Wow, it's October already?
![]() Time certainly does fly by. I feel that I need to get involved with something meaningful so that I don't look up and say "where did my life go?" Right now I just don't know what to do, but just try to do better each day in hopes that a grand plan will eventually emerge. Yesterday: 30 min running, low carb Today: 149.4 lbs (-1.8) 30" waist TOM weight coming off pretty quickly so that's a relief. Hopefully if I can keep with the low carb it will just keep on going. I do feel pretty un-energetic today, though. Did not make it to work out this morning. Felt like doing chores, so decided to take the opportunity to do that while it felt good. Happy October everyone! Let's make it a good one! |

Finally my barrage of tests is over! I feel so relieved!
OK, I have finally got my carb-crazed eating behind me. Today is my third day of low carb (less than 30g a day) and I've finally adjusted. The past two days were filled with headaches and fatigue and general brain fog... but now I feel great even though I've had like 4 hours of sleep. Its always this way when I switch to low carb, the first 2 days are crap but then I feel awesome. I've been eating tons of grassfed beef (pot roast!!!), omega-3 enhanced eggs, and Wilderness Family Naturals mayonnaise. (Let me just say that I have hated mayo my whole life until I tried WFN's mayo; its absolutely delicious and its actually healthy). Oh yeah, I've also been hitting the Carlson's lemon-flavored cod liver oil like crazy (since my ethnic backround is pretty much all coastal and northern european I need a ton of fish oil). I love the taste of that stuff, its like lemonade! Anyway, I can tell that my jeans are looser already as the water weight is coming off now that there are no carbs to keep it there. I am planning on adding IF back in about 2 weeks, maybe sooner if I feel up to it. Ragdoll congrats on your loss! Hope everyone is doing well! |

well, I have been talked about and questioned at work for weeks about when and what I eat(since they never see me eat)... I "NEED" to eat more often or I will shut my metabolism down, etc...etc...etc...
well today I ate 6 ounces of yocheese at 7am, and I was hungry all morning, all kinds of bakery at work, which I didnt touch...I had another 6 ounces of yocheese in my car for lunch at Noon....by 5pm I was once again starved,so I ate 2 veal patties....I felt like I hadnt eaten in a week..eating IF I never felt like this, it was actually a very hard day at work to resist food(junk). I tried telling all the SKINNY ladies at work, if I eat breakfast, I want to eat non stop all day...obviously this is still true! ![]() i hate being fat, and I hate the HANGING skin even more... ![]()

New to the idea of IF...sounds great! Tell me more?
Hi everyone! I just finished reading the August IF posts and I am intrigued! I thought I would give a little info about myself and see if anyone had some encouragement for me. I have been doing the low fat high carb (Ornish)program since January 08 and I have lost a whopping 4 (four) pounds. My cholesteral has improved greatly and the seratonin I get from all those carbs makes me feel pretty good...BUT I am still fat and I'm tired of that. I have been eating 30-ish carbs a day since last Sunday (today is Wednesday) and I have already lost a lot of puffiness in my hands and under my eyes. My dilemma is that I don't eat meat (only fish and seafood) and eggs and dairy. I love veggies and I can forgo the pasta, rice , potatoes as long as I can have the vegetables. I don't eat sweets or much fruit at all. I am a good 90lbs over my ideal weight. I can't always be perfect on any program, especially low-carb but I try really hard and when I eat the wrong thing I tend to throw the whole diet out. I think you probably know the "all or nothing" mentality. The IF program which I actually heard about here for the first time a couple of days ago sounds like something I could do. The idea of eating three squares and snacks centered around Fish, eggs or cheese is repulsive but one meal a day sounds doable. So...Does it work? Is there real weight loss? I did read some success stories but I was hoping for a little more detail...such as how much weight can one expect to lose in a month if following lowcarb IF? Is it possible to lose 75 lbs in a year? I am serious about losing weight, I've tried the other ways, low carb is the only thing that has ever really worked for me. Anything you can tell me about this way of eating (IF) is most appreciated! Thanks!

