I think that I want to try this. I keep going back and forth between LC and WW, so maybe this is the answer. I have been successful with WW in the past, but don't care for all the ff stuff. It seems to me that when I read the threads on those following WW, they are always hungry, I don't see that as much with low carbing. I do really well on LC except for drinking beer which messes up all the good that I do all week, therefore no lasting results. I will probably do SFT low carb style and see what happens. I guess this is sorta my intro as well, hello all.

welcome - we'll figure this out together. I think I lost more/faster on LC but we'll see what happens. This way everyone in my work group is on WW - and we have our meeting person onsite so ...it's easy. I don't understand why they try to sell all that WW stuff when it's all carbs. Some of the WW food is more calories too. You'd think they'd have some balance. They claim to be the healthy way of life - but I'm not sure. I think a lot of our folks are snacking themselves right off of plan with all those WW foods.

So far today - I'm on track. I'm not hungry on WW - if I try to stay lower carb. today - I learned something new (or just had forgot somehow) - that aspargus has carbs -- 1 cup is like 6 carbs -- WOW - I ate it with some other roasted vegs. But - I went to the store and bought some stuff to try to get me through the weekend.

There doesn't seem to be much activity on this board. Did everyone go somewhere else?

not me - I'm still here - I'm still on plan. I've been really trying hard this week. Staying lower carb and within WW plan. I sure hope the scale is happy on Thursday. I wondered if the others left us for a better plan? But, any plan is a good plan.

Just started back on WW today. I am attempting the SFT with an emphasis on low carb. I was successful as far as SFT goes, but not as good as I would hae liked on the low carb side. Which plan are you using and how are you doing your fats?

I was tracking my points but I think I will switch next week to SFT. I was looking it over and it seemed to me to be the best approach for LCing. I am going to ask our leader on Thursday. I have been trying to stay lower-carb and watching my points. Today I ate a small apple - higher in carbs than I wanted to go. But, I was hungry. I think I figured it out - I had a nice large 0 pt salad but I used ff sf salad dressing. The last time I ate it I had the same problem. That stuff is ok but leaves that weird after-taste (not like my Ranch dressing that I love).

For dairy - I don't know what to do on that. I HATE milk. I do eat string cheese (2 pts) but that's it. Yogurt - once in a while but it's pretty high in carbs. So, I need ideas too.

Fats - I'm getting those in - I'm using olive oil to roast my veggies or for my chicken/meats.

I agree that SFT goes better with LC. I think that maybe the two servings of fruit and half cup ff milk probably did me in though, because I have been doing low carb prior to this. I don't want to give up my full fat mayo, or ranch. I don't like cheese, so no problem there. My main problem with LC is that I could do good all week, then have a few beers and it was all over. I was thinking that with this woe, it might be doable.

Anyway, I guess it looks like it is just me and you these days, so what area of the country are you in? I am in the southeast.

Also, I hope that your leader will be supportive of SFT, good luck.

I'm in Ohio....

I agree about SFT. I'm going to ask her about it on Thursday. I was hoping for a loss this week and then last night I went to a friend's house to sub in her card club. She had french dip sandwiches, salad, potatoes, dips, cake. I tried to have small portions and I didn't want the cake but I ate some of it (I didn't even enjoy it - no idea why I ate as much as I did). I guess I felt like I had to eat it (why - that's so silly). Anyways, I used all my daily (luckily I had all 0 pt foods all day) and 15 of my weekly. So...we'll see what happens tomorrow. But, the good news is...this won't be the end of the world - I will go right back on plan today.

This weekend we're going out of town for Easter. We have huge Easter food plans. LOL -- but it's ok. I can do it. I will eat at our Easter gathering and then move on again.

Agreed with you -- most of that FF SF stuff is yucky. I am still on a search for good salad dressings. Fruit -- love fruit.

We can do this -- I see good things happening. And, I need the accountability that WW brings.

