OMG people this really works! Today I am 213 lbs! I can now say that switching RM to breakfast really does work. I am losing faster and more consistantly the last 2 weeks since I switched RM to breakfast.

The key: be sure to get at least 7 oz of protein (that is quite a bit) otherwise you will be hungry later and maybe even shakey. That happened to me and was why I didn't like it at first. Also, I am sure to really get stuffed. I know sounds like being bingey but it is not. I also strive for balance but if I can't, I do eat another CM later with protein/veggies to be sure I got my veggies in for the day. I have not been hungry almost all day long now. I usually do get some hunger but it is right before going to bed and is totally manageable. I still have tons of energy. I do not eat right when I get up but I am striving to have my RM anywhere from 9-12 and most days now (more common than not) I have not been hungry at all and am doing RM only. I still do random audits and I am getting plenty of calories so I know it is not because I am cutting back.

Just want to share my experience to let others know more about the latest Heller's book The Stress Eating Cure and that doing RM for breakfast is doable and some might find it works better for them than dinner. Find what works for you!

Here are some example weights from the last couple of months and you can see the last 2 weeks have been losing much faster- even day to day. The results speak for themselves!

Week 22- 219.5 219.5 220 220 219.5 218.5 218.5 (219.36) +1.22

Week 23- 216 215.5 217 217.5 216.5 215 215 (216.07) -3.29
***(This week is when I went from 2 CM's and RM over 10-14 hour period down to 1 CM and an RM or RM only some days over the course of 4-8 hours of eating)

Week 24- 215.5 X X 217 215.8 216.8 217.4 (216.5) +0.43

Week 25- 215.5 217 216 217 217.6 217.8 215.8 (216.67) +0.17

Week 26- 218.2 X 219 217.8 219.2 218.2 X (218.5) +1.81
***(TOM and eating more over 10 hours again)

Week 27- 217 216.6 216 216.6 217 217.8 219 (217.14) -1.36

Week 28- 217.6 217 216.6 216.6 217 217.6 217 (217.06) -0.08

Week 29- 216.2 216.8 214.6 215.8 215.8 216.2 216.2 (215.9) -1.12

Week 30- 215.4 214.8 213
***(Starting during week 28 consistent with eating RM earlier and most days are RM only except when at work then I do CM lunch and RM dinner)

MIW
(BTW I am doing a combo of CAD/CALP, IF, and SEC/BB)

Had a lunch work today. I'm glad that I do IF because it's flexible. Although I usually eat the same foods during the week, I can do a variation, too.

I had yogurt for breakfast, and lunch was a salad with chicken, cilantro lime dressing, black beans, a little bit of rice, and a few tortilla chips. I'll probably be full until dinner, so I just won't snack this afternoon.

Yes, I like the flexibility as well and really do feel so much better since eating over a shorter of period of time. I think my body was naturally designed to have rest periods. I think it is good to be open and try new things to see if it works or not. If you hand't left the CAD group and I didn't follow you to see what you were up to I wouldn't have really even stumbled on to IF and figured out that is how Rachael Heller lost 150 lbs as I focused on the content of their books and the results of the people they studied and never even thought to try what she did herself. I find it actually works very well for me and my particular body. Plus if I want- I can always eat more and have additional meals because eating this way is so flexible and really does work!

CAD works if you eat early and have one meal a day.

Yes, the most important thing: don't give up! Don't ever give up! That's where all of my diets/attempts to maintain weight loss have gone wrong in the past.

You just have to find something you can do over and over again and not stop doing it.

No quitting!

Hi everyone! Are the other IF'ers still out here? I am still going strong and am probably the most extreme faster here. Most days I continue to do a 23 hour fast and tohers a 4-8 hour eating window. I am still loving not being hungry, eating exacty what I want and not worrying about portion control. Weight is still coming off slow and steady and all with virtually zero effort other than making sure I eat my carbs only one hour a day, spacing meals out at least 90 minutes apart and making any other meals protein and veggies only. Works great!

I'm here, lol. I will always be here.

The great thing about IF is that there is room for many different approaches. We no longer have to rely on a diet book to tell us exactly what to do. We can take knowledge from different people and combine it together into something that works for us. I believe the only true way to maintain a weight loss is by developing our own customized ways of sustainable and long term eating.

