I do worry about roughage though during the attack phase. I need to do mine for 5 days and I'm already having problem "going" as it is. I've read that flax isn't allowed because it's high in fat. I wonder if psyllium is okay but I've never really read anything on subbing oat bran except don't.

I don't see why psyllium would be a problem, I have some too and may use that also. I am going to do a search on the oat bran and see how it compares with the psyllium. Well let you know what I find out

I just read this part of the book last night.

For the first few years this diet did not include oat bran and worked fine without it. It was added later to give people the satisfaction of a bit of carb, plus as a way to make your stomach feel more full (because it expands in the stomach), it reduces cholesterol and diabetes, and adds a bit of fiber to your diet.

But since he did not include it during the first few years and the diet worked fine, I think you will be successful without it.

I see that it can be ordered from netrition:

NOW Foods Oat Bran

I've also read that Bob's Red Mill has it. This should be available in your regular grocery store (the bigger ones). I plan to go look today.

Edit: As for phyllium, I buy sugar free Konsyl. It seems to be the most natural. I don't know anything about it being allowed or disallowed on the Dukan diet, but it seems harmless to me to include it. Maybe if I don't find the oat bran today I will use the Konsyl.

Thanks for the replies! I hope people who have done this before will comment about the other phases. I'm interested in the 3rd and 4th phases especially. These are the phases I like the most about the diet but I cannot believe it would work. So I need assurance I guess LOL I mean maintain weight by eating whatever 6 days out of the week? This sounds like it's too good to be true. But I'm willing to try.

dollkey got on the scale this morning and went and re- did the true weight thing, looks like I too am doing 5 days attack. Starting today now lol, baking chicken breast in the oven now. Well put in freezer to insure I have some lean meat for the whole 5 days.

Well try and post my food daily. Right now limited on ff dairy just have the milk and each trip will pick up a bigger variety. But this shouldn't be to bad.

FWIW-and I don't recommend this to anyone, but I couldn't find any oatbran yet, have some backordered, must be lots of people trying this. So I use Chia seeds every day, they are really high fiber, and have some flaxmeal, also really high fiber, until the oat bran comes, and seem to be working fine. Again, this is not a recommendation, but got through the attack phase. I think myself if I have to have this deviation, I better make it very minimal.

Good idea to post food. My biggest issue going into this is the limitation on eggs. If it were true that you are what you eat, I would surely be an egg!

I cannot even remember the last time I had less than 3 eggs a day and often as many as 6 or 8! I'm not sure how I feel about this limitation, but I do want to play by the rules, so I will try to limit them.

I'm confused about the unlimited non-fat dairy; that seems weird to me. That would include being able to drink skim milk. I'm used to full fat dairy (no milk, just yogurt, cheese, or cream), and very little of it. I guess I will include Greek yogurt and nonfat cream for my coffee.

He didn't seem to take a stand on coffee or caffeine, which is fine with me; as well as diet soda.

I was also curious about the use of protein powder.

Ah well, I'll keep reading!

He actually says that diet soda is good because you can get a lot of water in and it helps reduce sugar cravings. Interesting.

I'm not going to really limit the eggs, over on the Dukan diet board says limit the yokes if you have a cholesterol problem. I am going to start with 2 whole scrambled/nuked eggs in the morning with a glass of ff milk.

I do like the flax meal and it is lower in carbs then the oat bran

The Dukan Diet

Hi:

I would like to join in on this thread.

I started the diet last Thursday.

Late Saturday something bothered my stomach. I presume from eating just protein, and I haven't gotten carried away with the amounts either. I was up during the night with diarrhea and it continued until late yesterday afternoon. (I have read through some of the postings and I surely don't have any bathroom issues with this diet).

Any one have a suggestion as to what I could use to settle my stomach down?

I am down 7.6 lbs.

I need to figure out how to post my stats etc.

As time permits, I will read all of the previous posts.

thanks!

Hmmm... I'm new to Dukan, but I've done a meat and egg fast before and I've never heard of diarrhea (usually constipation).

Umm.... Too much oat bran? Are you using Phsyllium? There must be some other explanation.

Can you post a typical day?

The Dukan Diet

I got the book at Target on Wednesday. Read enough to get me going on the Attack phase and started Thursday.

