Busy day yesterday but did pretty good. Calories were 1723. Sugar alcohols were pretty high from eating some chocolate covered peanuts... Scale was nice though and gave me another small new low! 185.2... Now to start this week's workouts this evening!

WTG Melanie!! Gotta love seeing that number go down, down, down!

I had a good day yesterday and have 2 days of boot camp under my belt for the week. Shooting for 4 days this week! Talk about a calorie burner!

I'm craving a big salad for lunch today.........

Good job Lori!! I've got a bootcamp class tonight...

Scale said 184.8 this morning! Super exciting! Got to get as low as I can before the pre TOM bloat hits. Maybe I can actually hit my goal for April which is 182... calories yesterday were about 2100.

WOE: One meal a day CAD style
Start Date: November 1, 2012
Hi everyone. I do a combo of Carbohydrate Addict's Diet along with IF. My windows are usually over 1, 4,5, or 8 hours depending on the day. However, I follow CAD rules where there is NO grazing. I eat sometimes just one meal a day over an hour called a Reward Meal and nothing else. Other days I eat a lunch "CM" which a craving reducing meal or complementary meal depending on which book you read by the Heller's.

The way Rachael Heller lost her weight (150lbs!!!) years ago was to eat only one meal a day of whatever she wanted but she pretty much just ate over an hour and then nothing for the other 23. She might have inadvertently been the first real intermittent faster out there who put that into print. Anyways, she and her husband who are both research scientists developed the Carbohydrate Addict's Diet and found as long as your other meals are extreme low carb, you can still have the one hour "reward meal" and expect to lose weight.

I found I didn't need the 2 CM's, plus an optional snack, AND the RM. I was doing B, L, and dinner but found once I skipped the breakfast, and brought the lunch CM and RM closer together I actually got LESS hungry and of course lost weight faster!

So now I usually do half the week where I do an RM only, and the other half I do a CM for lunch, and try to have my RM dinner again in anywhere from 4 to 8 hours. It just depends on the day, my hunger level, and of course convenience. I would do it over 5 hours as my perfect time frame but days when I am a work or some issue comes up I can't always have my dinner when I chose.

I do random calorie audits just to see and I eat anywhere from 1800 to 2600 calories a day and am still losing!!!

I definately think IF works. The reason I do the CAD combo with it is that I truely believe I am insulin resistant and eating low carb helps reduce insulin release, and also the meal where I do eat whatever I want (real sugar, alcohol, chocolate, pizza, etc) the body is basically tricked into releasing less insulin surges if you consume it in under an hour. It is a biphasic type release where the body will give you an initial surge based off of previous meals consumed and also again about 75-90 minutes later if you are still eating, snacking or grazing. So if you fasted or ate extremem low carb earlier, the initial wave will be less. If you are done eating in an hour the next surge will also be less.

It really does work! I am less hungry and actually losing weight. I love it since I don't have to count a calorie, restrict food groups, etc. My body has just naturally adjusted to it and I feel naturally full, don't want to binge, have will power, etc. I don't need to graze or snack either. It is very freeing for sure

Hey thank you! I am mainly on the CAD/CALP hangout forum and also the IF one. I am an RN and I love to do research on insulin resistance. I have really found it is not about calories, carbs, fat, etc but how it all affects insulin release. If you can trick your body into releasing less insulin and basically just rearrange the way you eat carbs, at least for me, I can still eat tons of them and lose. Best of all not hungry, sleepy, craving, and lots of other side benefits as well. Insulin is a hormone and once that is in line a bunch of other hormonal issues fall into line as well so there are TONS of benefits besides wathcing the scale go down. Weight loss is slow this way, but again, not about calorie restriction, just letting the body burn it's own fat and more importantly not be storing fat constantly

Scale was a butt this morning... gave me 187.0! I was thinking it would be up though cuz I did a lot of strength training yesterday and am sore and stiff. Plus my sodium was on the higher end too. Calories were 2000.

Been getting a lot of compliments lately from people saying I look like I've lost a lot of weight! Makes me feel good since progress has been so slow...

I don't exercise at all other than normal day to day stuff and one day I was gardening A LOT and was up like 2 pounds for three days afterwards and that was the only difference. I think the muscles must soak up any fluids ingested and hang on to them for all they are worth! Day to day fluctuations are just water but overall trends downward are fat loss which is why I like to do daily wts and then a weekly average. After 2 weeks of doing it that way is when you can really see if you are losing wt. Not from day 1 to day 2, etc. But from week 1's avg from week 2. It can be tedious and drive some people who have scale issues nuts but I have over 5 months of daily wts and have only missed 3 times and those 3 times missing still haunt me that it might have brought my weekly average loss even lower! LOL

You are exactly right Melanie. The stiff & sore muscles will be holding on to some water for a couple days. No worries!

How nice that you're starting to get compliments!

I'm going away for a long weekend with my sister and am hoping not to do too much damage! I'll be back to it come Monday!

Have a great weekend!

Have fun Lori!!

Yesterday went well! Ate about 2000 calories and did all my workouts. TOM surprised me this morning, a little ahead of schedule. Scale was nicer than yesterday. Said 185.8. Still sore today since I've added in more strength training this week.

