Carbohydrate Addicts Diet ~ FALL thread for CAD/CALP

Carbohydrate Addict's Diet ~*~ FALL
Here is the information needed to successfully and happily lose those unwanted pounds.

The Carbohydrate Addict's Diet ** CAD/CALP

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello! Welcome to the thread for the Carbohydrate Addict’s Diet!

There are many of us here at LCF who have found ongoing success with the CAD diet. This is the place to get to know us and hopefully JOIN US! The people here are wonderful and supportive. We love to answer questions and cheer you on!

If you are interested in this diet, I highly recommend getting the book and reading it thoroughly. I will explain the diet, but you really need to go straight to the source. They certainly explain much better than me!

This diet works because it controls your insulin release, which is related to how you store and use body fat. (See the book for all the scientific references!) You are allowed only three meals and one optional snack on CAD. This is how the insulin releases are controlled. Two of the meals are called “Complementary Meals” (CM’s) and the third is called a “Reward Meal” (RM.) There is no calorie counting, no carbohydrate counting… it is a very simple diet so none of that is necessary. If you follow the rules, everything falls into place.

CM’s are essentially very low carb meals. You divide your plate in half, and ½ your meal is protein, and the other ½ is low carb veggie. Simple. There is a specific list of veggies to choose from, called “crave –reducing” choices. The list is pretty extensive, but it does not include all low carb veggies. You are allowed to eat from this list, and that is all. If it’s not on the list, you don’t eat it. (But rest assured, there’s so much to choose from you won’t feel restricted.) It’s easy and flexible, it just needs to be balanced, protein & veggie. It is very much like an Atkins meal.

The optional snack is the same as the CM, just smaller.

An RM is a flexible meal you can have for your choice of Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. This makes it easy to plan for events like restaurant meals or parties. For the RM you begin your meal with a salad. Then you divide your plate into thirds. 1/3 is protein, 1/3 is low carb veggie, and that last 1/3 is ANYTHING YOU WANT. If it fits in that 1/3 balance, you can have it. Potato, Bread, Cake, Cookies, Candy, Noodles, Rice, whatever you feeling like having.

This does not give free license to pig out on carbs. It must be BALANCED. If you want more cake, you also have to take the same portions of chicken and green beans, too.

One more catch: This RM must be completed within a one hour time limit. This has everything to do with controlling the insulin release. This is very important. Also, you are not allowed to snack (aside from the optional complementary snack.) You eat three to four times a day, and that’s it. Believe it or not, this will not be a problem. Your meals should carry you easily to the next meal. It’s all about that insulin control.

Many people have the misconception that the RM is a 1-hour pig out all you can eat junk-a-thon. IT IS NOT. People also think that if they even have one taste of sugar they will binge into oblivion. THIS IS NOT TRUE. If you are true to the diet and stick to the 1/3 portion of carb, you will be just fine. You will be pleasantly surprised that the single slice of pie is enough, and you’re okay not going back for more and more like in the old days!

That’s it. The CALP diet is one step beyond this, it doesn’t allow any gum or mints or soda or artificial sweeteners. These release insulin the same as food, and will mess up what you are trying to do. You can have these items during your RM.

Overall this is a very flexible diet that fits well into the real world. The people here all have their own ways of making the diet work for them. Look at their losses! This WOE works wonders. (On your psyche, too! No deprivation!)

This thread is where all us CAD people hang out and discuss. Hopefully they will all come in and introduce themselves soon, tell you what works for them, how long they’ve been at it and how much they have lost.

I'm with you Cindy on feeling "different" since Fall is in the air.
I have noticed that I feel more down than usual. I think it's the lack of sunshine!
It sure is much cooler! I think this weekend it's suppose to be 70 and sunshine so I am hoping to take the kids to the Farm again. They just started the pumpkin hay rides.

Gonna make some iced tea and do some more cleaning

Thank you!! Ahh...I nice new thread for a nice new start!! I need to check out that farm, I have it written down and will tell my daughter about it.

