So apparently Carrolle has bound, gagged & kidnapped the whoosh fairy and holding her hostage all for herself these days....

Congrats Carrollee- 5 in 5 is very impressive!

Danielle, the whoosh fairy and I are having a party! I think she's on her way out, though, although I'm quite happy with her gift of 6 pounds in 6 days.

Today is an up day, and yesterday wasn't quite a down day, so I'll probably eat a bit less today. My digestive system is being unfriendly today, probably thanks to my cutting down on the pain meds.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Carrollee

Mornin' everyone!

Posting from the exercise bike - today is my early day ( breakfast/lunch). After the bike, I'll get something to eat. Loss continues to be good - but I won;t really know until my new scale gets here. My current one varies over 10 pounds in 5 weigh-ins. So I take the average.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Party it up Carrollee...

down 1.2 this morning and all preTom weight is gone along with .2, so all weight loss from this point on is "REAL" and putting me into new adult low...

Egg fast yesterday so a regular IF day today- planning on making spinach pie tonight along with greek salad, haven't had it in quite a while. My 6yr old son will be thrilled- this is his favorite!

I was up 1.5 after yesterday's up day, but am not concerned or surprised based on the amount of sodium I had yesterday, combined with drinking less water than usual. It's a down day today so I hope I'm back down tomorrow.

You guys are all doing great!! I wish I could say I've been inspired, but I am struggling right now and can't seem to keep my head straight. Way overeating and even if it is low carb, way too many calories. I have to watch both. I seem to go down 1 or 2 lbs and up 3 or 4. It gets embarrassing to come here and admit it. I didn't weigh this morning just because I don't want to know the damage.

Charcutier, hope your scale gets there soon, and I admire the way you are sticking to your guns in the face of no scale or one that acts out.

I'll be back when I can get my act together.

sometimes, it's difficult to get back on track~ maybe you still have some residual holiday stress~ I know I do~ woke up with a massive cold sore outbreak on Jan.3 positive sign of over the top stress for me.

I'm doing good~ had Chinese food last night and will have the leftovers today so I'm going to just look the other way until Tuesday!

Have a great day all~

Hang in there Linda...we've all been there one time or another!! Sometimes just talking about it can help. post holidays are so tough- so many bad habits can creep in and reek havoc in such a small amount of time. Maybe you're body just needed a small break from "dieting" and restricting. Are you eating enough fat with each meal to keep you satisfied? (This coming from me...HA!) I hope things get better for you soon

OK - Weekly Report.

First off, I got 2 whooshes in a row - 5.4 yesterday and 6.4 today! My bathroom schedule for the last couple days indicates this is water. Always nice to whoosh right before weekly signature change!

Today is Day 9 of Intermittent Fasting. Since January 1, I'm down 19.4 pounds, averaging 2.425 pounds per day. (Bear in mind, this is kind of an estimate, since my scale is not the most accurate in the world.) I feel good, and have been able to exercise daily. I will say that I'm particularly hungry today, probably because I did alot more exercise than usual last night after my window closed. But I'm going to Outback Steakhouse tonight, so I'll hold out.

So far so good!

Charcutier! Fantastic whooshes!

I'm down a pound from yesterday, so still a half pound up from my recent low but that's okay. Today is an up day, but maybe if I get all of my water in I'll still see a little loss.

Max hasn't asked to go out in the snow, maybe because it's still coming down so hard. Pierre had fun for a little bit but he's still not allowed to play outside for any length of time. The two of us should be cleared for exercise around the same time, and then I'll start taking him for walks to get his weight down.

Not much else planned for the day. I'm getting ready to have my coffee. I don't know if my mom will get over here or not. We don't drive in the snow--I had a bad accident once during a surprise snowstorm and also the people around here get a little crazy when the white stuff shows up.

Hope everyone has a great day!

xoxo
Carrollee

Hi guys - I hope you don't mind me crashing you thread! I have been researching IF a wee bit and I wonder if you all could tell me your schedules (there seem to be so many different ones) - I really, do feel so much better that wee bit hungry - I seem to fill up really easily - you can see from my stats that I have about 40 pounds to lose (or more!) and I do run - slowwwwllllllyyyy!! Do you feel you have plenty of energy? Sorry for the inquisition! I'm really interested in hearing your plans.

For me, 24 on and 24 off - per the link I posted at the beginning of the thread. It's been a good plan for me so far - not too hard to maintain, and good losses, too!