Didn't weigh this am... I wimped out, I'm so bloated and fingers so swollen my ring was tight this morning. Oh TOM... Also didn't help that I stuffed my face with ground meat yesterday... I love low carb taco salad and I just kept on adding the meat.... thinking calories were 2450 yesterday. High, but at least my workout enabled me to be ok. Planning on calories being lower through the weekend since whatever workouts I do won't be so intense..

I guess if I'm going to have a pms binge, there's worse things than taco meat! Least it was low carb!

You should still weigh in!!! I have mornings too where my fingers are swollen and rings are tight at times TOM or not and I think it is a "morning thing" or something that happens while sleeping. Even sometimes my hands are swollen but I still go down on the scale. Don't be afraid of TOM. After a few months of them when you look back in your logs you can see exactly where your TOM is just based on weekly wts! It will actually help you in the long run to be aware of hormonal shifts in fluid retention and food cravings and not feel like this WOE is failing but be able to recognize it for what it is.

All of us women have to deal with it

Well I weighed in today... 187.2, not bad since my calories yesterday were restaurant calories. Don't know how many they were, I had some almonds and peanuts to tide me over till I got to the restaurant and then I had carnitas, lettuce w/ sour cream, cheese dip, grilled shrimp, then a little coffee later on.

I didn't get my calories logged over the weekend, but I've been good and they should be fine... Yesterday was on the salty side though..

Weighed in this am at 187.4. I'm more than ready to drop back down another 2-3 lbs! Been reading a lot of good stuff in Peter Attia's blog. Love, love, love it!!

Fast #2 of the week today.......I'm doing the 4:3 plan. Monday was a struggle, but today is a breeze so far!

Feeling a bit thinner today, so hopeful that Saturday's weigh in will be a good one.

Hope you're all having a good week!

Good job Lori, I had that thin feeling yesterday!

Yesterday's weigh in was 186.something and today's was 187.2, which is a little irritating since I've been doing good and Tom has hit the road... Granted yesterday was my heaviest strength training day and I ate some of those jalapeno cheddar little smokie sausages that are high in sodium...

Hi all. I'm still here. Up a couple more pounds and now back up to 219. Not sure what the deal is. Do have the new scale which brought me up a couple pounds and now this. Haven't changed anything that I can think of. Will just power through as always. I have been busy with outdoor yard stuff and am switching into garden mode so diet online stuff is taking more of a back seat. I am still here but more in lurking mode.

Melanie, no doubt your heavy weight work out has your muscles hanging onto some water. It'll whoosh out in no time!

MIW...sounds like you are busy! Enjoy your outside work!

Had a good boxing workout at boot camp this morning. Today is an "eating" day on my 4:3 plan, so I'm already thinking about lunch!

Have a good end to your week!

I was wondering. Do you eat the reccomended calories for your diet each day. I was wondering if not why dont people go into starvation mode? I have been trying this some days with 650 calories and not been losing. Everyone says i need to up calories but these posts seem to be of very minimal calories each day.

Most days I eat about 2000+ calories, which a fitness instructor reccomended me doing. I'm a tall girl though and I'm working out hard A LOT! I might try to throw in a couple lower cal days a week though, kind of like a 5:2 with fast 5 thing...

I'm doing a modification of the 5:2 plan. I do 4:3 most weeks. That is, 3 days a week I stick to 500 calories and the other 4 days I eat up to 2000. On my 500 calorie days I also stick to a 5 hr window. I don't eat anything till 2 o'clock in the afternoon and stop by 7PM.

Have a good weekend everyone!

i finish my eating by 9:00 a.m., and i find that i do not have to count calories if i don't eat outside of my "window" which is 5:00-9:00 a.m. whereas, i have a terrible time losing weight on far fewer calories by scattering my meals all over the day.

also, i've finally learned that i canNOT consume any artificial sweeteners outside of that window. sugar free gum and diet pop stalled my weight something fierce. dropping those items has made the biggest impact on my weight loss journey.

Hi Ladies.. I am on day 4 of faithfully doing the Fast 5..was doing the CAD diet but for some reason the weight was stalling and I just decided to try something new....I am still extremely hungry when it comes to waiting for my window but I have not cheated..my window is 1:30- 5:30..from what I have read over time the hunger will decrease

I am finding it hard to know the calories in the dinner meals I make..like I made a chicken dish this week in the crockpot with pasta....I just had a small plate of it for dinner but have no clue really to what the calories were...it had alot of different ingredients in it !! also when we go out to eat I have no idea what the calories are in my meal..tonight we might go out and I will get broiled fish for dinner with sides..how do you all go about adding these calories up ? I know I dont have to on the fast 5 but I think it will help..

i look up the ingredients on-line. i use a postal scale, and divide. i've been counting calories since i was a teenager, so it's kinda second nature. you get better at it with time.

at present, i only count calories for my records, because i don't trust my memory. i'm always tweaking, looking for patterns.

eating out is a different ballgame, unless you can find a counter for your restaurant on-line. before heading out, i plan what i'm going to eat. most restaurants use MSG, which will make you retain water anyway, showing up on the scale.