No new weight loss since last week, and I did go a little crazy at dinner last night. We went out to a place that has the BEST gluten free pizza, and I ate a whole 8" pizza by myself. I was full after half of it, but it was so good that I couldn't stop eating. That usually doesn't happen for me! I'll have to make sure not go to there too often.

Yes, I am totally understanding that each body has it's own metabolism and you have to find the right plan or even hybrid of plans. That is what I have been doing over the last 8 months and am slowly seeing what works, and what doesn't. I think most diet books should be a jumping off point for people instead of getting discouraged if it doesn't work as well keep that parts that do and go on a learn other ways to tweak eating habits until it sticks!

I also found an awesome pizza place but it is ultra expensive and Hubby doesn't like it much but I would go everyday if it were up to me! They actually have me liking thin crust pizzas! LOL

Just a quick hello! I had a bad reaction to gluten two weeks ago, and it's slightly thrown me off my plan. I am keeping it simple and not quitting, but I noticed my hunger levels going up.

I am going to stay on top of this, but I just thought I would note it in writing to keep me accountable. I do not want to go down the slippery slide again. I have found myself overeating (past full) for a couple of nights...not stopping when I am full.

I'm not doing a fasting plan by any means since I have to have something to eat in the a.m. or else I get sick (I'm not diabetic or hypoglycemic) but I do notice that when I sleep in on the weekends and weigh myself first thing, I lose more weight. This has to be due to fasting longer. I don't drink coffee and tea doesn't do the trick so I'm not sure how to incorporate IF unless I do a shorter window such as 10-12 hours.

I did read Dr. Rosedale's plan and besides the fruit rule (I have to have my fruit to stay sane), I'm already following it to almost the T. I have so many food allergies/intolerances and one of them is cane sugar (out of 100 other allergies) so I decided 6 weeks ago to get strict. So far, so good...

RM stands for reward meal as we follow with the Carbohydrate Addicts Diet. There is a thread we are on if you are interested.

This is about intermittent fasting. Oriana meant that she (and MW) follow CAD. CAD can be considered a form of intermittent fasting, as can many other approaches, including doing a 10 or 12 hour fast!

I see you LC your way! Me too! LOL

Yes, I follow Cabohydrate Addict's Diet and use the principles from that way of eating along with Intermittent Fasting. For CAD, you can eat low carb meals referred to as Craving Reducing Meals or Complimentary Meals (CM's) and one meal that can contain carbs called a Reward Meal (RM). The kicker is you have to eat your meals within one hour. This has to do with insulin resistance and biphashic release of insulin, plus to keep a person from binging on carbs.

I use that approach along with IF and make sure I eat my meals at least 90 minutes apart, and usually 3-7 hours apart. In fact most days I only eat during one hour and fast the other 23! Of course I make sure it is my RM and to have plenty of carbs that I want. I eat 1800-2600 calories a day and 100-160 gms of carbs daily during my random audits. Slowly I have lost 22 pounds over 8 months just by rearranging how I eat my carbs and limiting them to the one hour period. I started losing even faster when I combined IF along with CAD.

There are many ways to do IF. Some you can eat what you want and graze during your entire eating window, others follow low carb during an eating window, some do CAD/CALP, really the options are limitless!

Hello all - I'm following the 5:2 diet which is now all the rage over here in Ireland and the UK...I had a great initial loss of 10 pounds in about a month...then life got in the way (my FIL had a fall and we nursed him for 3 weeks round the clock and then he sadly passed away...2 days after his funeral my brother got married!! So to say the least things have been difficult)

I'm still down 5 pounds and am starting back at the 5:2 diet with a fast tomorrow - this consists of 2 500 calorie days and then basically I work with an 8 hour window the rest of the days.

I'm also starting back at the gym tomorrow...need to get my running shoes back on...I'll hopefully hang out here with you guys and update my stats here with like minded folks

Wow, sounds like it is working good for you. How does the 500 calorie days work out? Do you do them consecutively or can you decide any day of the week to make them the 500 calorie days? Sounds a bit like JUDDD just in an eating window period.

