Quiggley, that just sounds like the perfect lunch.

Bluqq, way to go on the 4.5 lbs! I find that just paying close attention to how I feel usually works out ok. I am drinking a bit more than I used to, but not a lot. I don't want to wash out all my electrolytes and have cramping.

Tooter might have been doing this the longest of anyone who has popped in here. Klingonbabe has been doing it for several weeks, I think. I'm on Day 9.

This is not correct. A tenderloin is the bottom of the loin under the bone. If you look at a tbone or porterhouse the bottom part is the tenderloin.

If you look at a primal cut meat chart you can see what is next to what on the animal and see where the ribs, loins and chuck are situated and see how they abut.

What the butcher was explaining is that the first cut next to the rib is where this cut of meat came from.

Rib eye is something totally different from tenderloin.

So I found an old fashioned meat market this afternoon and was so excited to see beef ribs and short ribs! I have a crock pot full of short ribs cooking now with a bit of pepper and garlic and a few dashes of worcestershire sauce on top (to use it up and cuz I love the smell of it cooking) and will add sea salt once they are almost done.

I bought out the beef ribs and can't wait to roast them up. I am loving this woe more and more each day.

Popping in here (Just got back from a long day with My Mom)

OMG, I am so excited for you guys. You are all doing so well and learning so much about your own bodies. You people ROCK!!!!!!!

Lowcarb4me, I think I started around January 20th. I can't remember the exact date. I was doing SO MUCH reading for days and days and in the "mist of it" I just "went for it".

Each day I seem to notice more changes that have taken place and it hasn't been that long. What's it going to be like at about 6 months? I have no clue. Suzanneya has done this for a long while (she was VERY low carb for about 5 years and then over a year at zero---something like that). I believe that Charles (on the other board is Well over a year and there are other people "on there" who were doing this on their own for over 3 years.

So, it seems we all are gathering all kinds of information from each other.

It's pretty exciting, isn't it?

I'll have more time to post tomorrow and the day after that. I've gotten a "Break" in taking care of My Mom. So I'll catch up with you guys then.

BTW, My Mother is doing fantastic.

I just wanted to "cheer" you on!

Bluqq: I lost 5 pounds in the first 7 days and then refused to weigh myself since. I can tell I'm losing though and the loose clothes definately tell the tale...as does the mirror, but I want to wait awhile before I step back on the scale cause I was obsessing.

Today is Day 3

Yesterday BF - eggs and sausage, lunch was out of town for work and boght a pound of pulled pork from Sonny's - tasted "sweet" so it was probably a mistake, couldn't eat all of it but it really killed my appetite. Dinner was a hamburger patty dipped in garlic butter which I probably could have skipped - wasn't very hungry, but DH cooked.

This morning's scale - no change holding at 147.5 - that's good though because I didn't re-gain anything! Gonna do this again today!!

Good morning Buddies!!!

Weighed in at 188 this am. That's down a solid 4 lbs since the 9th,and almost 6 lbs if you count from when I got back from Fla. on the 1st, after a couple weeks of eating moderate carbs. I will take it!

May not sound impressive to others, but for me this is major. I haven't lost weight consistently like this since 2007. I am happy

Tooter, it sure is exciting. I'm so glad I found this WOE.

LECould, you are on the right track!

Bluqq, sounds like you're gonna have a *great* day

Disco, I know the feeling but I have weighed myself every day. I just need the confirmation after so much disappointment, but that's me. I'm so hooked on the scale.

Buffy-gotta love hamburger! It can be fixed so many ways. And all that fat

Grizzy, when's dinner? I'm busy most of the day but I can be there by 5
I am lurvin' short ribs.

Jemmi: you can be like her, I believe that! We all can.

