There are so many books/articles about different ways of eating/dieting. I really think you can make a case or break a case for every eating plan, if you go by the the "experts" say...(and are they truly experts?) I've decided to rely on myself and my own experiences this time around.
This is so true!! And you never know who the "expert" is actually being paid by, either.

WOE: One meal a day CAD style
Start Date: November 1, 2012
Meals today:

Opened eating window at about 2pm, RM at 7pm:

CM- 2 eggs, small steak, 2 C sauteed cabbage
RM- 8 ropes of Red Vines, bowl of canned Progresso Clam chowder, bowl of rinsed canned green beans.

Let's hope the scale isn't mad at me tomorrow! I took a rare nap after a long hot bath and jumped up to eat- then off back to bed for early rise and work tomorrow.

Good morning...got up and rode my exercise bike this morning. I have my usual food to eat at work today and will go out to dinner with my daughter tonight.

I am wearing a size 10 skirt to work today, and it is too big. Although my scale remains stubborn, my body is definitely changing in a way that I like.

Have a wonderful IF day, my friends!

Hi everyone! I just wanted to check in - it's been a few days since I've been by. Things haven't been working out so fantastically for me since the weekend. We had a very unexpected death in our family in the very early morning hours of Monday morning, and I didn't stick to my plan that day. I weighed yesterday morning, and saw the gain that I expected, and got right back on plan. Today I weighed again and was up another five pounds??? I'm trying to stick to my goal of not being traumatized by my scale - but I'm so stressed out by everything else that is going on that this gain has taken on major significance and seems insurmountable.

Hi Britt, I'm sorry to hear about the death in your family. Sending comforting thoughts to you and your family.

A stressful event can really play havoc on the scales. It's amazing how stress can affect us emotionally AND physically. ((hugs)) Just take good care of yourself right now and don't let the scale get you down.

I'm so sorry, Britt...

I agree with LowCarbRachel - Stress can really do a number(no pun intended) on us, scale-wise. Perhaps staying off it for a week or two will help? I am easily affected by what the scale says, so I have a goal to weigh-in only twice a month. It's tough though, especially when you just want that number to move in your favor!

Sorry Britt. Hang it there. You are so strong to just get righ back on plan the next day and not be deterred. The scale is just a guide, kind of like a suggestion of things going on so it is definately supporting the fact that you have been stressed out. However, it is not permanent and whatever you decide, daily weigh-ins or just chucking it out the window (LOL) keep on keepin' on! We are here for you!

I am proud of myself. Took a friend out for sushi for her b-day yesterday and close to one hour being up I wanted something chocolate like ice cream. They didn't have anymore of their little desserts circulating around and I almost almost almost said, "F it" and went to Dairy Queen for a blizzard knowing I would be over my hour. However I didn't. I realized when I got in the car I had a couple of nice St. Patrick's Day frosted sugar cookies in my lunch bag to bring home from work for the kids. Ate those instead, was in my hour and felt satisfied.

Note to self, don't just keep protein snacks and water on hand for CM's. Keep goodie-carbs on hand in case of sucky RM's needing a dessert!

That's a great story, MIW, and so true!

I had a regular eating day. Window at 10:30 with string cheese and pistachios. Lunch a little later of greek yogurt and blueberries. Snack of apple and peanut butter. Closed the window with three homemade tacos and two chocolate truffles. Worked out this morning even though I was kind of tired and could have easily hit the snooze button over and over again!

Ok, I'll have to see how the overall week goes. Yesterday wasn't exactly CAD and definately NOT CALP!

yesterday's wt 218.5 lbs. today's wt same 218.5 lbs.

Here is what I ate yesterday so maybe someone can tell me if this is more in line with IF and is ok to eat like this?

3pm 1st meal (a CM):
Large salad with blue cheese dsg, steak, half a homemade beef sausage

6:30pm kinda RM, LOL:
was hungry, but not hungry for anything other than dessert:
4 pc of red vines, 2 C ice cream, a oatmeal bar, 1/2 snickers

I didn't gain any weight at least not yet due to that. Also, not hungry this am. I don't plan on making that a babit but honestly all I felt like eating that sounded good was some sweets, but it wasn't in a craving sort of way either. I think maybe because I had eaten such a hardy CM earlier it was just too soon again for my body to eat more meat and veggies? IDK

MIW, technically, you can eat whatever you want in your window. Intermittent fasting is simply having a window of eating and a window of fasting. I love IF because I don't have to follow any author's plan...I can personalize it for ME. When I did a 5 hour window a few years ago, I was actually eating fast food for lunch almost daily and still lost down to 135 pounds!

I personally would probably not do an all desert dinner very often because I'd probably be starving the next morning, and I like to IF with as little discomfort as possible. However, it sounds like you feel good this morning and that you're not having any cravings, so maybe an occasional day of eating this way will work for you. We are our own best experts on what works and doesn't work for each of us personally.

I feel like we have so much freedom to make our own choices in IF, but we need to use the freedom wisely!

I second the comment about having so much freedom of choice on IF, but using it wisely! I'm slowly learning this, 2 weeks in on Fast-5. Occasionally, my second meal is more of a snack food type thing, and I'm not being punished for it so I'd say it's ok ON OCCASION. I'm already seeing a trend in my craving foods of the healthier sort, so I'm just listening to what my body wants--I think it's working.

MIW, your steak and salad sounds good! Blue Cheese dressing is my absolute favorite!!