Also, how is hunger? I love it that once I combined the woe I follow along with IF I actually got LESS hungry by cutting out a meal. I am now down to eating whatever I want during a one hour period most days and not feeling hungry one bit the other 23! I found however for my body it is best to eat mid-day to early evening otherwise if I did eat my large carby meal earlier in the day like for breakfast it was making me hungry right around bedtime.

One RM today for me. Major stuff-fest. But after a couple of hours I felt fine and it is now almost bedtime and I feel full and happy!

I ate from about 1pm-2pm:

4 C salad with mushrooms, black olives, 2 cherry tomatoes, cucumber, mixed greens, sprinkles of shredded cheddar
Olive oil and 3 TBSP ranch dsg
2 Salmon patties with slice of pepper jack cheese, red onions, tomato
10 pc of mixed california style sushi
20 oz ice decaf vanilla caramel with whole milk (no whip! yuck)
2 large donuts

I am calling this The Large Lunch Diet. I can go all morning and not be hungry and then around 11-2 in that range get hungry, eat my one hour RM and be fine for another 23 hours. Loving it. No hunger at all, eating PLENTY of great veggies, protein, and my favorite carbs in ample amounts. I also drink plenty of fresh water the rest of the day as well.

I have noticed I tend to do one part veggies, one part protein/fats, and 1-2 parts carbs and am still losing weight. I will ride this as long as I can! That is it

MIW, I love it! That sounds so great!

Is IF healthy? Well, apparently so! I will be 47 in October. I went to the doctor last week because I wasn't feeling great (was having some chest pains, turned out just to be a pulled muscle...)...and they did an EKG (perfect), chest xrays (perfect), and complete blood panel (all perfect). Even my blood pressure, which always runs a little high at the doctor's office, was almost perfect (so close, lol.) And, I've been told that my weight is just right, and that maintaining this weight is a really healthy choice for me.

Boy, it feels good to hear that this is working and that I am at a really good healthy place. I'm going to just stay with what I've been doing and no longer "worry" about whether or not the scale goes down another ounce. If it does, then it does, but if not, I'm happy to maintain a size 8.

Have a great upcoming week, my friends!

That is awesome and good for you for sticking to what you believe in and to get validation as well!

I was just at a family picnic today and of course had to defend my one meal a day WOE to a family member who could easily lose 100 lbs herself. "Oh I have heard you should be eating 6 small meals a day spaced out. That doesn't sound healthy to eat only once a day." I basically had to explain that I have thoroughly researched IF and IR and that the "modern medical model" of nutrition has damned our nation to the sickest and fattest it's ever been so if she wants to follow current nutritional advice for the mainstream to go right ahead!

I also explained about ancient man and the IR metabolism which is designed to be uber-efficient at storing fat and was meant to be a feast/famine or gorge/starve type of WOE because there aren't grocery stores and AMPM's and Taco Bell's on every corner out in the wild. So man basically evolved gorging on dead carcasses, the lucky hunt kill, or the lucky berry patch find and then spent the other 20-23 hours a day (or several days) fasting until they came upon the next food find. I am really digging how great I feel only eating once a day and packing full of foods and calories. It is the other 23 hours a day of ZERO HUNGER and feeling great, full of energy, losing weight, etc that keep me eating this way, NOT the one hour of eating I get to do!

Even though I was up 1.6 pounds last week my overall average for this month from last month was a 1.6 loss so I am not going to be deterred! The only thing I have changed recently is the time of day I am eating my one and only meal which is RM and I think my metabolism is just figuring out what to do with the change.

I just found this thread and am working my way through it. There is lots of great info! I am doing an 8-hour window while also doing HCG. The HCG protocol only allows two meals, so I just make sure they stay within the window. I just finished Week 1 of this round and I really think my losses have been better than HCG alone. I really love how I feel when I'm IF. I am reading 8-Hour Diet right now, just to get more of the background on how it works.

Yes I am reading the 8 Hour Diet too and I just got done reading both The Stress Eating Cure by the Hellers' (Who wrote Carbohydrate Addict's Diet) and The Big Breakfast Diet. It is funny how the 8 Hour diet book has science that counteracts what is in teh BB diet and SEC as those suggest eating your big meal and carbs for breakfast where 8 Hour diet says better results to fast in the am and eat later! LOL I think it is just best to find what works best FOR YOU and if you are not hungry, not craving, and losing weight then it doesn't matter what you eat or when as long as it works!
