Belly Fat Cure Food Ideas and Recipes

One of my favorite things about Jorge Cruise's Belly Fat Cure program is that you can use many of your favorite foods and products that you are used to buying at the grocery store. He also has a little booklet called Belly Fat Cure Sugar & Carb Counter that is nice to take to the store with you.

This thread is for anyone to add foods to that they especially like with the plan and also any favorite recipes. Some of the products may be easiest to find at a health food store or online. Since this is a controlled carb plan, you can also use many of the recipes in the Low Carbs Friends recipe section.

Just a fast review of the basic rules for the Belly Fat Cure:

Limit gms of sugar to 15 per day with not more than 5 gm per meal or snack.

Limit carb gms. to 120 gms a day with not more than 40 gm at one meal or snack. Don't subtract the fiber gm. Jorge refers to carb servings and limits them to 6 per day. Here is how he counts them:

0-4 gm not counted
5-20 gm counts as 1 carb serving
21-40 gm counts as 2 carb servings
40-60 gm counts as 3 carb servings

Add your carb gm per meal or snack together to get the carb serving. I find it easier to just limit it to 40 gm at any one time or 120 daily. You do not need to eat this many carbs everyday, just what you need to feel satisfied. The same is true of sugar gm.

Try to get 25 gm of fiber in each day.

Avoid products with these artificial sweeteners:

sucralose (Splenda)
aspatame (Equal)
saccharin (Sweet'N Low)

Stevia and Xylitol are allowed. Some other sugar alcohols are also allowed, but be aware that some people absorb more of them than others and some people have side effects from them.

Eat 3 meals and 2-3 snacks a day. Eat only normal sized servings to satisfy. It may help to limit your carbs after 3 PM. The goal of the plan is to keep your insulin levels low by keeping your blood sugars stable. This helps with hunger and cravings too. With low insulin levels your body will find it easier to burn fat and harder to store it.

I really like crunchy foods and find these good for snacks:

Stacy's Simple Naked Pita Chips= 1 oz has 19 gm carbs and less than 1 sugar
Doctor Kracker Pumpkin Seed Cheddar Flatbreads= 11 gm carbs and 0 sugar each
Ryvita Dark Rye Crispbread=2 slices have 17 gm carbs and 1 g sugar.
Pirate's Booty Potato Flyers= 1.5 oz pkg chips= 22 carbs and 0 sugars

All the above can be dipped in a little melted cheese, salsa or other low carb dip.

Emerald Cocoa Roasted Almonds- 100 calorie pack has 4gm carbs and 1 gm sugar. Easy to carry in your bag.

My favorite low carb tortillas are Mi MaMa's low carb whole wheat= 7gm carbs and 0 sugar per tortilla. You can crisp these and break them into chips. I love them with a few slices of chicken and cheese. Just cook in microwave 2 minutes and top with a little salsa and sour cream. Or crisp them in a little coconut oil or butter in a skillet and bend them to make a shell for you tacos.

Some canned soup ideas. I have included only the ones where you can eat the whole can. Most, there's enough carbs left over that you can eat a salad or a few crackers to round out the meal.

Campbells Beef Noodle: 8 gm carb 1 gm sugar
Campbells Chicken and Dumplings: 10 gm carb 1 gm sugar
Campbells Chicken Gumbo Light: 13 gm carb 2 gm sugar
Campbells Chicken/mushroom/barley Light: 14 gm carbs 2 gm sugar
Campbells Chicken with white and wild rice Light: 13 gm carbs 1 gm sugar
Campbells Italian Style Wedding Light: 12 gm carbs 2 gm sugar
Cambells Vegetable Beef: 15 gm carbs 2 gm sugar

There are a number of other brands like Progresso that work too. Just remember to check the number of servings per can. Most contain 2, so you need to double what it shows on the can for carbs and sugars.

We don't have a Cosco here. I'll have to try to find something like the veggie straws.

My latest find that I just love are the Extend Crisps. They come in a number of flavors. So far I've only eaten the Zesty Ranch. Target and Walgrens and HyVee are suppose to carry them. You may find them with the diabetic supplies because they are suppose to help control blood sugar and hunger for up to 9 hours.

