mouth full of food in one part. It's hard enough for some of us here in America to understand his British accent.

They ended the segment with all three of the GMA talking heads saying they're going to try it!

Ann

Whew. Just caught it. It was a positive piece!! So glad to see that. Much better than the Today show snippet. They were shocked with the food you can eat on the "fast days". And that was because they went and talked with the author of the book!!! Michael Moseley. I think that was left out in the Today show piece. And I think GMA did a fantastic job!!!! Yay to them!!!

The dreaded Chinese food!! Gained 2 pounds since lowest weight this week on Tuesday morning weigh-in but I KNOW it's water because of the Chinese food I had last night on top of more food than usual on yesterday's RD for me so far since starting this WOE!

I'm not sweating it, though and with a good SD today I'm going to see some loss on top of the water weight loss expected tomorrow.

Plan on staying at 400 cals if I can today, will see if I will need a "snack" when I get home from work tonight!

I'm so tempted to go back to JUDDD because of the fast weight loss but SO afraid of the binging again! The losses on 5:2 are so slow, but their losses so I think it's all good in the end!

This is why I'm wondering if it might be better for me since I tend to undereat my UD calories if I don't keep track. I may be impatient, but since I've had 3 good days of eating up to them, and keeping my DD's low, my weight doesn't seem to be budging much. I was on Kate Harrison's site and the people over there are having some pretty good losses. One lady has lost about 40 lbs. doing this. That's pretty good seeing as some are thinking 5:2 might be more for maintaining.

Thank you. I'd probably be the same with the regular days. Last year when I did check my UD calories, I was coming up with about 1400 - 1500. Not good when I needed over 1900 for an UD!

Hi everyone,

I thought I'd share a little of my experiment with 5:2, it's good! I'm pleased with my weight loss so far.

I have only been cold and unable to sleep the night of my first fast day. I was worried that might be a pattern but it hasn't been.

Yesterday my ud calories were 1,871 which is my highest calorie log and this is my 4th week. Once a month or so we have fried shrimp, yummy. We also had a big breakfast of sausage and eggs.

I usually don't eat breakfast other than coffee and begin my day around lunch time. I try to end my eating each night about 8. I never eat after 10. Sometimes I will have a snack around 3 or so in the afternoon which is usually a mug of chicken broth. If I do get hungry in the afternoon, I do add an additional meal.

As I mentioned yesterday, I am still eating low carb but lower fat than Atkins with no potatoes, bread nor sugar.

I hope this helps for those considering this woe.

Have a good one!

I have done JUDD before and plan on doing it now again. I will keep this option open though.