Thursday
1 c Fage Greek Yogurt (0% fat)
1.5 T oat bran
6.8 oz cooked shrimp (sprinkle fresh lemon)
7 oz pork cutlet (lean/very little fat if any)

Friday
1 c Fage Greek Yogurt (0% fat)
1.5 T oat bran
6 oz cooked shrimp (sprinkle with fresh lemon)
7 oz cooked chicken (spinkle of TJ 21 seasoning salute)

Saturday
2 poached eggs
1/2 c Fage Greek Yogurt (0% fat)
2 1/4 tsp oat bran
2.6 oz pc of beef cube steak (no fat in it whatsoever)
7 oz cooked chicken

After I had eaten the above is when my stomach started bothering me, and I was up during the night. It could just be some sort of stomach virus. (The diarrhea does seem to be going away ~ the stomach a little queezy though).

I did eat 1/2 c Fage Greek Yogurt (0% fat) and 2 1/4 tsp oat bran as a dessert, and with hopes that it would settle my stomach.

I have been reading this thread from the beginning, and someone else commented on the same problem ~ too much acidity from the protein.

One of the reasons I wanted to try this plan is that I want the lower fat.

I am a measurer ~ I measured every oz of oat bran I have had as well as my yogurt and protein consumption.

Have never taken Psyllium. The only time on Atkins I would have some constipation is when I wasn't eating my salad faithfully. It seems the oat bran on this plan is doing the trick... and then some.

(I don't have my foods for Sunday and today logged as yet. I have been putting them into ******)

I've got one more day of this phase then on to Cruise phase. (Am looking forward to eating my veggies again)

I am still reading up on the 2010 postings.

I have to eat my lunch now (yogurt) and get back to work.

I did quickly look at some of the previous posts, and oat bran caught my eye.

I am using the Oat Bran from Trader Joe's.

Hi...I started on Sunday so I'm only on day 2. Feeling ok. I must have missed the limited egg information I though it said unlimited egg whites. Can someone please clarify. I do have the book and will look back over it when I get home. I hope I haven't been messed up since the beginning.

You haven't messed up. Per the book --

egg whites can be eaten without restriction;

anyone with a high cholesterol level should consume no more then 3-4 egg yolks per week;

if you are not allergic to eggs, do not have a high cholesterol count, cook them without oil or butter, you may eat 2 eggs everyday without running any risk during the brief Attack phase.

redblack - keep us posted on your stomach condition. Hope you are feeling better. I sure don't know what could have caused the upset other than perhaps a virus.

lindacat - yeah... the egg whites are unlimited, but I'm just not willing to give up the egg yolks that go with them! I'll try to limit to two a day which is a lot less than normal.

I made it through day one with just one deviation. Now keep in mind I've been an Atkins kind of girl. So when I came home to the whole chicken in the slow cooker I automatically ate the skin without even thinking. Actually, I think I ate all of the skin off the entire chicken. My brain just can't comprehend that I should throw away the chicken skin and not eat the wings.

Monday

coffee with fat free half & half, stevia
2 hard boiled eggs
leftover steak (from mother's day dinner)
1 diet soda
leftover chicken (mostly breast)
egg white protein powder (after a workout)
more chicken (ate the chicken skin!)
lots of water
lots of herbal tea with stevia

Ran 4.5 miles and did barbells for an hour (body pump class).

I feel pretty good except that I wish I hadn't eaten the chicken skin but.... tomorrow is another day!

I got done late today and forgot to stop at the store for Greek yogurt and oat bran.

Oh well, I'm a binge eater and likely should not have yogurt in the house anyway. I'll just eat it ALL up in one sitting. I hope this diet helps eleviate the binge eating. I think it will.

On another note, I am cooking up a storm this morning, lol. Making turkey burgers on the stove, general tso's chicken in the crockpot(this is amazing) and gonna make some rotissatenders in the oven and serve with hawaiian sweet and tangy sauce for dipping sauce It is a new product I ordered from Netrition by Green Valley Ranch....I believe they are similar to the Walden Farms products and no artificial flavors or colors!! I also got the teriyaki sauce as well. According to the Dukan site I am only supposed to have 2 attack days. I may go for 4 though and then transition to the cruise phase.

According to the book you have to follow the suggested Attack phase duration. It doesn't mean that if you do the Attack Phase longer you will lose more weight. It's suppose to be short and sudden like a surprise attack.

Good to know, thanks! You can email me a copy to momtocj7mea@gmail.com. I have the book reserved at Barnes and Noble but won't be able to pick it up until tomorrow since it is a 30 minute drive one way. Thanks again!
