Good morning

Weight is a bit up this morning, but not too bad, my sodium intake was a bit higher than usual, or "as ususal" LOL

Sharss...I eat pretty much like you, I love my lean meats, mainly chicken and turkey and can eat that every day, or fish! Tons of salads and green vegetables, cucumbers and tomatos. I try to stay away from white flour, sugar and processed foods as much as possible, would LOVE to eat oatmeal and whole grain breads but they give me major GI problems, so I'm sticking with what makes my body feel good!
Way to go on the pound lost! Losing OR maintaining is GOOD!

My weight is also up a pound. Sat. calories the same as Friday, but...ate my bad you know what food. Went to Safeway to get bottled water and the friggin' box was just staring me in the face. At least not up two pounds like last week.

Also didn't get my exercise in. Did the warm up and something came up so didn't get the workout done. Was going to skip today, but since yesterday was blown, will do today.

Erika...You do better than me because you eat your green vegetables. I hate vegetables except for green beans and spinach so I'd better shape up with at least those two. I do the salads too.

Ok, I'm wishing myself a 71 years young today!

Now, I didn't give myself a birthday gift as weight is up - with same approximate calories eaten. Sodium sure does havoc with our weight, but it's a false weight. Didn't exercise yesterday as planned either.

Postponed chiropractor appt for today as one daughter sent gift Priority and have to stay home to sign for it.

Hi Tay65, to the thread, we're all in the same boat, but on different ways of battling the bulge. I'm counting calories along with counting carbs. I also fast 2 time a week,so far it helping until I go out restaurant eat ing with my friends.

I don't count carbs, but I limit them. Like sugars, potatoes, noodles... I try not to eat that stuff too often. And fried foods don't agree with me.
I also fast a couple days. At least try to stay under 600 calories.

Don't forget, not eating enough can also cause a gain. Your body thinks its not going to be fed so it holds onto everything you eat. Its tricky!

Tay65...Thanks for the tip! BUT, I lost 90 pounds last year, averaging under 1000 calories and I lost weight every single week, until I started to make the weightloss thingy more complicated than it really is. I started looking into BMRs, TDEEs, eat more to lose more...That was in September, coincidently I haven't lost any weight since then, my weight has actually gone up from my lowest 165 lbs back into the 170s, so I know it's time to crack down on those calories if I want to lose a few more pounds.

Erika, I agree. Keep it simple. You must be like me. I have to drop pretty low to lose also. Mostly around 1000 calories because I'm not active at all.

Tay65-I have to count carbs in order keep them at least under 100 carbs per day. I used to think when I saw on other weight loss plans where fasting was a part of there program I would never be able to do this,but I was wrong that 2 a wk I can manage doing so.

ERIKA-Hope you correct I'm praying for this as I like to get out of the 150's and get back to the 140's where I was 20 years ago.

To answer your question about calories, Erika, I run between my low of 1140 and highest of 1478. However, many meals are open to my estimation which I usually will estimate on the higher end. Not happy about the scale, but hopefully weight will be normal by Thurs.

Tay65ÖI think what youíre saying about calories may pertain to me because Iíve noticed at times my weight has gone down when my calories the day before were on the higher end. And weight has stayed the same when calories on lower end. Gosh, our bods like to confuse us.

Like you, Iím not active either. Thatís why Iím trying to be consistent with exercising. However, I canít seem to stay or even get to the 1000 calorie level. I could if I did Atkins, but donít want to lose that way because I gain it all back. Trying to be careful with calories, but keeping within a eating pattern/fitness program I will use after I reach my goal. Having said that, donít know if that will do the job, but I'll give it another month.

MaryannÖGood luck on the last two days! Youíve sure hung in there and done a great job, just donít go out to eat until Feb 1.

Good morning ladies!

I am beyond happy today, I actually got to take a glimpse at the 160s again I guess it paid off to switch my nightly cheese snack to a couple of diet hot chocolates. I also set my calorie counter to 1000, if I want more food I will have to work for it. I do walk for 30 minutes on my lunch break, been doing that, but I added my gazelle back in, 15 minutes before work and 30 minutes on the weekend. I can't wait for spring to arrive so I can get outside and be a little more active, not go to bed at 6 PM and think of what can I eat next

I've lost 2.4 lbs! Now I know for sure I need to keep the calories around 1000. I'm starting out good, just have to stick to my calories.

At least scale finally going down. Body Sculpt is scheduled for today, but am hoping to get in some extra cardio to at least get down to my lowest base weight by tomorrow. BTW, my digital scale only shows lb or 1/2 lb.

tay65...You should have started weighing in a few days ago because you've lost more than I have over two/three weeks.

Erika...Your upping your exercise level paying off plus your night time snack change.

Joannew...You bet jump in!

Maryann...Of course it's water retention. You would have had to eat 6000 more calories if it was really real weight gain. I hope you're writing your meals down in a journal. Perhaps that would help to see what is going on with your water retention.

I know you mentioned how you lost weight before, but just maybe your bod is requiring something different. If what you're doing isn't working, maybe try the calories in/calories out way of eating. Maybe your bod wants a more regular type of diet, but watching calories. ??? Just a suggestion.