Karen, good, I thought it was just me, I'm glad I'm not imaging it. Thats all we can do...just stay on plan so we don't gain anything while we're in stall mode.

Had my lunch, although I spilled most of my shake....bummer!! It was good too!!

I'm drinking a shake for lunch too!!! It's the MRM Low carb Protein powder strawberry - banana 2 carbs!

I've been eating so much thin cut steak lately (had fish last night for a change) so tonight is going to be boneless pork chop night!

You know, hubby is STILL working out of town Monday - Friday and I am really getting frustrated with having a messed up kitchen! I know he has to work but man, I think it's been like 2 months with a broken up kitchen I am SOOOOO tired of washing dishes in the laundry room and then bringing them to the kitchen to the dishwasher on rollers to wash them.
My MIL is coming on the 8th of October and stuff is EVERYWHERE so I am feeling frustrated. Also, I have a Halloween party every year and I told me friend last night that the kitchen is still not done so it might be REALLY SCARY for Halloween since we usually set up the party potluck in the kitchen.
I WANT CABINETS!!! I want COUNTERS! ** end rant **

This has been a crazy week with trying to use my free trial time at the fitness center. The hours I can go are different every day so I have to shuffle my schedule a lot. I'm really tired with the new workouts but they apparently are just what I've needed because I'm down 6 lbs. since I started. Even though I've always worked out a lot, apparently I needed something more intense and the elliptical is my new best friend!

I just need to get my schedule in better order. We will be signing up for membership at the fitness center on Sunday so then I can start going first thing in the morning with DH and be done for the day other than any biking I want to do.

Food is going great and I hope to keep it that way. I've got a bunch of cooking ahead to do but I don't know if I'll get to it today or not.

I better go get ready to workout...the hours I can go today are between 4 and 8 p.m. I'll go at 4 so I can get back and do something constructive when I'm done!

Yes, but when you do get them in....your gonna LOVE IT!!! I'm wanting to do ALOT of remodeling to our home, but I have to do it slowly, so the kitchen will be next, that will be the most expensive one though, then I want all new windows....we have an older home with old windows...uggg!!

Thanks, Cindy! They are perfect for each other and I'm really happy they found each other!

I belonged to a gym many years ago but when I dropped that, we bought a treadmill and other home gym stuff and have used most of it for years. We just recently sold the big weight machine because I was the only one using it and it took up too much room.

When I found out that I can't use the treadmill anymore, I was really disappointed. I've been doing a lot of biking but I really wanted some variety through the winter and when the opportunity for a free week came, I jumped on it! This will also be good for DS and DH because they can work out at their convenience. The place is just down the road from us.

Hi all!

I've been reading all of your posts and I think my RM's have been too big, so I'm going to have to scale down a bit. I wish I could do what Cindy does and eat lunch at work. When I go out, I find myself eating less that if I was eating at home. You all inspire me to do better. I'm still doing well though so I don't mind it all that much. My first month was my best month so I'm trying to do what I was doing then.

Is it just me or has the post been restricted to less characters than before? I just ran out of room and had to erase some stuff.

Congrats to you too Steph, you're doing so well!
Ok back to work see you laters.

I know the posts restrict how many smilies you can have...believe me I found that out.

Sometimes my rm is too big. That normally happens when I just start eating and not planning. The menus you've posted previously looked great to me!

I would LOVE to have new windows. Our home was built in 1912 and our windows are so drafty! Especially in our bedroom. Today it's really windy and I can feel that wind coming through those windows. Our house has SO many windows though. It would be super expensive. Maybe one day.

That's great the gym is so convenient!!! I've joined a gym twice and it definitely helps to have it near home or work. Have fun and good luck!

Hi everyone! Happy Fall!! And thanks for starting a new thread!

Cindy, I know what you mean, about wanting to eat more -- I've been feeling that way lately too, but I realized why too -- TOM! Thanks for the congrats!

