I have a question, and depending on your answer, I might have a problem. I was reading through the book last night (it's been ages since I opened it) and it says "low carb and low fat" Cm's. I thought it was just LC for the Cm's and not low anything else. It's confusing cause they are using whole eggs, regular bacon, etc.

Do they just mean "low added fat"? Still, I wonder if I would enjoy this if I have to do it low fat. How are you all doing it and how is it working for you?

Thanks.

I have not been doing low-fat at all! I was under the assumption that we did not have to do low-fat. Now I can't wait to hear others' answers. eek!

But how have your losses been, Andrea? How long have you been on this plan?

I just finished my third week yesterday. I averaged out at a 5.5 pound loss over that time.

That's pretty good numbers! Another thing that I think will end up being a problem for me with this plan is the coffee notion. I drink coffee all morning/early afternoon and it's not in association with a meal. In fact, I don't enjoy drinking a hot beverage with meals. It's only in between meals that I want something like that. If I can't have any calories in between meals, I'm screwed out of my coffee.

I just wish I could find the perfect plan for ME! Ya know? Something that I know I can live with and on for the rest of my life, with exceptions built-in for special occasions. I know I can not live a perfect existence and so the plan I do has to be fairly forgiving.

I know what you mean. I would love something perfect for me. So far, this plan is perfect for me - just worried that I will fail for some reason. Like I will do everything right and still not lose weight.

Just a thought - since this "diet" seems too good to be true, maybe you should give it a try and continue to drink your coffee and see how you do. Not everyone is the same. Also, have you considered finding a way to tweak your coffee so that it has no calories? I would say it is definitely worth a try to do that too, considering there is extreme flexibility with the RM and you can eat whatever you want at that time (which I don't think you will find with any other plan - ever)

I need cream in my coffee. Not even milk, but cream. I used half and half but that's as close to milk as I can go. I can live with one oz of that cream in each cup but less than that seems like too little.

I'll go ahead and start tomorrow and see how it goes, and I'll keep drinking the coffee as I have been. One of the other challenges will be to actually have three meals per day. I have so little structure to my eating that this will also be something very different for me.

My normal pattern is to sleep late, get up and have a couple mugs of coffee with HnH and Ez Sweetz. Not really eat until around dinner (or late afternoon,) then eat something substantial. (I'm not on any particular plan right now so that could be anything in the world.) My real time to eat is late night. I like to go to sleep with a full belly. Maybe that's why my belly is so big!

I guess it is high-time to learn to have more structure and balance in my life. Flying by the seat of my pants is what has gotten me back in the 210 lb range. I had gotten as low as 159 in September of '11. It's been up-up-UP ever since then. I don't know why or what triggered me to head back in the direction from whence I came and I wish I could figure it out, get past it and keep going on my journey.

I guess I could try to switch to herbal teas. I don't need cream in those.

WOE: healthy lower carb meals - no snacking
Hi CherylB---I'm not sure of the low fat CM's, because I eat VLC CM'S and not worry too much about fat. At dinner I eat a well balanced meal, but include something that may have been forbidden on other plans. (fruit, desert, starch)

The best thing for me on CAD is that I truly understand what hunger feels like and I'm not in a constant state of craving. I feel like a normal person. I enjoy my low carb CM's like when I was on a low carb plan, and then I get to eat with the rest of the world for dinner/dessert. I have only changed my RM once to lunch when my grandmother cooked and I couldn't pass up some favorites. I like that flexibility too.

I drink my coffee with cream in the morning and haven't felt the need for it throughout the day like I used to. I've had success with this so far, a little over 4 weeks. I haven't eaten one thing after dinner since starting CAD. That is a victory that I thought I could never accomplish. Before bed eating was a bad behaviour of mine.

I wish you the best in finding what is right for you, Very Low Carb was right for me at first to jumpstart my weightloss, but I had to switch because my cravings were getting the best of me.

I had to know the right way to eat wheat/sugar without feeling guilt and sabotaging me!

