What is Dukan?

What is Dukan? Is this a place for the Duke Dieters on the No Sugar No Starch Diet plan?

Danny, here is a thread that explains the Dukan diet.

DUKAN EATING PLAN FYI

If you decide to give it a try, do get the book and read it. There is also a cookbook out now. Dukan facebook USA is a good site to go to for information. Dukan is not sugar, no starch, but also a lot of other things. No fruit or grains except for oatbran and wheat bran if needed the first 2 phases, then these are added back in limited amts once you reach your goal weight.

Blondey63 --- I understand! But I usually just tell myself I must have had extra salt I didn't know about and see what tomorrow looks like
Yesterday I was up 1.5 but today that was gone --it was up from a BIG pickle I just thought I had to have --I love those gas station pickles in a bag -but that salt is awful!
I do weigh everyday so that I can track these changes because I'd be so depressed if on my weigh in day it was up when I'd spent a week being on plan.

Keep on keeping on --- you'll see the results.

OK, I'm on it as of today. Breakfast was eggs, ff cheese, coffee w/ff half and half. Probably no lunch and for dinner meat and ff cottage cheese plus yogurt/bran. Hope that looks OK.

Blondy, my BS has dropped from an average 124 to 104 since my new way of eating! It is marvelous what healthy eating does. I also notice a lot of inflamation is gone! benefits from eating well.

THis week I saw major fluctuations in the . I learned to never panic as rarely do ladies ever have ths exact weight are days in a row! So much affects the eb & flow of our water retention. I would only be concerned if it kept going up for 10 days with out any obvious puffiness in the hands, feet & other areas.

Thanks Faithful.....scale was down 2 lbs today...yeah! So down 11 lbs in 13 days....not to shabby. BUT, its not just about the quick weight loss for me. I feel that the Dukan method will really teach me again how to eat right. They way he formulated this diet, really teaches you how to eat healthy. I am a fan of low carb diets, I am a fan of Atkins but somehow the Dukan feels like it is the right way to go for me this time. I have a goal and I'm keeping my eyes on the prize!

Today I weighed in at 182.4. Exactly the same as Saturday morning which is rare but I was so busy I guess I couldn't over eat.
This makes 44.6 lbs down in 17 weeks. I'm so excited about this diet / way of life....I look forward to the day of not trying to lose & just maintain but that's still a long way out so I keep focused on the end.

Keep going you two! I have been maintaining for months now! Lost so rapidly during phase 2 (a pound a day) I had to modify my plan. That was too fast for my body & I didn't feel well. I modified I further this year and lost some more & hav been maintaining 164-168 since Jan. It is necessary for me to plateau for a while to be sure I don't regain. Years of old habits die hard. For me slow stabalize, loose a few more, stabalize repeat.

YES, DUKAN WILL WORK FOR YOU! It is a tremendous plan!

I posted yesterday that I lost two lbs....and had went from the 190's to the 180's and I was thrilled... well, today I am up 2.5 lbs and am back in the 190's. Was not happy this morning....tried to reason with myself that my blood sugar number was good and that is what I should concentrate on. The up and down of the scale is killing me. Before I started Dukan, I was doing Atkins for 6 weeks and actually started gaining a few lbs from it, then losing, then gaining then losing....the emotional rollercoaster was killing me..(my blood sugar was going down though). I assumed I was eating too much fat, too much bacon and figured that Dukan would be the way to go. I lost 9 lbs in 5 days, got Tom gained 2.5, lost it, lost 2, gained 2.5....so at the end of 14 days I am down 8.5 lbs and I should be happy with that. No matter what I do, if the scale number goes up, it ruins the start of my day....with all the rationalization I can do about how I should just be happy with low bs numbers, the scale still ruins my day.....I hate it. and there is my vent for today.

Paranoid and Faithful....tell me what you did that maybe I am not doing right, I am drinking the water and I am walking and swimming every day for a total of 30 min or a little more. Did you guys count calories at all? I'm 48 btw. Maybe my metabolism is slowing down...I don 't know.

@ 48 the body does slow. I think you will find less discoursgement if you ate right and only weighhed ONCE a week-early morning-same time-strip naked- ater you go pee & before you eat or drink anything. We ladies can fluctuate 1-5 pounds a day just from the ebb & flow of water retention. Don't get discouraged! My weight can change 5lbs in a day~then be gone by mornin!

If you don't stress about the daily fluctuation you will be more content! You can tell from your rings & clothing how you fluctuate. On a 2 week span as long as you see a loss you have nothing to sweat even if it is .5lbs!

Hang in there! Dukie works & when you go to phase 2 weight loss slows some. You can tweak it as you learn what & how foods affect you! Hugs!