1 bag of chips=120 calories, 16 gm carbs, 1 gm sugar, 8 gm protein, 3gm fiber.

They do contain soy. 5 gm of the carbs are uncooked cornstarch which is suppose to have minimal impact on blood sugar. They have bars too, but they have suclose in them.

Another new product: Healthy to Go Acai Natural energy Boost in Tropical Punch is flavoring that's designed to add to bottled water . 24 calories for the whole packet, 6 gm carb and stevia sweetened. Contains 33g caffeine and extra B vitamins.

I'll have to look for the crisps...we don't have a walgreen or HyVee here but maybe in a health food store...

As for caffeine that's one thing i can't have, it give me really bad heartburns...so everything has to be decaffed....but i did find a drink it's called Aquafina plus Vitamins Acai fruit punch...it has 10 calories/16 gr of carbs and no sugar...it's made with Stevia...got it at our grocery store

So i quess all it takes it's the time to look and read our labels before buying there lots out there...

Any CHIPOTLE'S in your area? I love their food and went to their site to see what I could still eat. Looks like the best bet is a burrito bol with rice, fajita vegetables, lettuce, cheese, green salsa and any of the meats. With barbacoa it comes to 32 carbs and 5 sugars. Black beans instead of the rice would also be OK and comes out about the same.

A salad with lettuce, black beans, carnitas, cheese and tomato salsa is 28 gm carbs and 5 sugars.

Or if you're wanting lower carb, you could go with chicken, lettuce, fajita vegetables, cheese and green salsa for 8 carbs and 5 sugars.

CHILI'S BAR AND GRILL does not list sugars in their nutritional values. Best bets look like:
Guiltless Grilled Salmon dinner 8 carbs,
Guiltless Cedar Plank Tilapis dinner 8 carbs. Spicey Garlic Grilled Shrimp with seasonal vegetables 10 carbs, Guiltless Asada Steak dinner 11 carbs. I wouldn't think with the total carbs being this low that there could be very many gms of sugar in any of these.

APPLEBEES also does not lists sugars, but these look good for carbs:

Sizzling Chicken with Spicey Queso Blaneo meal : 37 carbs
Bourbon Steak dinner as served: 31 carbs
Weight Watcher's Garlic Herb Chicken: 37 carbs
Weight Watcher's Cajan Lime Tilipia: 39 carbs
Weight Watcher's Paradise Chicken Salad: 35 carbs
Grilled Chicken Caesar: 25 carbs
Grilled Steak Caesar: 25 carbs
California Shrimp Salad :21 carbs

COTTAGE CHEESE MUFFINS adapted from a Rose Elliot recipe.

1 c. Cottage cheese
3/4 cup parmesan cheese, freshly grated (reserve 1/4 cup for topping)
1/4 cup soy or wheat flour
1c. almond meal
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 cup water
4 eggs, lightly beaten
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 cup sun dried tomatoes, finely chopped
1/4 cup basil, finely chopped

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Mix everything except 1/4 cup of parmesan together until well blended. Spray 9 Silicone muffin cups with PAM. Spoon mixture into muffin cup about 3/4 way full. Sprinkle with reserved parmesan. Bake 30-35 minutes or until set and golden brown on top. Serve hot or room teperature.

You can use 1/2 cup flaxseed in place of half the almond meal if you want to. I would think coconut meal would work too. Cheddar cheese in place of the parmesan with diced ham and green peppers would be another good option for breakfast.

Each about 193 calories, 10.3 gm carb with wheat flour, 1.6 gm fiber, 1.6 gm sugar and 13.4 gm protein.

SnacLite PowerPB is a great tasting peanut butter with extra protein and Omega3 FA. 1 Tb has 80 calories, 3 gm carbs, 1 gm sugar and 6 gm protein. I like it on the Dark Ryvita crackers as a snack. Would be good in a shake too or anyplace you'd normally use peanut butter. I think even kids would enjoy it.

How about Yogurt?

5/1

1/2 cup Greek Yogurt
1 T Polamer preserves
1 T chopped almonds