Thank you ladies for helping to answer my questions. I'm going to give it a go. I'll do it like they say in the book and have no snack in the first two weeks. Most likely it will be dinner that I use as my RM, but like you said, it's nice to be able to make that meal any one that I need it to be that particular day.

I'm going to start tomorrow. Wish me luck! Can't wait to be back in the saddle. I miss wearing my former clothes. The time for winter fat-clothes is fast coming to an end and I really don't know what I will be able to wear once Spring finally arrives. I'm feeling some pressure about it. Maybe that pressure will get me moving in the right direction once more.

Have a great day, ladies. Glad to be here with you. Can't wait to begin reporting victories!!

CHERYLB----I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK WITH CAD! I can't wait to hear how you are doing and your successes.

I look forward to my RM----and not one ounce of guilt goes into it. I enjoy my CM's too, but it's so fun to plan a real world meal.

Cheryl, Welcome! I am so glad you found us. Don't worry one bit. This diet is for life for a lot of us and once everything falls into place you will feel the same.

I was a big-time coffee person. I have my own esspresso machine at home, and even was a Barista before I became a nurse. Drinking coffee (iced mochas and the like) was one of my Carbohydrate Addictions.

I will say this: you "should" be able to drink your coffee with your CM's as long as you cut back on the other dairy and cheese. Also- you are "allowed" coffee one time a day outside of a CM as long as it is consumed in 15 minutes or less. You cannot drink it all day long if it has any cream in it. Only if it is black. Yes, it will be a change and I had to actually give it up all together. I discovered that I am sensitive even to the cream and it caused me to plateau. As soon as I cut out the coffee with cream the weight loss resumed.

Another big change for me is the herbal teas. I have always drank them but with honey. Giving that up was a change but not near as bad as I thought. Now I enjoy my chamomile and peppermint teas just fine on their own

Was so busy yesterday no time to eat nor even hungry so it was an etreme IF day with only one meal. I made that my RM and it was great! I felt fine all day and evening with the one meal. Today however I am eating my lunch CM at 1200 and will try to eat again around 5pm or so.

Bad news: lost my wedding ring It slipped off my fingers as they have got so loose lately. Been looking everwhere and next will be digging through all the garbage bags over a tarp. Ug, not looking forward to that!

What sort of scale do you weigh yourself on? My scale only weighs in increments of 0.2 lbs. I'm looking at your #s at the end of each week and it's making me scratch my head. WTG, BTW. Nice results and still more to come.

MIW what did you have for your one rm after fasting all day? Also, this is not a low fat diet. You can choose to use lowfat items but even the Hellers say to beware of low fat because they add sugar to lower the fat content. If you want to have lower fat just add water to regular mayo or salad dressing. I am still eating one meal a day. Today was a burger witht the works, banana, smoothie, carrot cake cupcake.

Okay, the next thing I am going to do is stop weighing every day. It is making me batty!!! I am going to wait until April 1st before I weigh next.

MIW: Please say that you found your ring! At first I was like "Oooh I want my ring to be loose," but then I was like "Wait, I really don't want to lose it."

I hope she found her ring, too. I prayed for you that you would, MIW.

I have decided not to start CAD today. I'm going to wait because I am a total insomniac and I've been out of Restoril for going on a week. I'm still such a mess that today I slept (once I got to sleep) to 1:30 this afternoon. And I woke with burning eyes and feeling like I got very little actual sleep. It's awful! Benadryl does little for me and that's all I have to take right now.

And when I'm up half the night (or more than half), out of boredom and frustration, I eat something. So I'm just going to wait and start the diet when the medication arrives and I can be sure I'll have a much better shot at a normal sleeping pattern.

I sort of envy those of you already on the journey. I weighed myself today and was reminded how the scale becomes your friend (for the most part) when you are addressing your weight issues. I know it gets stuck here and there but the over-all trend is mostly down. I need that to be MY trend, too.

Have a nice day. If you are a New Englander and got snowed on last night and today, you are not alone. Spring is very late this year. We are so ready.