BYW I NEVER COUNT OR MEASURE ANYTHING! Just eat on plan (ate as I am kinds on my own Dukie based eating now. I am stable for a while & see what real living does. I still don't do the starchy carbs, eat mostly protein & only a tad of dried fruit. I eat weird and plain but it works for me. I am just tickled to have been 164-168 for so long with out gaining!

You should be so proud of yourself Faithful...great job keeping the weight off. I will have to go to weighing myself once a week. It is going to be hard....don't know if I can do it. I've been in the same routine for 12 weeks, get up, go to the bathroom, take the clothes off and weigh myself. It gets me out of bed faster....lol.

Blondey63 - I agree with all that iamfaithful said. I never really count anything but I do notice I eat a lot less than I use too. Typical day for me is this.
Plain Greek yogurt with the oat brand & Splenda & cinnimon
Coffee with skim milk The yogurt is a serving because I only buy the individual cups.

Lunch is lots of meat & if it's a veggie day I have salad.

Dinner is just like lunch. But usually green beans or something like that

Most days I have fat-free yogurt with some flavor or a cup of milk mixed with ice & instant coffee/splenda.

I walk the 3o minutes & drink all the water

And I watch the scale go up & down. Today I'm up 1.4 & I didn't do anything different yesterday.
I log my weight daily I can see the big picture over the weeks. I was logging my food daily just because I wanted to have a record. It helps me stay focused.

Thanks Paranoid...I appreciate you sharing your day with me. I also log my weight and blood sugars every day....been doing this since February....maybe I need to log my food...maybe I am eating more then I think...normal breakfast is the ff greek yogurt and hard boiled eggs...no more then 2 yolks...sometimes just one and a two whites. Lunch is usually meat and egg whites, just started doing veggies last week but I definitely don't overdo the veggies, just one or two servings on a pv day. I did not eat any oat bran the first week of the diet. I started last week and I wonder if that is stalling me, I am making a galette every day after I get home from work. Maybe I should just sprinkle it on my yogurt. I sometimes have a yogurt after work too. Dinner is just meat or sealood on pp days. Unfortunately, I am not feeling any better about the whole situation tonight and ended up eating two pieces of bacon that were left over from dinner. I know it could have been worse but the fat and salt content of the bacon is not gonna help me. Anyways...I'm not going to complain anymore for now.... I don't like to be that way.

I eat bacon too. I tried turkey bacon for a while but lately it's been regular bacon.
Just keep on your body will adjust & start losing

I only do real precooked bacon bits for flavoring in my eggs etc. Sometimes in salads or on top of a Healthy Life 80 cal bun with lettuce & tomato when I want a BLT. I allow myself (stabalized) one of these buns a day for a turkey burger or other time when I need a piece of bread to mabye get all my egg yolk in the morning (then I use a piece of my alottment for the day). Bacon is so but ANY SALT for me is a
disaster.

Blondy I think logging your food may be a great idea. I am not organized enoug to do that. For me it is a personal "bondage" (u would have to really know me to uundestand that statement) to have to log anything on a regular basis - but I do forget sometimes IF I even ate that day.

I am sitting here on my big ball looking at my lovely newly renovated house feeling like I am in a dream! It is so neat from all the construction (since October) & clean now that Got the construction dust out. My house didn't look this nice when I bought it in 1987. All the woodwork has been painted to white! mIt was hard painting all of it & I used about 7 rolls of yellow Frog Tape but it is so worth it!

Just noticed it is May 1st. Susan we haven't heard from you in a while- are you & your mom OK? Counting on you to open a new thread for us. I will have access to a real computer next monthere here - it will be so different from using my phone! Hugs!

thanks for the input faithful. Today i was down a lb....almost did not get on the scale but decided to have to deal with whatever it said. My internal pipes are backed up a bit so I don't expect much weight loss until that problem is fixed. I eat the oatbran every day and the past two days have added a tsp of flax seeds to see if that will get things moving. Walked the walk today and will swim a little bit later....pp day for me so I will stay the course. I hope everyone is doing great! Helen

Helen- constipation is something we all struggled with on Dikie but the body eventually learns how to deal with it. Magnesium helps (that is what Phillips Caplets are made of) you need around 3000 units all taken at the same time to get youmoving real well. I would go read a Phillips box to see wat the 4 tablet dose is & get some inexpensive supplement. Don't let yourself get too backed up as it can be pretty uncomfortable (not to mention the will be Hugs!

backed up

Hi Blondey 63, I am a 1963 kid too! When I first started back in May I got so backed up I thought i would die.. one of the gals on here at that time told me to take the stool softeners, and drink plenty of water- it helped immensely until I got acclimated, now all is fine.. but the first few weeks were brutal. Try the docusate sodium type, like $4.00 for 100 or something.. They bring water into the intestine, cannot harm you.....
