Bahahaa!! That's too funny Beth2013! I think I would have thought the same thing, if I'd known we could cut them! I gotta go buy some now! I got a free ketone meter but it only has 2 test strips and they are PRICEY! Plus I've been a sissy about stabbing myself. lol ..I'm still tickled over your post.

Oh and that hotdog was worth it!!

I'm not positive but I've heard that dietary fat can make the strips test darker. Also once your body is adjusted to low carb you may be in ketosis but not be spilling extra ketones so you wont get a dark reading. I think. They also say that as long as you show even trace that means you're in.

Grainfree - I don't use the MCT - I had to look it up to even find out what it is (I'm new here). I do use a wee bit of CO in my morning coffee.

I tested my first strip late in the afternoon when I first got them and it looked somewhere between moderate and large (I think you're supposed to do it first thing in the a.m.?)

I only did it that once because I keep forgetting in the mornings. I have no idea if it's important or not for this particular diet. No one here mentions it much, so I'm guessing not.

Do you find you get more energy with the MCT oil? It looks interesting!

Im sure this has been discussed here before but going through 45 pages will take some time! my very last question is how do we know we are losing fat and not water weight? It would be rather annoying seeing a lot of scale loss over the week and gain it back only because it was water, not a lot of fat loss. Thanks for all the help you guys!

This is something I would totally do also, if I didn't already know what they were and looked like!

If you are already in ketosis, you should be losing fat.

If you are just starting this way of eating, chances are the first week or two will be water weight loss.

I am not losing that is why I don't think I am in Ketosis also, my urinalysis ketostix say I am only in trace ketosis. Like, I said earlier, only time it turns pink or purple is with MCT oil. I use MCT oil, because I originally started last summer with the Leptin Reset by Dr. Jack Kruse and Bullet proof diet(IF) and lost 8 pounds in 5 days. MCT oil was a suggested to me, to help with hunger levels and it gives you quick energy. MCT or CO is known to help with satiating the appetite. However, it didn't work this time around. I just feel stuck. I like to see some weight loss on the scale as it gives me motivation. Well, I am doing eggs and meat today we shall see if that helps. So, so, frustrated with myself, but its a learning lesson.

Also keep a diary of your measurements ss1 and that is a fairly good indicator of proper loss and not just water. I can have the scales not move (or even go up) and still have changes in my measurements or even in the way my clothes feel...it's a mystery really as to the way our bodies work when it comes to weight loss! Good luck

Great advice, Tashy. I've been stuck on the same number for 5 days now, but today I was able to get into a top and some pants that I haven't worn in two years. And they're not even tight lol.

I had 2 deviled eggs for lunch and for dinner I had some thinly sliced steak stir-fried with some minced onion. At the last minute I caved and threw in some broccoli and cauliflower...not much, though.

I don't really use much salt, but for the past week and a half or so I've been craving water and drinking quite a lot of it. Pretty sure I'll see that same number again tomorrow. But...I did get my walk in and was really active around the house -- Spring cleaning.

Grainfree - hang in there. If you feel like it, post your menus and everything - there are some talented ladies here who are so helpful at trouble-spotting and generous with their time and advice. We know what you're going through.

Does anyone know if you can have some fish instead of meat and still have the same kind of results? I'm doing boiled eggs for breakfast with mayo to dip, pan fried chicken in butter for dinner tonight but wasn't sure what I could do for lunch to take to work. So I ended up just doing some tuna and mayo. Would it still work the same or does it have to be meat not fish?

Stardust, in my experience any meat will work fine. Just make sure you are getting enough fat in your daily intake from other sources, as fish tends to be naturally lower in fat unless you eat more of the oily fish. The only thing I try to steer clear of with my meat intake is overly processed meat such as sausages, deli meats and too much bacon because of the salt content and potential for water retention. Hope that helps

I've been sort of craving cold, boiled shrimp (with spicy red sauce, of course). Tired of meat, tired of tuna ... deviled eggs and egg salad still appeal, though.

Lori - Your reasoning about your fluctuations always calm me down when I'm about to go into angst-mode over my 5-day mini stall (I know it's not really a stall, though). I forgot to weigh this morning! First time in 25 days but I'm going to use yesterday's number since I'm almost positive I'm still the same. Exact same thing happened in second week, so not in panic mode yet. Might try upping fats and see if that gets things moving downward.

Stay strong everyone! 5 days left!

Thanks, i try to keep my measurements but either im not doing it right or Ive only lost about a half an inch since January. My weight seems to be fluctuating between the same 2 pounds a lot. Im hoping this will get me on the right path again.

start: 137.8
day1: 138.5 (UGH!!!)
day 2:138.2

I am exercising to the point where i can feel a little soreness so that could possibly slow the scale weight down. Im also going to try drinking more water. Im taking a little mini trip to my sisters college to bring her stuff home for the summer. I want to stick to the plan but its a 6 hour car ride to get there.

Thanks Tashydoll! I haven't been this committed in a long time so having the scale/tape measure cooperate with me has been just freakin great! I hope to be able to work through the stalls when they come, as I know they will. For now though HAPPY DANCE! BTW my name is Tasha so of course I love your screen name.

Phase! More than a half-pound down this late is awesome! I'd been wishing I'd measured before starting, but no worries. As long as my clothes continue to get loose I'm good lol.

My son emailed me today that we need to get busy finalizing the food for the rehearsal dinner. We live in different states and since he's getting married on a holiday weekend, we decided to have it in a private home that we engaged for our stay the week of the wedding. Sooooo...I've been looking at the most amazing desserts LOL. Talk about torture!!!! Found some really adorable ideas, tho.

5 days! Then we get salad treats lol.

Beth2013 loose clothes are definitely just as good as a shrinking measurement! Congrats on your sons upcoming wedding! Helping plan stuff sounds fun but oh my having to look at desserts might undo my willpower. lol I have to avoid threads here that talk too much about recipes or I start to get cravings. Woowho! I love the salad countdown!

I think Tasha is a cute name Yes, luckily for me I can have lots of choices though! Not many people call me Tasha, mostly Natasha (people who I've just met or don't know me very well) or Tash

It appears everyone is doing well. I'm dealing with a couple of teenage boys who have decided to exchange personalities! My oldest (17) has decided he doesn't want to be the responsible one anymore and is rebelling. While the younger one (15) is stepping up - cooking, cleaning, and helping with his two younger siblings. He has always been the wild child that never helped with anything. My world is so confusing right now

Well done Phase! That is awesome! I'm down 1lb from yesterday, although yesterday was my first day LOL. I'll be doing regular LC (including oopsie pizza and veggies) over the weekend and then M&E from Mon - Fri. I'll get weighed on Friday morning to see the overall weekly loss. I can't do with weighing every day I freak out too much lol.

Lori - You're doing double duty -- toning AND losing - very impressive!! Wishing you swooshes for payoff!!!

Stardust: Nothing better than seeing the numbers heading south. I get so excited when that happens it's ridiculous!

Here are my wacky stats for the past two weeks. Pretty much eating the exact same thing every day - meat/eggs - so haven't a clue what's going on but happy about today! Trying to decide what to do after 4/30. Are most of you going to stick with M/E? Tashy? Phase? Lori?