Morning all our LC/VLC/ZC buddies!
Ready for another day of VLC. I think I am going to have bacon and eggs this morning for a little bit of a change. Tonight I am having steak at a steak restaurant, will order a good sized one. It is Texas Roadhouse and I usually get their smallest sirloin b/c it comes with a salad and theirs are great, and a side and rolls of course. I always skip the rolls but n the past I would get a baked sweet potato, eat some of that the salad and the small steak and it was perfect. But, tonight, I will just get a nice sized steak and ask for some butter to put on it.
Weight is bouncing between 208 and 209.8 this week, since my low of 207 on Sunday. That is ok, it can bounce around a little as it adjusts to this new lower weight, then I expect it to work on down some more.
But, the clothes are fitting better for sure. Yesterday I got out my tightest jeans and capris and the jeans should be fine to wear in about another week, the capris will be longer but they are a 14!!! I am so mad at myself, about 2 years ago I gave away tons of size 16 clothes that I finally gave up on ever wearing again!

Well yesterday completed week 1 of ZC and sweet free. For some reason it was my most difficult day yet. Not so much in that I had cravings but that I felt tired of meat. Nights and evenings seem to be the most difficult for me. I'm naturally a night owl and I work night shift so I'm up late usually. Last night I had that urge to snack and just did not want meat. I don't think it was true hunger, though. It was more like "mouth" hunger. I was kind of wanting something sweet too. But I didn't cave and ate a couple of beef ribs that I had prepared in the fridge. I had a couple of fleeting thoughts about giving it up. The main reason that I did not is because I just can't believe how steady and even my mood has been. I haven't snapped at my DH in days. We haven't really argued in days either. And this is PMS time for me. It's simply amazing. THAT is what kept me from going into a carb binge.

Today will be better, I'm sure. On a more positive note...I haven't lost any lbs per the scale but I did measure today and have lost 2 inches off my waist and another couple of inches around my hips/bust/thighs. It's all good.

This morning I have had two hamburger patties fried in bacon grease with some of my buttery Buffalo sauce poured over and it was yummy.

Carrying on...

Still waiting for tax refund and going to stock up the freezer with a bunch of beef and pork and poultry!!!

Buffy, when you ate sweet potatoes, did it affect your weight-loss?
It will be awhile before I do that, if ever, again. Just wondering. I'm thinking I went up the carb ladder too fast and need to do ZC for the rest of my life, just to stay in control.

hey malibu, i eat that stuff, yes. i actually prefer butter for cooking steak but tallow for burgers. i don't always have tallow but am never w/o butter. i eat cheese but less than before; same w mayo...but i do love it. since i don't eat as much tuna and egg salad, etc. it doesn't fit in as much as before. i had some ham w mayo yesterday and sometimes have it on burgers. hey everyone, i am on a jerky making spree. my first batch was unseasoned. i do eat a bit of salt, though, so it seemed too bland and i wondered if i would really get into eating it. i made some pemmican w it and felt the same. i did not get excited about eating it. it was just okay. i'll take it on hiking trips. anyway, i just made a batch of lightly seasoned jerky w shoyu, hot pepper sauce and ginger. it is really good but high in ginger. i have been cutting steaks from a roast but there's still several #'s remaining that i will turn into jerky tonight. will try different seasoning....maybe just sea salt. will see how i feel. it is so easy to make, i never realised....just a no brainer.

Dr. Eades, of Protein Power, had an interesting blog this past month. It dealt why it is so hard to lose the second time around. Also why we get to a certain weight and just seem to hang there. Had to do with previous set points. You might give it a read. At least I found it interesting.

MaLiBu, I eat butter for I haven't gotten my mind around lots of extra meat dripping yet. However, I'm not zc but vlc. Still like my eggs, avocado.

I don't eat sweet potatoes on VLC, but when I was doing moderate carbs I could easily maintain while eating them, so no, they did not cause weight gain, but the reason I am here is that I was not losing, plus giving into carbs due to the higher carb intake causing cravings.

Alex, do you have a link to that article, I need to read that.

I ate some mayo yesterday but have been trying to avoid it.

Guess what I'm eating for lunch!!

You'll never guess. Really.

Ever heard of Pemmican? It's good. A bit saltier than I expected but then, it's commercial made. From grass-fed beef. Tastes just like beef jerky but nice and soft, sort of a candybar consistency.

OceanDreaming - BTDT. I have moments where I feel ill just thinking about meat. But then I realize that's a sign that I'm not truly hungry yet. Once I really get hungry, then the idea of a juicy steak sounds good again.

