EGG/PROTEIN FAST #12 Jan 4 - 11

Welcome to Week #12!! We are still going strong!

Can you BELIEVE it?? 12 weeks! Whooo hoooooooooooo!!

Welcome to all our new members and welcome back to all our eggy peeps!!

Here are the FAQs for any newbies or just good reminders.... please feel free to comment or make suggestions on them:

EGG / PROTEIN FAST FAQS by Mountain Girl

Q. Is it a diet?
A. No, it’s a FAST.

Q. Where are the rules?
A. Since it’s not a diet, there are no hard and fast rules, but we have some suggestions. The cool thing about this is that YOU personalize it to your needs.

Q. Isn’t fasting dangerous?

A. It depends on the fast and your situation. I am a diabetic, hypothyroid and a cancer survivor, and I consider my health very important. I make sure to fast in a safe, healthy way, including plenty of good-quality protein instead of carbs. However, if you have ANY concern about doing a fast of any kind, PLEASE check with your health care provider, one who knows your medical situation, before starting anything.

Q. Isn’t this a fad?

A. No, it’s a FAST. Seriously, short-term fasting has been used for centuries to cleanse and re-set people’s systems, as well as many other reasons. Dr. Atkins suggested a fast to break a stall in weight loss. Other doctors recommend fasts of many types.

Q. Is this low calorie?
A. That’s up to you, as you know what your body does best and at what level, but NO, this is not about starving yourself or depriving yourself or not eating. Most people eat a good amount of calories in protein and fats. We don’t recommend going under 1200 calories.

Q. What can I eat on the Egg / Protein Fast?
A. You can eat whatever you choose, but the focus of this fast is to eat good-quality protein, mainly eggs, in many forms and other good proteins. Some people lose better eating good fats as well as protein, but others choose a lower fat option.

Q. What can I NOT eat on the Egg / Protein Fast?
A. You can eat whatever you choose, but most of us are focusing on protein, (mainly eggs) and are fasting from: dairy, all forms of sugar, all grains, and vegetables during the fast itself. We add back veggies and other foods during Transition.

Q. How long can I stay on the Egg / Protein Fast?
A. Again, this is up to you, but we recommend this ONLY as a short-term cleanse and fast, usually 1-3 days. After that we encourage you to start adding in veggies and other foods. However, the decision is totally up to you and how you feel and what you choose to do and how long you decide to stay on it.

Q.What if I don’t like eggs?
A. Well, you picked a funny fast to try! Seriously, use another protein if you don’t care for, or are allergic to eggs. If you don’t think you like eggs, check out our recipes to see if there may be a preparation using eggs that sounds good to you. Look our recipe thread in the "Other Plans" forum, same forum as this thread:

RECIPES FOR EGG/PROTEIN FAST.....

Q. What if I have questions?
A. Come and visit our thread, there a LOTS of helpful, caring and supportive people there.

Q. Will it work for me, guaranteed?
A. The only thing in this life that is guaranteed is that one day you will die.
Everyone is different and some people tried it, but didn’t get the results they wanted and others say it has changed their lives! So, we really do believe that everyone is different with different bodies, different needs and different metabolisms. The only way to see if the EPF will work for you is to give it the best shot you can and follow the suggestions.

Q. Is anyone making anything promoting this fast?

A. Only the egg farmers! Seriously, this is not a book or a diet and no one is hawking this to promote anything except an option that has been successful for many people. We are here because it works for us and we want to help anyone that wants to try it. And, it’s FREE (well, you gotta buy your own eggs!)

Q: What is “Transition” you keep talking about?
A: That is when you end the EPF and start adding vegetables and other foods back into your diet. We recommend a Transition because it helps to make it a slow addition, not all at once. You can stay on Transition as long as you like and are adding in healthy foods. Next you can go back to your regular Low Carb plan, or cycle the EPF again.

Q: What are your tips and suggestions for the best results from the Egg / Protein Fast?
A. I’m GLAD you asked!

Here are 2 posts by people who have done the fast and had great results!

Here are my SUGGESTIONS (written by Vickilynn (MountainGirl):
You can do the Egg / Protein Fast 1-2-3 or more days. Whatever works for you. I did 3 days, then Transitioned.
I do better with higher fat, I lose better and feel more satisfied.
I eat mainly eggs, and prepare them simply.
No veggies, no cheese or dairy, nothing with sugar in it.
I eat often, never skip meals!
Whenever hungry, I eat an egg or 2.
Drink lots of liquids, I like water and stevia.
I take my supplements.