Monica, I can sympathize with you and your kitchen dilemma -- we have been working on our house and living in it at the same time -- it's about 90% done though. But boy, is it rough trying to live and work in it at the same time, especially when trying to drywall -- I hate the dust from it when sanding it!!! Hang in there -- thankfully your DH can do that kind of work (mine as well).

Oraki, I can feel for you too -- our house was built in the 1800's (the furthest they could trace our deed was 1882), and it has a lot of windows (25 that we've replaced) and no insulation -- talk about drafty (at least it was before we put the new windows in!!!)

Here's what I've eaten today: CM -- 2 scrambled cheese/ham eggs
RM -- a few meatballs with cheese, sauce and pepperoni melted on top, green beans, 1/4 piece of pizza, some Cheez Its, 2 Gala apples, 1/2 cup of whole milk, and a few pieces of chocolate. Carb heavy, but all is well! I walked for 35 minutes this morning, and got all of my water in.

Hang in there, friends!! This is a great plan, and we're all worth it! Talk to you later....

Thanks for starting the new thread. It may seem like Fall to you people, but it's still in the high 80's and low 90's here in North Texas! We've had a few cooler days here and there, but it'll be another couple of weeks probably before we see cooler temps. The average date of the first frost here is November 17th. However, it frequently stays in the 60's thru much of November and December. I'm glad, though. I hate winter! I DO, however, enjoy those first fall days when the leaves turn and the breeze is cool, but not cold.

The band finished up the week at Billy Bob's last week and we had a good time. The crowds were up a bit and the Friday and Saturday concerts were very enjoyable. Three Dog Night still has wonderful harmony! DD20 came and sang with us Saturday night and brought her new "POI". That's what I've started calling boys she interested in. (Person of interest! LOL!) He seems very nice and she's enjoying getting to know him.

I'm still holding at my lower weight although I haven't lost any more. I'm encouraged that at least SOME weight has come off in the past couple of months and I'm continuing to hang in there on CALP. For the last several months my weight has been holding around 196-197. Now it's been 189-190 for this whole month. I STILL hope to get off at least 8 more pounds before the band goes to Las Vegas in December. I have some outfts I want to wear and I don't want them to be too tight. I am hopeful.

I enjoy reading all of your posts. Everyone is doing such a good job!

Laurie, I'm sure you'll get that scale down more...8 pds in a month is really good, I mean REALLY good!! Most of my months were 5 pds lost, and some were 3....so just keep working the plan, it'll happen......

It's time to go home!! See you tomorrow!

happy fall ya'll

sorta off track today. my reward meal got broken up by a cocktail party and friend drama with her boyfriend...men you can't live with them.. that's all i have to say about that....

still i only had 2400 calories all day (which for my weight still puts me on track to lose ) but i am dreading the cravings tomorrow morning. i will just buckle down and remember that they will go away in a day or so...

does anyone else use dailyplate.com ? i find it pretty useful

Have a good Friday!

Hello!

I am back after over a year's absence. I am up in weight but not back to my old start of 308 in 2006. Small victory - to catch this before another 7 lbs crept back up.

So good to see some familiar 'faces' here-and lots of new people. I look forward to being back in the loop and getting to know you all again.

I started back on CALP yesterday so today is day 2. What's amazing, as you all know, is the control over cravings. How and why did I forget that? The lure of eating whatever whenever lulled me into denial, or dangerous complacency, I guess. Or, could it be self sabotage? hmmmm....

The price I paid? Taking medication (eek!) for blood pressure began two months ago.

Does anyone else know that weird feeling of realizing you have become a statistic? I want to be off asap, and then without medication for as long as possible in my life.

Haven't had my RM yet - so night to all for now.

Me_heatherd, DH usually means "dear husband" and in my case, I refer to my "dear daughters", including their age to clarify. Hence, DD20 is my 20-yr old daughter.

I sat here and posted about how well I was doing a few hours ago, and then I had a melt-down. Ate some stuff I shouldn't have. I'm not sure what came over me. I could make excuses, but there really isn't a good one. Thankfully, tomorrow is another day!
