I had to take sugar back off my menu. Both days it left me jittery, anxious and wanting to eat a few hours after RM. I'm glad it works for so many of you, but not me. I believe I could do potatoes if I want carbs, but not sugar.

I did for 2 months but can't say I noticed any difference in anything one way or the other. It occurs natural in cheese, red wine, black pepper. I eat a lot of cheese and black pepper!

This just shows the craving reducing ability of this diet. I made donuts this morning, jelly filled, glazed , powdered, and chocolate glazed, I have not even licked a finger

You know you are doing everything right when food laying around just looks to you like any other objects like a book on a shelf or a vase on the mantle. It will be like a switch goes off "ding!" hunger, then "ding" no hunger. I love it!

We have apples, apples and more apples. I have to find what to do with them.
Applesauce with stevia powder is pretty good....

I realized it was almost 11 today before I actually got really hungry, I can totally feel the difference between real hunger, and I want that hunger. I also realized I absolutely dont need sugar or cream in my coffee. As for apples, I adore cooking some down, with cinnamon..no sugar even and putting them on greek yogurt..mmmmmm

I have been using stevia powder in my applesauce. Works good. I find I use food when I am trying to work thru a mental block or energy lapse. Then I start getting hungry again because I have insulin started again. Grrr!

Seems to crazy to me, but I worked out less, ate way more during my RM, I wasnt even balanced during my RM 50 percent of the week, and I lost a pound, seems like it cant be real, if it stays off I will be shocked. I even had a midnight dazzler from Haagan dazs...its something like 1200 calories ir something crazy.

Isn't that wonderful! I know I could NEVER do that on WW or counting calories!

My weekly update is I have not lost any more pounds or inches but my face, neck and around my collar bone are smaller. Also my wrist is smaller and my wedding ring is way looser, which this is not my original wedding ring b/c I was on the CAD when I got married and was way smaller. But I FEEL so much better and I'm eating better and more of it!

You did tell me, I reluctantly tried it, went crazy with it even, and it worked, after years of low calorie and getting nowhere. I had even told myself my metabolism must just be so bad I have to starve to lose, apparently thats not the case

Hey oriana kept telling me and I didn't believe her either at first. She is 105 pounds and runs 15-25 miles a day but she told me she GAINED eating nothing but fruit and running but would lose eating ribeye steaks and haagen das ice cream and not running. I am eating MORE CALORIES and losing. It is possible .

I had my calories upped to 1500..wasn't quite ready to make the jump to 1800. I went 2646 over my weekly goal, (told you I am obsessive), which put my daily average to just over 1800 lol....and I lost...ok, I bow to you lol.

I need to do this with out the junk I had this weekend, I enjoyed it but it was not healthy. I made fried chicken and hushpuppies, I had ice cream and taco bell..the rest of the days I was incorporating more mayo, olive oil and dairy to get my calories up

I have to agree. I go over the top sometimes and balance it out others. I know for a fact I am eating a bit more "junk" than I used to, but I am eating A LOT more good stuff regularly than ever. A LOT more fresh fruits, vegetables, and good solid protein. I have also upped my fat which defies the standard diet logic of fat being too high in calories for the volume (supposedly) but to STILL lose weight?

It was a slow progression for me and I know I am eating more than ever and the weight is still regularly coming off. I am not sure if it is slowly powering up my metabolism or not but I will ride this as long as possible before I start to cut back!

WOE: One meal a day CAD style

Ok all, I officially ended ONE YEAR following CAD/CALP and combo with intermittent fasting. Once I met other people doing Rachael Heller's original way to lose weight by eating only one meal a day I slowly evolved my own eating patterns to that. I make sure to keep to the one hour rule. I am up to about 5 days a week with truely only one meal a day. The other 2, maybe 3 days I do end up having a CM if I need it. I do not force myself to eat the one meal a day. It is my natural hunger that guides me. The days I do get hungry again I will go ahead and have the CM. I also the last 3 months have switched to eating my RM in the morning and try to have it in by 9am according to The Big Breakfast Diet which was heavily cited by the Heller's in their book The Stress Eating Cure.

So now I am doing a combo of CAD/CALP, BBD, SEC, and IF- WOW!!! My personal eating plan is a one hour, total day's supply of calories, at least 7 ounces of protein, and consumed by 9am, balanced of protein/fat, veggies/fruits, and carbs (or at least my ratio that I found I can lose well on). Sounds complicated but is very easy and doeable. I sleep well with no full belly, have seen better results as well with ring being loser, just "appearing" thinner even though weight loss is still slow with a monthly avg of about 1/4 to 1/2 pound a week eating like this.

I did start out following CALP as written. I still avoid MSG, anything SF/AS in it, caffeine (even decaf) outside of my RM hour. I have experimented A LOT in the last year with RM for dinner, RM for lunch, then RM for breakfast. I follow many of the CALP "options" and even tried the GTF chromium for 2 months then went off and did not track any noticeable slow down in weight loss. I try to eat lots of cheese and fresh ground black pepper for natural sources of GTF chromium as the Heller's explained. I "aim" for balance at RM's with the 1/3 protein/fat, 1/3 low carb veggies, 1/3 carbs of my choice. However, along my journey in the last year I discovered I can still eat 1 part protein/fat to 2 parts low carb veggies and 2 parts carbs and still lose!

