Insulin Resistance Diet

Anyone else following this plan?

The Insulin Resistance Diet book has over 100 positive reviews over on amazon. The breakdown of the nutrients is 45% carbs, 30% protein, 30% fat. For me this is a very doable diet, similar to the Zone, but WAY easier to follow.

Anyone else hear of it/doing it?

I am having a hard time sticking to Atkins and Protein Power, so I started looking at the Zone. I googled the IR diet and am thinking about trying it. I sounds very doable.

This is the first I've heard of the book, but I have basically been using some of the tactics suggested by the diet.

As far as I can tell the basics are: The maximum amount of carbohydrate allowed per meal or snack is 30g, and this must be balanced with at least 14g of low fat protein with no more than 32g of carbs consumed within 2 hours--known as the 2 hour fat window because more than this is stored as fat.

All vegetables with the exception of corn and potatoes can be eaten freely except avocados and olives because of fat content.

Fiber is important and apples, cherries, peaches, plums and grapefruit do not need to be balanced with protein, but should be less than a half cup serving every 2 to 3 hours.

I have seen this woe work by watching my own blood sugar levels.

Wendy, I have heard many women with PCOS have had alot of sucess with the PSMF, however it is very stringent and must be under medical and nutritional supervision.

There are a lot of people who follow the IR plan at soulcysters.com the site for people with PCOS... Many have lost a great deal of weight on it... It is all about linking carbs with plenty of protein...