Ok everyone, it's been awhile. I am now at the end of week 19 and since I cut out the coffees, and am now doing IF along with CAD in a 6-8 hour window (some days a 4-5 hour window!) the weight is coming off and I am less hungry than ever! Still eating tons but just wanted to share. I am back where the Heller's say about you "should" be losing 1/2 to 2 lbs a week. No more gaining/losing same amount with no real budges.

thank you On CAD, the Heller's recommend doing daily wts, then a weekly average to see your "true" weight for the week since day to day there can be so many fluctuations. I have had many weeks where if you follow straight down on say a Monday or Friday, (or whatever) I actually appear to be gaining wt so if I just did a once a week it would frustrate the heck out of me.

I have always been fairly scientific and objective about things, and I'd rather see the overall trend and don't find the scale to be an enemy. In fact, the not knowing would drive me more nuts than seeing the scale go up!

You know what is really astounding about my weight loss? It is with no self deprivation, no calorie counting, no carb counting, etc. That is the whole point. It is not a diet. It is my lifestyle and finally a WOE that can be forever and give me the happiness and health I am after. If I wanted to lose 5 lbs a week I could starve myself but after years of doing that and only getting fatter- HECK NO! LOL

I love the combo of CAD/CALP and IF for insulin control. It is amazing how if you just rearrange your eating habits, you can still actually eat whatever you want, and in whatever amounts and actually lose weight. It is mind boggling! If I wasn't living it I wouldn't believe it! I actually don't mind the weight creeping off (although flying off would be ok too! LOL) since I don't even feel like I am on a diet and I just also happen to be losing weight --what is not to like about this?

The CAD/CALP/IF sounds like the right combination for you! I'm *not* a scientific kinda person, so Fast-5 is as simple as I can get, and it seems to be working--only 2 weeks in so far, so I can't actually say it's working yet, but I feel great!

What is the difference between Fast-5 and The 8 Hour Diet? I figure one is to be done in 5 hours and the other in 8 hours, and I remember something about the 8 hour one having 8 super foods to eat? Also, what was it about getting to have days off from the IF and stuff. Can someone go into more details on those plans? THanks!

Hi! Just a quick check in. I've been sick with a bad cold and had to take two days off work. I love it that I have been able to keep my eating simple and consistent with an 8 hour window and that the exercise has been easy to stay with, too.

Glad to see everyone doing well!

Hello, All! I'm brand new here. I had a baby about a year ago and have yet to lose all the baby weight. Pure laziness on my part. I heard about the 8 hour diet and just by googling it and reading reviews of the book on Amazon, I pretty much got the gist of it and started on March 2. Here I am 10 days later and 6 pounds lighter!!! Now I know myself and I need daily motivation so here i am! lol. I exercise daily, but it's the eating I need to pull back the reigns on. I'm very interested in the fast 5 diet too, but would like to master the 8 hour window before I tackle the 5. Hope to get to know you all! Cheers!

Welcome! I know what you mean about needing motivation and I like the commraderie and is the one thing I always liked about WW. I am doing a combo of CAD/CALP and IF with anywhere from an average 5-8 hour window. I am feeling great, the weight is peeling off again after a plateau on just CAD and it is actually easier to eat less! I am less hungry by skipping food. Weird! LOL It is really all about insulin resistance which CAD also helps so for me the combo is awesome!

Mikeysmama, welcome! we're glad you're here! Congrats on a loss already!

MIW,

Fast-5 is simply a 5 hour window. When I did it, I did 1-6, which gave me room for lunch and dinner.

The 8 Hour Diet is another spin on IF. It's 8 hours of eating; 16 hours of fasting. The author suggests eating 8 superfoods per day, plus suggests 8 minutes of exercise in the morning before opening the window. It's written in a pretty cheesy way but probably a "friendly" welcome to IF for those who don't know anything about it. He claims you can IF three days a week and still lose; I doubt it. I don't recall the super foods off the top of my head, but they might be listed in the 8 Hour Diet thread started by Beeb.

Welcome Mikeysmama, and congrats on your progress so far!!

LowCarbRachel--hope you're feeling better soon!!

MIW--I know what you mean regarding feeling less hungry by skipping food.....Sometimes I feel like I've opened a flood gate when I break my fast, and just can't seem to stop eating! I've extended my fasting period to 21-22 hours a couple times and found it strange that I wasn't really feeling hungry.

I've been an IF-er for over a year, and this is how I start every morning. I buy the Kerrygold Unsalted butter and have that in my morning coffee with CO.

Over time I have naturally fallen into a 18/6 rhythm. I usually eat "breakfast" between noon and 1pm, then a light supper around 4-5pm. I don't really get hungry in the evenings, but if I do I grab a handful of nuts, or a piece of cheese. This works really well for me.

That's a great approach, Sharon. I follow "IF Mike" on Facebook, and he has a really sensible approach of coffee w/coconut oil, lunch, dinner. I love keeping it simple.

I'm back at work today and coughing, ugh. I have a lot to get done by next Wednesday, though, so I need to be here. Just had my apple and peanut butter for "breakfast" and will have yogurt for lunch a little bit later.

Have a good day, all!

Just a quick hello. I'm still sick but on plan. I've skipped my workouts so that I could sleep a little longer in the mornings, but I'll hopefully be back on track with those soon.

WOE: One meal a day CAD style
Start Date: November 1, 2012
I am staying on my combined CAD/IF gig eating just 2 meals a day from 12-6pm range. Sometimes 3-8pm. I have been slowly going up on weight last few days but this is my routine monthly cycle thing so no worries!

Well, it seems that the 8/16 is pretty comfortable now. I find myself usually only eating in a 7 hour window. I think today I might try a 6 hour window
