Intermittent Fasting 2011
Well, here we are - new year, new thread!
I'm starting IF today - after reading the Eades article on it, I found it made total sense to me. I'm a newbie, and going only on one internet article... but I'm sure I can do this. Naturally, I like to eat one meal a day anyway. Sometimes I want more during the day, but it's really no big thing for me to go without until dinner. The plan I read, though, has me eating dinner day 1 - breakfast and lunch day 2, then off until dinner on day 3. or, 6:00PM - 6:00PM as a measure of a day. We'll see. I'm reserving judgment until I get PP in the house and read up on what the Eadeses have to say generally and see if I'm actually following the plan. So welcome to 2011, folks! Together we can do this thing! |

Observation #1 - Appetite reduction! I hadn't eaten since brunch yesterday, and I was definitely hungry by dinnertime tonight. I cooked something that turned out 10 times better than I thought it would (had to improvise), but only gave myself a regular serving to start. I can always go back for more if I want to. But I only ate half of it before I felt full.
I've since taken down and stored the Christmas tree, and done some moving of things to put the house back in order, so I'm a little hungry - I'll have a snack before bed. But according to ******, I'll be eating far fewer calories than usual - so far under 1,000. I'm kind of worried I may not eat enough. But then, it's only the first day. We'll see how I do over time. |

Observation #1 - Appetite reduction!
Char, I do IF but it has been a life long thing for me. I have never eaten breakfast so my first meal is about noon each day. I eat my next and last meal of the day at 7pm. I have always found that it does reduce the appetite, just a side bonus it seems. |

I, too, have done IF for a while, though it wasn't really something I kept track of or did under any plan. I always skipped breakfast, and often work straight through lunch. But I didn't notice the appetite reduction - I'd come home and eat everything in sight. |

Hi there. I'm back for the new year, since I had an ectopic pregnancy on New Year's Day and also surgery to get fixed up from that. I have three months to lose as much weight as possible before trying to conceive again, and I'm going to make the most of it.
I combine my IF with JUDDD. Today is a DD for me. I'm going to be drinking a lot of water and not doing much at all since I'm really sore. |

Wow, thanks for starting the New Year for us. It's been quite a week folks.
Did pretty good til yesterday then fell face first into too much food all day long. On plan food, but way too much for me. Ham & Cheese on lc pitas, carrot cake from the recipe help section, more cheese, more ham, etc, etc.... Up 2 lbs to 157.5....I think. I know I'm up 2 lbs from yesterday but don't remember what I was the last time I posted....probably lower. I'm just thankful the holidays are all behind us. Made it to the gym today for 50 min. and 2.75 mi. on the treadmill. I'm working up to 1 hr and I'm almost there. Trying to slowly lower my eating window also. Thanks, Shadows, for the link from the old thread. I hadn't even looked. ![]()

Joining this thread. (Hi to familiar faces !!!
)I've been doing this on occasion without realizing. When I first started LC, I thought it was MANDATORY to eat several small meals and a snack each day. Let me just say this: I absolutely cannot force myself to eat when I'm not hungry. I honestly wasn't a BIG eater, just the "Eater of Wrong Foods". Now, to be TRULY honest, I could do some SERIOUS chowing down on potato chips when I had them. But, meal-wise... Not so much.Take today, for example... Throughout the day, I've had 2 cups of coffee this a.m., 3 pieces of string cheese this afternoon at lunch, and two cups of coffee this evening. (Coffee contained HWC and Sweetzfree.) I want something salty to eat (I guess it's a chips/carb/crunch craving ?), but I'm not hungry. Guess I'll have another cup of decaf. The HWC should quell the craving soon. If not, I'll have a cup of chicken broth. I hate it when I do this because I'm not hungry. NOT HUNGRY. So, I'm gonna research this IF some more and see what gives. I've only lost around 4.5 lbs since December 1st. I'm definitely starting to slow down and need to do something to shake things up a bit. Any tips ?

Hellos to All! still here and still chugging along. Today was an IF day for me with a planned free meal. Suspecting an up tomorrow but also know that TOM is right around the corner which is why I planned my free meal during this week. Nothing too sinfully bad though. Planning on doing a full fast tomorrow and then combo of IF and fat fast Wednesday-Friday.

Today i write the check for first installment of buying out my cousin's accounting practice (he has health issues) So I have about tripled my business size in less than 30 days..............Thank goodness my son is joining me in the business, and there is already a secretary in place that has worked at the other site for 20 years................
Wish me luck, and I may be so busy, I never have time to eat!!!! Exciting day, but it will be a very scarey tax season. But then I get to move my business out of my home, up to the local town. Change in my life!!!