OR maybe your bod will simply show UP before the next drop DOWN. Look for a pattern. Week 1 Drop, Week 2 you Maintained and then dropped down the next week. Having a short week isn't helping, but I bet by the end of the week (2/2) you'll be down to 152.

This is why it's important to look at our weight loss/fitness as a journey - what is it that will work for us and how we'll be able to maintain when our goal is reached.

Well it looks like my little changes are working! The scales have been really good to me this week and I am very pleased! I am pretty sure though it will slow down a lot since all the water weight should be gone now...

Joanne...Thank you! It seems that changing the calorie counter is doing the phsycological trick for me...so far...It seems a great idea to do 5:2, once I can get this body under control I might try that myself!


Maryann...No worries, like sharss said it is all water, we can retain so much fluid for so many different reason! It'll flush out soon enough, you'll see!

Tay65...Way to go! I always believe in calories in...calories out!

Sharss...Thank you! It seems that my body really doesn't care what I snack on when in bed, it has been very happy and satisfied with the hot chocolate...which has sooooo many less calories than cheese! LOL
I am sure your weight fluctuations come with the exercise, muscles also retain a lot of water to repair themselfs!

I am tracking EVERY BITE from now on....If I bite it, I write it! (learned from WW!) and it sure does make you think before you eat something!
I decided to eat within a 4-5 hour window and once the window is closed, so is my mouth!

I do a "window" too. I just started it so I've started at 8 and I'm going to cut an hour a week until I get to between 5-6 hours comfortably.

Today is a fasting day. I don't do complete fasts though. I keep my calories to a bare minimum.
I ate chinese yesterday, so guess what happened? My 2 lb loss is back! I know it'll be gone in a couple days with alot of water drinking. Gotta love chinese food.

I'm not really liking this shortened week. Overall I've only lost two pounds for the month of January when my goal was one pound a week.

However, the great news for me is the increase in my fitness level which I'm thrilled about. In one of my posts I mentioned how when I started with Kelly's "Start Here" dvd, I couldn't even make it through the 5 minute warm up without pausing a couple of times. Now, not only can I keep up with Kelly during the Warm Up, but also now during the Body Sculpt! Can't keep up with her during the cardio, but it'll come.

This may not seem impressive to many, but does to me because when I was at my daughter's over Thanksgiving and we'd be going here and there, my heart rate and labored breathing was terrible just from walking. So yes, I'm excited!

I comtemplated dropping out of this thread for Feb. since my weight loss doesn't show that much progress and my fitness level is my priority right now, but I'll hang in there through Feb.

Week One== LOST 1 LB THIS WEEK[136.5/135.5]

Week Two==MAINTAINED THIS WEEK[135.5/135.5]

Week Three==LOST 1 LB THIS WEEK[135.5/134.5]

Week Four ==LOST 1LB THIS WEEK[134.5/133.5]

Week Five == Gained 1LB THIS SHORTENED WEEK [133.5/134.5]

January: Goal Lose 4 Pounds/Lost 2 Pounds

Week Five
Sunday 1-27 = 134.5
Monday 1-28 = 135 (Body Sculpt)
Tuesday 1-29 = 135 (Cardio)
Wednesday 1-30 = 134 (Body Sculpt)
Thursday 1-31 = 134.5 (Cardio planned)

Erika...Thanks for your input. Although I knew about the muscles tearing and repairing, somewhere along the line I missed the retention of water for that repair. Since I was up all night, I googled and read a lot about that issue. On one of the Forums I checked out where others were wondering about weight gain when working out, this one gal was royally ticked. I had to laugh when she said "How many times can there be the same two pound up and down?"

However, I also did learn that the day will come when that stops happening.
Erika, another congrat on your January stats!

tay65 Ya, that Chinese food will do you in. When at daughter's over Thanksgiving, we went out to dinner. I had my choice between Chinese and Mexican. I choose the Fat over Salt. Mainly because I had just gotten over working to lower my BP.

Joannew...Don't understand the 5 hour window concept???

Joanne and Sharss...Thanks...BUT...All this weight lost is just water weight, I am right back at where I started on January 1st, 168 pounds. ONE restaurant outing had me up to 179 pounds and it took until today for all that sodium to finally flush out! Basically I haven't lost anything since September, everytime I get down to 168/167 there is some outing and it throws me back at least 3 weeks, and of course eating way too many calories on the other days doesn't help much either...

Joanne...Off to a GREAT start I see!!!

I am hoping for a better February, hoping that I can get my grazing under control so I can finally claim a REAL loss!

Sharss...You are so right, this is not all about losing the weight, it is also about improving our health, and you should be proud of what you have accomplished! AND...I'd hate to see you leave us!!

Tay65...I LOVE chinese food, I mean I LOVE IT! I could live of that stuff, BUT I have been avoiding it like the plague, my last chinese meal had me retain 9!!! pounds of water...hmmmm...on the other hand 99 restaurant had me up 11 pounds in one sitting...I guess I'm just one big sodium sponge I'm having some chicken broth with my cabbage today so I might weigh in 10 pounds heavier tomorrow

Maryann...I hope you are ok up there at the Cape, I know we had some horrible storms come through here last night! Many power outages and down trees in the area, it was so bad I actually thought we had another tornado come trough!