Here's more SUGGESTIONS, (written by Emily):

As far as "rules" for the Egg Fast, we discussed not having a set of hard and fast rules, but rather guidelines (eat eggs and meat and fat until satisfied) because people really do tweak it to their likes/dislikes and how their body feels.

PERSONALLY, I have been eating only meat and eggs for about a month now and I've recently cut out dairy (except eggs! duh), which has gotten the scale moving again and helped with cravings...I really seem to find that, like sweets, eating any amount of cheese usually leaves me wanting more and eating none makes cravings go bye-bye!

I'm sure I'll add in cheese again eventually but for right now I'm trying to lose the last 10ish pounds and pinpoint what's causing some health issues, specifically my GERD/chronic heartburn. Since dropping fruits and veggies (gasp!) and dairy and eating just pure clean eggs, meat and fat (think butter, CO and homemade mayo), my weightloss has started up again, I'm dropping inches and I feel AMAZING!

I'm a huge believer in YMMV and encouraging each person to get in tune with their body and find out what works for them. There is no one size fits all WOE! What works for some may not work for others and the most wonderful thing about a very clean Meat & Egg fast (or for me, a more extended WOE) is it is very much a clean slate that allows you to "figure things out"...much like an elimination diet that doctors put people on to figure out food allergies.

Some variations on the Egg/Protein Fast (EPF) theme include:

- with or without meat
- higher or lower fat
- with or without dairy such as cheese and cream (tho many who do eat this keep it moderate
- with or without artificial sweeteners...my sweetener of choice is stevia and only 1 to 2 packets/day max
- with or without supplementation, which may include a multi-vitamin, CLO (cod liver oil), CO (coconut oil, also used as a general healthy fat), and ACV (apple cider vinegar-- must be unfiltered and with the "mother"), to name a few

There are lots of sample menus sprinkled throughout the thread and everyone here is super nice and supportive and non-judgemental, truly a safe place! I love these ladies!

Hope this helps! Please let us know how it's going and ask questions.

Good Morning,
My resart is going good. I had the stomach flu last week. Couldn't keep anything down. On the good side, lost 6 pounds in 4 days :-)
Having pork chops and deviled eggs today.

YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you OK??? I hope you are feeling better and the weight stays off. Usually it is water, but if you're EPF-ing, it should stay off.

Hi everybody, I am trying this for the first time today. I have a question, do you all watch your calories or just eat when hungry and until full?

Back with you!

Hi everyone!

Well, the holidays are over...DH has gone back to Egypt, and house repairs from Ike are going well. (BTW, I will probably get to join him in February I don't like being away from him or my own kitchen!) I wasn't faithful to LC over the holidays. I was majorly stressed out and distracted. Not a good excuse, but there it is. The damage wasn't too disastrous, Thanks the good Lord! Getting back on track and getting my system clean by doing a few days of EPF. Going to have a yummy egg salad today made with mayo , mustard, crispy bacon and chopped jalapenos. Made a delish pulled pork on NYE with LC BBQ sauce and diet cola in crockpot. Still some left and will be knoshing on that. Good luck to all here and Happy New Year! May all your health and weight loss goals be a reality this year!

Welcome Wendy!!!

On the EPF I don't count my calories, but what I eat is not high-calorie. I eat every couple of hours (I am diabetic) and I eat until I'm satisfied. If I didn't, I'd bail. But I am mindful as to what I'm eating.

My hunger is usually MUCH less on Day 2 and 3.

Mel,
I totally agree.
It keeps my blood sugar and metabolism up. I do think it's a better way to eat.
My 20 y/o daughter is hypoglycemic and she has to eat this way.

The key is to eat SMALL meals (like little snacks) every 2-3 hours. If each of the meals are big or high-calorie, we end up eating too much in a day.

Just enough to stop the hunger.