I have decided to try out JUDDD for a week or two. I'm not holding my breath - I might be back! I will at least check in. Maybe a JUDDD/CAD mash-up. I had never heard of it before and it sounds intriguing. Lots of success over there, too!

I am going to keep trying everything until I find my diet. I can't just keep re-trying Weight Watchers over and over and over again like I had been doing for the last 8 years. It's obviously not working out for me. I do like CAD, though. And I think if I don't like JUDDD or don't feel like I can handle it, I will certainly come back because CAD is safe to me. And easy.

I, too, hope JUDDD works for you Andrea. Let us know, ok? I checked it out, but it sounded too much like those "fad" diets I tried too many of in the 70's..... but that's me. I can't even count how many roller coasters I've been on in my dieting life. CAD works for me because I'm not craving or feeling deprived. Good luck Andrea! Hopefully your search for the perfect WOE/WOL will be fruitful..... sorry for the pun. LOL!

The scale I use is just one we got from costco with a needle dial. I just gauge it at 0.5lbs when the needle rests between 2 lines. I end up getting the 1/10th measurements when I add up all the weights, then divide by 7. If you take a calculator and pick a random week (one that has weights that are like 220.5lbs) you will see how after you get the average I ended up with weights that have the 1/10 increments.

Thanks about the ring btw. Still haven't found it. I did look everywhere. Of course it dissapeared on the day I was cleaning EVERYTHING and was in every room, drawer, toy box, etc. Even the rabbit cages! LOL We figure if it got lost around the house we will find it eventually. Today Hubby will help pick through the garbabe... yuck. But, we have to before garbage day. Once it is gone it is gone so we have to look through it all. We had a party that day so I am really hoping someone didn't find it and go, "Wow, nice gift!"

For that one RM day: corned beef and cabbage, big plate of ice cream and cake. A Squirt soda. Nothing low fat or SF in my house. I'd rather have the calories than the chemicals. That is one of my sayings ;p

Oh I'll miss you! Ring still is missing but thanks so much everyone for your thoughts and prayers. I just know it will show up soon. We will be here waiting for you if you decide to come back. Yes, the weight loss is slow on CAD but remember it really is for life and it isn't about losing weight by cutting out calories or fat. It is about getting your insulin levels to be more like in a normal metabolism and not just go right into fat storage mode and have too much in your system. Day by day your insulin is storing less as fat and that is what lets your body burn the fat you have. You can speed it up with exercise or caloric restriction as well but I'd rather eat like I always have and be happy. If you click on my diet ticker in my signature line you can see my slow steady decline downwards. I eat between 1800-2600 calories a day since Nov 1st and am consistenly losing This is for life for me and if I can sweet talk you into staying at it I will! It is so simple- no calories to count, no grams, no weighing your food out, etc.

Yep, it is slow but so worth it. I have gotten up and said, "should I go an a fruit fast today?" and then I feel how unhungry I am on CAD. Yes I was up a pound from yesterday but I don't want the hungry and uncontrolled feeling back and going on and off diets never worked. If I want or feel that I need to do a cleansing then I will just incorporate a lot of fruit and veggies in my rm and leave it at that but not all day. I have to stick to my one meal a day or I am doomed. Even if it meant not losing another pound it would be worth it to me.

At one time I thought about and did the JUDDD diet but after awhile the weight loss slowed again and on my up days I would lose control and eat all day until sick and still unsatisfied. Then if some occacsion came up I couldn't eat if it was on my down days. I just know I can eat every day on CAD with friends or family either healthy foods of not. My body usually craves good food after a few fast food junky rms anyways. Would you rather be heavier and content and eat or skinny and starving and miserable always on a diet? That's my motto.

Let's start posting our rms and maybe that will encourage some.. Yesterday I was full full full all day and at my rm lunch I had a huge ribeye steak, big salad with ranch, about 2 cups of mint and vanilla ice cream. I couldn't eat another thing all day. Today is 2 apples, mini pizza, 4 white chocolate egg Reesees. I am not hungry after eating around noon yesterday and it is about 6 a.m. right now. I couldn't eat a thing right now and won't until around 1 today.