I probably was only eating about 1300-1500 calories a day the first couple of months but slowly started learning more about intermittent fasting and high calorie weight loss and actually increased my caloric intake but followed "the rules" of CAD and do intermittent fasting enough days of the week that it actually makes me less hungry and able to tolerate the amount of calories I currently eat and still see results.

I eat most days anywhere from 1800-2300 calories. 100-300 gms of carbs. A typical meal consists of this:

1 Large Ribeye Stead

24 ounce Blender Bottle fruit smoothie made from 1 banana, one orange, 1/2 a large apple, 1 Cup each of green grapes, red grapes, and strawberries. 1 Cup of full fat yogurt. I use "Cream Top" by Brown Cow which is 9gms of fat per serving.

12-16 ounces of an ice cream milkshake made with 2-3 cups of regular fat/sugar ice cream, 1/2 to 1 cup of regular half & half, and a Star Buck's Via thrown in for coffee flavoring.

5 chocolate chip cookies

Some days also add a 4 to 6 cup salad of mixed baby greens and 4 TBSP of regular Hidden Valley Ranch.

It may seem over the top to eat all that in one meal but I found I is doable, I do not feel stuffed like I am after a typical Thanksgiving meal. The full feeling last ALL DAY long and I am getting awesome tastey foods day in and day out!

My personal opinion on this WOE, sprinkled with hours of research on insulin resistance, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, syndrome X, hyperinsulinemia is that it isn't so much about the calories but is about minimizing insuin surges the rest of the day. Also about surpressing some of the other hormones like cortisol while raising and maintaing seratonin. There are suggestions by the Heller's and Dr. Jacobowitz in the BBD book and SEC book so I slowly encorporated those.

I only want to share my story of the past year and what has worked for me. I have only been off plan a total of 10 days (or less) in the last year. I learned that it took me 17 days to take off the weight from 4 days off plan! I learned that it can take 2 days for the result of a cheat day to show up on the scale. My point is that being off plan can serve a purpose too in the scientific method of learning about my own personal metabolism.

One thing about this diet, it gives you the tools to figure out what works for you..aka..lack of hunger and cravings. On a traditional "diet", you feel deprived in some way, either hungry, or unsatifying meals. I know for myself, I do not want my RM at breakfast, and I do feel the need for at least one CM a day, 90% of the time 2. We can tweak and switch the plan to work for us as individuals. I don't know that I will continue to lose , but I have the patience to ride it out and see what happens.

Cy, keep up the good work. I too was a starver. Can you post what you are eating? Isn't it great that you don't have to starve?

sure Oriana, Breakfast is usually around 9, I love spinach, so I usually make an omlette with spinach and cheese, if not I make devilled eggs and have some cream cheese filled celery with it

Lunch I a lot of times have either a turkey or salmon burger, bunless of course. I will make a cabage slaw to go with it, or fennel, or green beans. I will once a week or so walk to the Subway and get a chopped salad, I love them, I add my own dressing, Kens creamy ranch, caesar or blue cheese. I also love tuna, so tuna salad and some celery some times

My RM is all over the place, I am not terribly balanced. I am not a person who likes to be stuffed full. Last night was two teriyaki grilled thighs, stuffing, cucumbers, and I ate one of my homemade glazed donuts(the donut was to much for me I think, I was hungry last night). I usually have protein, lots of veges, and a normal side..aka baked potato, rice, pasta etc. I end most Rm's with a few dark chocolate kisses. On the weekends I will go out with the family and have what ever..last weekend was taco bell and some ice cream. I should be more balanced, but I am just enjoying all the things I couldn't have on low calorie lol

So Cy, you are not having the BB in the morning? I'll bet you would be able to eat even more and lose faster if you did. I totally get the eating with family thing though. That is the hardest part of the BB Diet is not being able to do that except for the Saturday free day. I love that you are losing on more calories though. How cool is that!

No, I don't want a Big Breakfast. I don't want this to be another "diet" for me. I want it to be a for like plan, so if I lose slowly, I am ok with that. I like eating with my family, even if I never lose another pound..I am not gaining, and I can live like this..not feeling deprived

I think it is great. I love that we can do whatever we want on this. I think eating with your family is what you ought to do and what works for you is what you are doing. You go girl!!! Isn't it grand!!!!!!!

Cy, what kind of dieting have you done? I was a raw food fruitarian person. I went on lots of fruit diets and 800 calories a day. I would eat one meal and gain 3 pounds overnight after starving. It was unbearable. I would avoid outing and social eating occasions too. I tried Atkins for a week but couldn't stick with it. I went into anorexic mode in my teen years and it messed up my metabolism and that is why this is so amazing. You don't have to lose hope if you have a messed up metabolism. This fixes it!

I was anorexic and bulimic for 7 years...so skinny, but so gross. I did atkins for a few years, lost and maintained..switched to weight watchers..kept the weight off but lived on "free" soup and popcorn because the calories were so low. I have tried the calorie counting the last couple years..took me a year to lose 10lbs eating 1300 calories and exercising daily. I can lose on any diet as long as I stick to it..the problem is sticking to it when your so freakin hungry lol. The best diet I was on...pregnant and nursing at the same time, my god, I couldn't eat enough lol