Hi, everyone!
My 3-day fast went well until I had to go back to work Monday. Not surprising. Over the weekend I fasted not only from food but from TV and the internet. You know, I really do think a TV fast may be the best kind. ![]() Missa, I think I found a Ranch dressing I like. Bring on the fat grams! Finally had a chance to go shopping and stock up the fridge/freezer some. Blonde with a Rose, Did you find the sticky with the IF links? Some great stuff in there. |

Blonde with a RoseAs LC Shadows mentioned please refer to the sticky:Intermittant Fasting information links Please lose the "all of nothing" way of thinking, it's not a benefit to anyone. I lost over 70 lbs in 1.5 years. I did allow myself an "indulgence day" every 5 or 6 weeks. I think that it was the low carb more than IF that was the most important for me. IF/FAST 5 helped me with avoiding "snack/evening eating". Good luck & post often. Regards, Barbara LCShadows, glad you found a ranch dressing that you like.Good night everyone, Barbara

LC Shadows, Barbara, thanks for the welcome. I did find the links and read some of them, that was what got me so curious about it. I have been true to the low fat/high carb way for so long I did lose the all or nothing attitude. I do love my carbs, though and that's why I thought the IF would be a good thing. Is it okay to follow a balanced diet or is low carb the best way to use IF?

I know how you feel! Doing a search today on fasting found me your thread. I have to say that I feel "fasting" through breakfast helps me the rest of the day otherwise I too can eat all day (and night). |

Ana, Glad to have you here.Blonde with a Rose I usually do Low Carb with IF & feel that's the best method. That being said, for the next two weeks I am tweaking my plan and doing low cal/low fat just to shake things up to break a stall. I say try to eat healthy, unprocessed foods and figure out one step at a time what way of eating works the best for you. Melissa |

Happy October, IFers,
Welcome to the newbies, and remember that each individual will lose according to her own metabolism and there are so many variables involved, it's really YMMV. Because of time restraints, I don't have time to post personals, because we're super busy right now. Someone asked about our cruise the end of the month. I'm sorry, don't remember who........but, our children gifted us with a cruise for our 40th wedding anniversary last November. We were to go last June, but I was injured and had to postpone it till now. Funny, we'll be going right before our 41st anniversary, but better late than never. My eating is still on plan, but lately, haven't been hungry at all, and must make sure I get nutrient dense foods into my system. Sorry if this post seems a bit disjointed, but I'm just waking up, and have to get the day started real soon. Today, we get our shots, and then a lot of other things on our agenda, including the gym. I haven't missed a day, and don't intend to.......even though it's put on some weight, which can be very discouraging, but not enough to make me quit. Anyway, have to get going, and I'll try and get back later today to see what you're all up to........... Ciao~~

As far as the hanging skin, there are a few things you can try. First, start with dry brushing. Google it. There's some great information out there and it really does help. Trust me. I have a friend that works for a plastic surgeon. He assured me that my skin would tighten up if I continued to work out regularly and drink plenty of water. Skin is the largest organ, but it takes time. Mine on my inner thighs just couldn't keep up with my weight loss. I'm happy to say that today, they look TONS better than 6 months ago. Quote:
Your age, activity level, and genetics will dictate some of how much you can lose how fast. I was 39 when I started and had been heavy my whole life. I managed to find what worked perfectly for me. I followed Atkins, by the book, and lost 50 pounds. Then I incorporated IF because of all the great research out there. It helped me get to goal. I lost 103 pounds in less than a year. The great thing about IF and maintenance is that I can add in (ocassionally) carbage I don't need, but still want, and it doesn't kill the scale or my state of mind! Quote:

Retrain your Brain
got this in an email today. Thought I would share!
Retrain Your Brain Changing your attitude means changing your "self-talk" or internal monologue. Self-talk is the chattering conversation you have with yourself all day long, whether you are aware of it or not. It's the voice in your head that says, "I'm too fat" or "I'm not good enough!" I don't need to go on, do I? You know what I'm talking about — these are the kind of thoughts that hold us back! Guess what? This is the kind of useless negativity that's keeping you from being the best that you can be. It's time to turn it around once and for all. You need to retrain yourself to think positively! Imagine what would happen if you changed the dialogue so that it sounded more like this: "I can lose weight and be healthy, exercise to the best of my ability, and get stronger and better at it every time I do it." Your self-talk can mean the difference between happiness and despair, and success and failure. If you start making your self-talk more positive and affirming — and less defeatist and self-depreciating — your whole life will change for the better. |

Thanks Missalissa, great words of wisdom that everyone needs to practice for every aspect of their lives not just weight control.
May I use the above to give others a head's-up? Hugs, Barbara |