Well it looks like you had enough buffer with your points, so hopefully you did ok. I like fruit too, but it is not very low carb friendly. I hope that it won't be a trigger food for me. Sometimes, I feel like giving up on the low carb part of this and just go completely with SFT. But then, I will read something that reminds me to stay away from sugar and don't be afraid of fats. Geeeeezzzz, will we ever get it right?

I'm with you - sometimes I just don't know the right answer. Today I feel pretty good - I stayed on plan and LC. I had: salad for lunch, string cheese, regular salad dressing (just counted the points), and a few almonds in my salad. Dinner - well - weird - I wasn't hungry and was running between sporting events with my son. So I had some butternut squash (0 pts but 10 carbs). Only a few strawberries. I noticed that I didn't have any cravings in the afternoon like I have been -- and I also didn't have any of that FF SF salad dressing (which seems sugary to me and may have been causing my cravings). I also didn't have an apple today. Well - maybe I'm on to something and maybe I'm not.

Tomorrow is weigh-in day. I hope for good news.

Here's a thought....why do we call it ww/lc, especially if doing SFT? Since we/you aren't really keeping daily points, why not just say it is low carb or modified Atkins? Is it the portion control thing? If so, can't that pretty much be done w/o ww? Just curious. Please don't think that I don't like ww, because I lost 40 pounds doing ww back in the day, and I really like the SFT program, it's just that I have been reading so much about the low carb woe (high fat), and I can't make up my mind which way to go. I am dealing with this daily and it is driving me crazy. I wish that I could just make myself choose one or the other and move on. I have got to do that, then quit reading about the other I suppose. I am a nutcase!!!

No - I totally see your point. I've been there - believe me. I do keep track of my points and I'm totally not sure why since what it is in my opinion is a way for those folks to track their carbs. I could be wrong. I need to do SFT which would be --just low carb/modified (like you said). I had an issue with our WW lady today - there was a few of us asking about SFT, it's benefits/disadvantages/etc. -- she totally blew us off. She said you should only do it for a day or two (i.e. you're on vacation where tracking isn't possible). We tried to tell her our side and she didn't want to hear it. She said we'd eat too much --- again - a portion control thing. That's not my problem - my problem is carbs. UGH - we left that meeting a little more than pissed off.

Here's my thing - it's a good plan - it works. But, you have to make it work for you - doing it your way. I think I'm doing that - I think. I'm on this board because I KNOW that LC works. But, I want the flexiblity of the plan (to get a few carbs - to find that balance). The other 'real' reason -- our company is paying for a year of meetings/online tools/etc. - and we have a small office and everyone is doing it. So, I keep my LC thoughts to myself when she tries to sell us all that high carb/low fat stuff. I have been getting lower fat - I think my body likes it.

It is working - I lost 3 lbs this week.

I agree with you - this is hard and I also struggle with what to do. Maybe we're the only 2 that haven't ran away from WW?

Leaving for a few days for the Easter weekend -- be back on Monday.

I can't believe the attitude of your leader. Her statements were just untrue. I have had leaders who follow the SFT. Did she at least give you the sheet on SFT foods?
Congrats on the 3# loss, that is great. Are you saying that you are not doing high fat? Or just high fat on selected items? Or is your diet just automatically lower in fat? I'm with ya on being able to eat a few more natural carbs, as in fruit or higher carb veggies without is sabotaging my weight loss. I also want the flexibility to indulge in a few beers on the weekend or a margarita, or whatever. . I think that both plans have there pros and cons, I just wish that I could stick with one or the other. Maybe that is why I am on this board- misfit . I kinda feel that if I am not doing said plan100%, then i'm not really accepted on WW or Atkins, ya know what I mean?
Well anyway....are you going to count or do SFT this weekend? Either way, best of luck and have a great time.