I'm mixing it up still. I got some wings to make up (all your guy's fault talking about buffalo wings ) and my order of grass-fed beef just arrived. I went out looking for pork belly which I read about somewhere else but can't find it. All the meat places are going lean-leaner-leanest these days

I bought some low sodium sliced roast beef at the deli too for a change. I'm getting more and more sensitive to salt each day. I think that's interesting.

Steph, I would love to try pemmican, did you order it online?

Yes, I sometimes almost feel nausea when thinking about more, more meat, but like Steph said, usually after a number of hours when you have real hunger, it sounds good again.

Couple of things I am noticing in my 2nd week. The appetite is so low, wow. I am eating my first meal of the day later and later, just finished it now eating at 1:30 in the afternoon. Used to be around 11:00 or 11:30. And, I am not really hungry then, but I take meds that need food along with them. I am almost thinking if this continues to try just to keep moving it later and later until I am just eating once a day. Could take my meds then I guess, I have just always taken them in the AM. And, I am supposed to take my diabetic med, metformin, twice a day but I almost think I could take it once, or just cut it in half, my blood sugars are all below 100 now. Not sure what my doctors take on this will be or would be, if I choose to talk to her about it. Most diabetics are taught they are supposed to eat frequent small meals but when I first found out I had it, I told my doctor I usually only eat twice a day and she was ok with that as long as my meter readings were ok. Wish I knew more diabetics who were doing VLC or ZC and could get their experience in this. If this is something I end up doing more long term, I can sure see myself lowering and then maybe getting off the metformin. But, I am jumping ahead here, back to taking it a day at a time.

Like Steph, I am more sensitive to salt as well, had bacon and eggs for my 1st meal and wow did that bacon taste salty. Very interesting!

Oh, interesting and true story. Recently spent 3 days with my SIL who is also a type 2 diabetic. She follows the standard diabetic diet exactly as her doctors and the educator taught her and she is doing pretty good. Her numbers are much higher than mine but in the ranges her doctor gave her. She has the 3 meals plus 2 snacks a day and one afternoon, we were out sightseeing and stopped at a gas station to pick up drinks and a snack for her. Her DH came out with a bag of Crispy Creme donuts or cruellers (sp?) for her. She looked at the bag, one piece was 18 or 21 carbs, not sure which and she said, yep, that will be just fine. Passed the bag to me, which I was looking at in horror LOL, I said no thanks, that doesn't fit for my woe.

Into day 6...things seem to be going good...I don't have the losses like others...but I am down some...have been battling TOM since the day I started...

I am a big breakfast eater...so that is not a meal I am skipping...but after my lunch workout I just have a small snack...so as not to get hungry...then a smaller supper...seems to be working...not hungry and I have great energy...

My family loves chicken breasts...so that is what we had last night...after frying them in butter...I took a little HWC...a little parmesan cheese stirred it all together in the pan with ground black pepper and garlic powder...drizzled that over my chicken breast...YUMMO...was that ever good...

The rest of the time it has pretty much been stuff thrown on the grill...rare to med/rare... well except my pork ribs...those were done on the grill to perfection...

Glad to see everyone doing so well...

This morning I had a Dr apt and on my way from there to work I stopped at a roadside diner and got a new york strip steak (10oz) and 2 scrambled eggs. I asked for the steak rare and it was, but man, it was charred on the outside :P It would have been a great steak, too. Anyway I was thinking charred probably isn't that great, healthwise, is it? Maybe it doesn't matter... I think I used to LIKE my steak charred. But I too am having changes in my tastes as far as salt and man, that char taste just ruined it for me.

I think that char is pretty bad for you if you eat it frequently. I don't let anyone do that to my steaks now. Seared is one thing, blackness quite another. There are supposedly carcinogenic compounds created in the meat and fat when it's charred like that. Good enough for me

Dakota, those chicken breasts sound yummo!

I have a fave way to cook mine now. Cut them into fingers, pour a sauce of a little chicken broth and sour cream mixed together over them. Sprinkle with a bit of garlic (I like minced fresh) and bake for about 30-35 minutes. Take out and sprinkle a generous amount of cheddar or colby jack cheese over the whole thing, and then top with pre-cooked crumbled bacon (lots of it). Back into the oven for another 20-25 minutes. So delicious.