I hope you don't think I'm really dim (I do anyway!) so when you say your plan is 24 on 24 off - what hours would you eat on - is that the one where you would eat breakfast and lunch one day and then an evening meal the next day?

I stated my whole layout earlier in this thread (post #40).
As far as exercise goes, I find that I actually prefer working out in a fasted state- even when jogging (no sprinter or marathoner here either )! I have read a few studies on the topic and find that most people actually do very well and feel better doing it this way. Thanks for stopping in and please feel free to throw the questions out there!

No real movement on the scale this weekend...hoping it is just because of TOM??? Everything else has been spot on. Going to get my butt in the groove and back on my exercise schedule today. Been busy cleaning and organizing the house, but apparently that alone just ain't gonna cut it.

Thanks for that Danielle (I read page one then went straight to this page - should have read the whole thread before asking questions lol!) - that sounds really good to me - I lost the most weight (I lost 50 pounds for my DD's wedding 2 years ago - and steadily gained them back - by eating maybe one meal - LC- a day....) I think I'm going to give this a go again.

My eating "window" as some would call it is 6:00PM to 6:00PM. So, in practice, I eat dinner one day and breakfast/lunch the next. For more info, please read the article I linked toward the top of page 1. The thought is that, if you eat breakfast/lunch/dinner one day and nothing the next, you're actually ending up eating for 14 hours and fasting 34. On this schedule of 6:00PM-6:00PM, you are 24 eating, 24 fasting. For me, it ends up varying, of course - but it's been very effective so far.

down .6 this morning...not a whole heck of a lot, but considering the unfriendliness of the scale lately, I'll take it!

For me, the biggest factors are "absolutely no snacking" and if I stick to water, it is much more successful. My windows range from basically noon and 6 or seven in the evening. My nemisis is coffee in the mornings.

Hi everyone! I am way behind on posts so I'm unaware of what's going on here, but I wanted to go ahead and pop in and say hi. We had a great trip to HOnduras! I have managed to maintain my weight just by doing a bit of a modified Fast 5. We got back on the 3rd, but the next day, my youngest daughter had a kidney stone attack and I ended up spending the night in the hospital with her and we also came home with a bit of travelers tummy that doesn't seem to want to go away. Trying to get back to a regular homeschool schedule is a battle. I want very much though to get back to weight loss mode so I'm here...needing accountability. I ate all day yesterday for some silly reason, so today I'm fasting until tonight. My tummy needs it anyway. I ate a little ice cream last night before bed and was up about 2 hours later with a very upset tummy.

Well, anyway, here I am! Let's lose some weight!

Sorry, I'm a little late in responding. Thanks for the warm welcome.

I wanted to give an update on my fat loss. Here's some of my latest weigh-ins since starting IF with low carb:
12-1: 177 (start)
1-4: 168.2
1-9: 165.4

I had a 24 hour carb up the evening of 1-9-11 through the evening of 1-10-11. I'm back on low carb today but not going to start IF until tomorrow. The morning after a carb up is really tough to tackle hunger. I find a more gentle transition is easier to keep my appetite under control so I don't binge on my later meals on an IF day.

I agree with the poster that said no snacking is important with IF. I mean, at least personally it is important - others may have better luck with grazing during IF.

I hope everybody is having a great day.

ETA: I don't believe I have lost much, if any, muscle during this current weight loss. I'm still lifting heavy in the gym but I have to take a little more time between sets for recovery. I've also dropped some sets and reps, but the poundage hasn't significantly been reduced.

I combine my IF with JUDDD. Today is a DD for me. I'm going to be drinking a lot of water and not doing much at all since I'm really sore.

Matt, I've incorporated a carb up meal/evening once a week or so and found for me personally its easiest to just do a full fast (or at least egg fast) the following day. I don't seem to have much trouble with hunger the following day, just hate the bloated feeling- although I find that if the carb up is with fruit/yogurt (especially breyer's chocolate fat free frozen yogurt!) and things like that vs. grains I don't have as big a problem. Do you limit your fat intake on your carb up days? Looks like you are really leaning out! Any plans for a bulking cycle afterwards to add on extra muscle or sticking with lean and tone? Sorry..not trying to play 20 questions here- just curious

Hi Gina, I have always done a 5-10pm window but recently am thinking about moving it up some. I find I am hungry sooner than this and also if I eat much too late in the evening it causes me to not sleep as well (this must be an age thing) So I am going to try 3-8 and see how that goes today. I think this will work better for me. I also would like to get back to running but I am a major wimp when it comes to cold, so it will have to wait for milder weather. I gave my treadmill away and no longer have a gym membership but it's all good. I wanted the treadmill out of my way and I enjoy the open road more anyway, so when the weather suits my wimpy body I'll get back out there. Right now we have about 9 or 10 inches of snow on the ground.