Well - didn't do as bad as I thought but certainly dipped into the weekly points - which I guess is ok but not what I like to do. Was out of town for the weekend so I had some unplanned foods (had a few drinks and even some wonderful chocolate. I can take/leave most chocolate but this was the 'good' stuff -- so I had a little). BAD news - we are having weigh in tomorrow instead of Thursday due to our leader's schedule. I was hoping for a few extra days. Oh well. I hope I don't have a gain but if I do it won't be the end of the world.

I have the SFT list - I'm going to use it this week and not track (except for what's not on the list). To answer your question-I don't eat 'high fat' as a rule except for HWC for my coffee and a few other items (but I do track them as points). I do eat fruits and higher carb veggies but I'm not too worried about them - I just watch them to be sure I'm not having too many in a day. I like the flexibility too - like you - if the weekend comes and I want something - I just count it as my extra weekly points. This way/this time around I don't feel like I'm cheating and get discouraged. With only LC I felt that way. We'll see. I'll stick it out and see what happens.

Can I join your group? I am recently Lifetime, and am so scared of regain. I have been eating too many carbs.

I am going to switch to SFT tomorrow. My leader follows that and is very supportive of SFT.

Please do join us and welcome. We did have a few more people at one time but they seem to be m.i.a. Anyway, hockeymom seems to be figuring it out pretty good, so maybe she can offer you some advice. I, myself am still on the fence about mixing it up. I keep going back and forth. Right now, I seem to be doing more low carb. I do feel that you can't go wrong with the SFT. I am so glad that you have a supportive leader, that always helps. My advice for now would be to limit or omit whole grains as a starter. Best of luck and please keep us posted with your success.

Hello everyone - welcome. So, we had our weigh-in today instead of Thursday. I hoped I wouldn't have a gain - that hasn't happened since we started but... I was up .2lbs. oh no... but that's life and I can move on. Excited it wasn't worse than that.

I wish I had this figured out but I think it's getting easier. I watch the carbs - eatting more vegitables and some fruits. This week I'll try to stay away from the bananas. I love the apples. I do track - just because it seems to work for me to keep me from over-eating.

crazyone: Try this - I found it - I think it will work to give you your daily points. Weight Watchers PointsPlus Daily Target Calculator It's super top secret (I have no idea why).

wait - I'm not sure if that will work or not - I notice it doesn't ask about your activity level. I think that is one of the questions when figuring your points. You also get 49 weekly points that can be used.

I'm still using the daily point tracking for now. I use the SFT list and try to stick to it and keeping LC foods. I tried not tracking for a few days and mentally I just felt a little out of control since I was used to keeping points. I think I can do it - but I wanted to get a few more pounds off. I feel this is keeping my portions in check.

Today I did good with points/LC. Didn't get as much water as I need.

Ashes - I'm so glad you're reaching your goal - it gives me hope that this is the answer. I feel good about my food choices and keeping on plan isn't too bad (most of the time).

I just signed up for ***********. Tomorrow I'm going to track with it (and WW online) and see what it shows -- just something to do for a few days to get my real carb count.

Today I lost my mind and had a cookie - a cookie - that's not going to get me where I need to be. Tomorrow I'm going to clean out the cupboards and freezer. Time to get serious - summer is coming.

Thank you Ashley!
BTW, how to you make your brussel sprouts. Are they fresh?
I had a test done through MWL clinic and I am to maintain at 1100 calories. Part of my problem once I reached goal in Sept 2010 was that I didn't take the time to learn maintenance steadily. I just kept adding foods again and then went back to former eating....slowly, but habitually. Bad! Congrats on your success!!

Same with me a few years ago - I was VLC - got down to my perfect weight and didn't maintain - my old ways just took over slowly and then - well - here we are again. We can do this. I feel - so far - this is taking a little longer but it's a good healthy mix.

Brussel sprouts were fresh - I just cut them in half and threw them in the oven with some EVOO and garlic. Baked 450 oven for about 20 minutes. They were a little brown/black and I turned them once during cooking. They were good. Not as good as green beans (I love green beans) but really good.