Oh Karen~ how exciting!! Congrats to you are in order. Sounds like you have some exciting and busy time ahead of you. Great job on losing the x-mas weight also!
I'm up about 2 pounds from a combo of my free meal last night and TOM on its way. Feel totally bloated and swollen today (amazing what a 3 "fun size" butterfingers and 2 cookies will do to ya!) , especially my fingers- so I don't doubt that it is water weight that will drop in a day or so. PLanning on drinking up my water until its coming out my ears today. I actually didn't freak though when I got on the scale this morning, too much at least I think I am going to continue these occational free meal days about once every 2 weeks. I think it is good for my body, not the sugar necessarily, but the chance to restore glycogen stores and more than that- the mental aspect. I need to learn to feel comfortable living within a 3 pound range or so from where I'm at rather than losing every single day. I just have this fear of not losing and regaining EVERYTHING...like over night I'm going to wake up 65 pounds heavier..lol...ridiculous, I know! My mental weight loss is still trying to catch up with the physical. Getting there, slowly but surely!

Great to see we have a new thread for us. We are off again to the hospital for yet another try at the ablasion procedure. We can use all the prayers that you are willing to give for us at this time. Surgery could take up to 6 to 8 hours, so its going to be a long day tomorrow.
My eating has been a bit different this past week or so. I feel as if I might have gained a bit of weight, but Im determined to get back on track completely. EAT WELL |

Well, so far so good for me - I'm losing about a pound a day. Of course, I started doing 16 miles a day on the exercise bike as well, so it's hard to say that I-F was the only reason. And the year is young. Only 3 days in - we'll see if I maintain that kind of loss over time.
I did also notice that yesterday I was ravenous when I got home - but I did the bike before eating, and then had dinner - and I was nauseated all night. That may have been a function of the dinner - again, not sure I can say it was I-F that did it. All in all, though, I think this is something I can do for a while. Maybe a month on and a month off it it starts to bother me. How's everyone else doing? |

Morning everyone! I was down 1.5 pounds this morning. I like the results I get combining IF with JUDDD. Of course, today is a down day, and it's also grocery day which is going to be challenging. I will be okay once I have my coffee though, I think. Right now I'm starting out hungry but I know the hwc in my coffee will curb that.
I hope this weight comes off faster this time around--I'm now where I was on November 1 and it took me until mid December to lose 7.5 pounds. This time there will be no Thanksgiving to throw me for a loop, though! Carrollee

Carrollee~ Congrats on the loss!! and that was after an UP day, wasn't it?? Yes, I'm sure the upcoming months should be much easier than the past few. Not only all the holiday parties, larger than normal meals, but also just the stress that comes with it all- I think that really does play a role in weight loss!
Looks like my water fasting day was a bit successful, down 2 pounds this morning. That only leaves me .8 away from my low last week and still awaiting TOM, so hopefully I will be down overall after its all said and done. Fat fast day for me starting later this afternoon/early evening. really looking forward to a diet cherry coke with cream! I've been totally slacking on working out these past 2 weeks...really need to get it together. Overall though, my scale continues to show my body fat % going down Last edited by ddailey320; 01-05-2011 at 05:57 AM.. |

Good morning, everyone.
![]() Weight/diet is not going good right now, so today will be not only clean eating, but a shake day. Doing the whey protein inside my window of 12-5 PM. Scale is not higher this morning, but up to 159 Gotta get myself under control!! Skipped the gym yesterday as I was out of town for a big part of the day and when I got home I was whipped. I'll go back today.Jan, I read your post yesterday and said a prayer for hubby. Hoping everything went well and it's all behind you now. I can only imagine how chaotic my eating would be with something like that going on. Let us know how he's doing. Hi Amandy, good to see you here, lurking. Danielle, I'm sure you will get a whoosh today since you fasted yesterday. Charcutier, a lb a day is fabulous!! I don't lose that quickly, but IF does help me when I behave myself. For me, it helps stop that infernal snacking I seem to do when I'm not behaving and gives me better control. Karen, exciting changes for you!! Now you have to go to the office every day. Hoping you'll still have time to post.rqw, the only tip I would give you would be to eat more. It doesn't sound like you are getting enough protein. If you don't eat enough protein, your body will take it from the muscles. It doesn't mean you have to eat all day or even have breakfast, but you should get in at least 70 gms of protein a day. There is no reason to starve yourself on I.F. We have to stay healthy. Oh, and welcome to the thread, we're glad to have you here. Magenta, so sorry about the ectopic pregnancy. Glad you are back and hoping things go great for you. Hi Piratewoman, glad you joined us. I have never been one who could handle breakfast either. I do eat breakfast but sometimes at noon. I love it for supper also.Hoping I didn't miss anybody, but if I did, welcome!! |

Thanks Linda! It does sound like things are lined up for me to have some good pregnancy news in a few months, but I know I'll worry about it. So the only thing I can do is get myself in as good shape as possible.
Danielle, yes it was after an up day. I think because I actually got all my water in yesterday. I'd only lost a half pound after my down day. I am expecting a whoosh in my future once I get off these narcotic pain meds, which seem to have brought my digestive system to a standstill. Great job on the two pound loss! Your progress is truly inspiring! |

Having a set routine where I eat at certain times and not at certain times is changing the way I look at food, generally. Yes, it's there. No, I don't have to eat it. I will be okay if I don't eat it. Yes, it might go bad. There is more food. It's not going to run away in the night. So, fasting helps me put food in perspective. The weight loss is great, but I think I get more value out of this core shift in how I relate to food. Last edited by Charcutier; 01-05-2011 at 10:03 AM.. |