Danielle, thanks for the input. I don't mind answering some questions. It's always interesting to see how everybody else is working their programs - and it's a great learning experience too.

I don't usually limit fat on carb up days. I probably should. The reason I don't is that I still focus on getting a lot of protein when I carb up, and I don't use a lot of protein shakes. So, other than maybe trying to squeeze some extra fat from ground beef, or trimming a steak a little leaner, I still have a decent amount of fat on those days.

Maybe one of the reasons I feel famished after a carb up is because I'll usually eat something like grains (rice, etc.), and I do think grains really set the carb cravings and hunger into motion.

My views on cutting and bulking are a little untraditional. Or, at least the amount of importance I place on it is. (I'll try to keep this short) I've lifted on and off for years. I never really cut and bulked, I kinda just ate and grew muscle and never put on too much extra fat.

May of 2009 I decided to try to get lean again, and then November of 2009 I joined a gym again. My fat loss stalled pretty significantly after joining the gym. I went from about 187 (in May) to 168 (in Nov), then back up to about 175 after joining the gym (gained some muscle, lost some fat, and the difference took me to the 175).

My priorities have shifted from wanting to get "lean & muscular", to "getting really strong without caring about some fat gain." Now that I'm at the strongest I have ever been, I'm going to try to maintain it, get leaner, and then slowly add more strength and maybe muscle size without a "bulk" where I would put on a bunch of fat. I'm hoping to follow the Leangains approach fairly carefully and see if I can do just that. I'm currently the leanest I have been since highschool, so I'm really not too far from where I want to be goal wise.

Good morning everyone. Well, my idea to try a 3-8 window didn't work very well. It seems I'm too much the die-hard evening snacker, so the two days I tried it, I ended up going beyond my window. I thought it was going to work well because I don't have any problems waiting until 3 to eat and then I am not hungry when my family eats dinner so I can't even think about food, so I was hopeful that I could just do one meal and a small snack around 7 or 8 and then be done, but both nights, I ended up with a snack beyond my window. Maybe I could train myself to not have that.....I'm sure I could but would I? Maybe I need to force myself to eat at least a small meal at dinner time so I won't get hungry beyond 8? I'm going to see how today goes....if I can wait later than 3, I will, but I find I get very hungry by then. In the past, I've never had any problem waiting until 5 so if I can get back to doing that, it will probably make the most sense for me.

Hope you all have a great IF day!

Good to see you Melanie!! Are you planning of drinking the shakes during your eating times instead of food, or as a supplement outside of your "eating window"? I personally think the shakes are fine every once in a while but shouldn't be your only source of nutrition. I think that is setting up possible - I don't want to say "bad" habits- but a tougher way of sustaining for the long run. That's just my opinion though!!

The great thing about Intermittent Fasting is that it really can be tailored to whatever suits you! Some people choose to fast a full 24 hours followed by 24 hours of eating, others like to set up certain times to eat at (ex. 5pm-9pm, 8am-noon, whatever). Others take the approach of only fasting 1-2 days a week and eating regular low carb the rest of the week.

Are you someone that tends to get hungry during the day? If so, you may find it easier to start out by pushing back your first meal a little at a time and progressing from there. I know there are a few on this board that found that helpful when starting out!

There are lots of great resources out there online. If you haven't already, you may want to check out (google) Fast Five, JUDDD, 5 day Diet plan, Eat Stop Eat, Leangains (lots of good info on that site, especially if you work out), The Retired Dieter (blog that follows the success of a guy that did IF and also has lots of good articles and resources)...I'm sure others will chime in if I am overlooking anything!

Hoping I'm not throwing too much info out there, just trying to help you set up a plan that you think will work for you!

I agree with what Danielle said.

The fact that you are "sick of food all the time" might mean that you are ready for IF. With IF I wouldn't want a shake for breakfast because I get good and hungry and in the mood for real food for lunch. In my opinion, there's no point in shoving food down one's throat when not really hungry just because it is a traditional "meal time" of the day.

Just research and learn as much as you can.