Yes, the weight has stayed off. I'm surprised too. The first couple of days I was able to keep things down, I ate allot of veggies. I felt I needed the vitamins after not eating for 3 days. (I couldn't even drink water without it coming back up). Yesterday, I was all meat and eggs. Today, I'm down another pound.
And feeling much better. Thanks :-)

I'm in also!! Today I had some cheese though. It is definately my trigger food though. Jeeeeeesh!! I love the stuff. So, most days I have to stay away completely. Today though, I did allow some slices of chedder, marble, and pepper jack. Probly about 5 - 6 oz. total. Not the end of the world....as long as I stop now. I read a new mantra somewhere....I will treat cheese as a condiment. Now....if I repeat that to my self about a hundred bazillion times....it will become gospel.

Okay so what are you considering a meal. Here is my menu for today, feel free to tell me what you think.

1-diet coke with 1 oz HWC
2-2 eggs w/mayo
3-2 eggs and 4 strips of bacon
4-2 scotch eggs
5-sf jello with 1tbs whipped cream

probably should have done without the jello for sure huh?

mel - I'll be thinking of you as I'm treading away tomorrow morning!

jake - you are SO CLOSE to your first mini goal! KUTGW!!

hadenuff - I wouldn't worry about the jello - it was just 1.

As for me... I'm going to copy and paste some of what I wrote on the 50 Million Pounds Challenge I'm in:

Well, I caved a little bit and took the kids for Chinese food for lunch today. DS1 goes back to school tomorrow, so it was a little treat. I tried to have mostly the protein, though, but you know how Chinese can be... a little bit can cause water retention. Hopefully, by drinking a lot of water and exercising this week it won't affect me. *crosses fingers* I don't "officially" weigh in until Thursday, so I've got time.

Took DH to the airport this morning. He'll be in school/training in Oklahoma for the next 2 weeks. It's not too difficult with him gone, now that the kids are older, BUT I haven't been through a whole winter here yet. Just that there aren't any big snow storms while he's gone. We don't have a snow blower yet (it's on order), so all we have is a snow blade for the front of the lawn tractor. I got a crash course on how it works before DH left. Went out today and pushed snow for about an hour, since it was sunny and no wind (for once ). I figured I'd get some practice in and get the driveway cleared wide so that there's plenty of room for the snow to drift if we do have a big storm. I am a little sore, now, though, because I got stuck a couple of times and had to get off and move the tractor to one side or the other to get it out. I should not have to be doing this... Anyway...

DH called a bit ago - his flight left here 1 1/2 hours late because the plane coming in was late, and he missed his connection in Minneapolis, so he's stuck there until about 9 tonight. He won't get into Oklahoma until after 11. I'm glad I talked him into taking the portable DVD player! Poor guy.

Meanwhile, the kids and I will spend the evening goofing off & playing Gnip Gnop (an after Christmas sales purchase ) and then I'll get my gear together so I can start back to the Y on Monday (it's been hit and miss over the holidays). I had some $$ I got from some stuff I sold on ebay so I bought a new gym bag and a second set of hair tools (dryer, flat iron, curling iron) so I could keep those in my gym bag all the time, instead of having to pull them out of the bag when I needed them at home. Plus I needed new running shoes (my old pair wore out), so got some of those the other day, too. I had bought and returned 2 pair that I just didn't like. I learned that my feet like either Saucony or Asics. Nothing else. Well, at least now I know.

Oh! And almost forgot about my big egg score grocery shopping today! They had Organic Brown Eggs marked down to $1.49/dozen because their "sell by" date is 1/7. I grabbed 4 dozen.

Have a great week!

Good morning all!
Had 3 yummy eggs fried in butter. I usually can only eat 2 but for some reason was able to do 3 with no problem! Had 1.5 TBS of coconut oil. I stopped taking it for about 1.5 weks and ended up getting a boil on my thigh. I am also drinking pure aloe with water. It is supposed to help with digestion, skin regeneration, and Immunity health.

I bought eggs, steak, a chicken and grouind beef at the store last night. Now, what do I do with it all? lol. The steaks were BOGO so I know I will be freezing a package. AM planning on baking the chicken tomorrow on one of those beer can stands. Anyone use one of those before?

Good Morning, Well of course I'm back in. Hey this works for me and the lbs and inches are comeing off. Slow, but, Ok with that. I bought some Atkins Advatage Shakes (Milk Chocolate Delight) this weekend and had 1 for breakfast. I just find that sometimes I don't have the time, so I am going to see what happens. Have my faithful egg salad for lunch, and leftover ribeye for dinner.

Welcome all the new peeps.
