Is anyone on the Dr. Fountis Semi-Fasting, low carb diet?
I just started a diet program under the guidance of Dr. Fountis in Scottsdale, Arizona. Is there anyone else out there that's on it?

The Dr. Fountis Diet
You are allowed 3 ou of protein at breakfast and lunch and 4ou of meat at dinner for a total of 9 ou. The same measurement applies to green vegetables. You must stay under 10 gr of carbs per day, drink lots of water, and take several vitamins. You are monitored closely by the Dr.

That sounds almost like the PSMF diet I am on through the Cleveland Clinic!
For: breakfast I have between 1 to 2 oz of protein lunch...3 5 oz of protein 3 1/2 oz of green veggies supper 5-7 oz of protein 3 1/2 oz of green veggies snack 2 oz of protein My total protein for the day should be between 13-15oz I am on perscription potassium.....and I take supplements of magnesium and calcium with a multivitamin. I must have broth 3 times a day for adequate salt intake.... Does this sound like what you are on? Caloric intake is approx 500 a day I have been on it for 6 weeks and so far I went from 229.5 to my current weight of 201! It is very stringent but my doctor said on Monday I should be close to my target weight in 12 more weeks! Then they start the refeed of other foods.

I forgot to say that I do drink tons of water and I must exercise 3-4 times a week and journal everything. Right now the hardest thing is incorporating exercise. Once you are in Ketosis you don't feel hungry.
Good luck .............it is very hard to be on such a boring diet but once you see the scale move it really catapults your confidence! ![]() |

Just so you know you must be on doctor and nutritionist supervision! Today is exactly 7 weeks and I am at 198.5! It is very hard because your choice of food is so limited but if it means I can get off some meds it will be well worth it! My fasting blood surgars are below 100 so hopefully I will be off diabetic meds soon! GOOD LUCK if you go on it. As hard as it is ..........I am glad I tried it before actually jumping into bariatric surgery!

Deb if you are interested ..............my doctor is Dr. Cooper at the bariatric center (M61) at the Cleveland Clinic. When I first went to her I was interested in the lapband but since I had surgery for reflux a few years back I wasn't a candidate. I was, however, a candidate for a full blownn gastric bypass......I did not want to go that route until I tried something else first. Hence the PSMF!

Keep up the good work. I was on Dr. Fountis's program from April thru August (120 days) and lost 96 pounds. It really works. I understand men lose weight quicker, but just stay with it. It is a great program. The good thing about Dr. Fountis is losing weight is just the beginning. I have not only kept the weight off but lost another five pounds on the maintenance. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. Keep up the good work. Jeff

How's your diet going with Dr. Fountis? I just met someone a few days ago who RAVED about her and the plan.....what can you tell me? Does your insurance cover the cost at all?? If not what is the cost like? Does she really check your blood every few weeks? I am very interested in meeting Dr. Fountis and checking into this, any information you guys have for me woould be great! Thanks, and could luck!

Hi, I've been lurking on LCF for years. I work in a cardiology group who recommends Dr Fountis to patients. I believe her diet plan consists of low carb, low fat. I see a lot of patients come thru who have had great success with this way of life.

Completed Dr. Fountis Plan
I was on the "plan" as we call it from Sept. 07 to March 08. I went from 202 to 132, lost 70lbs. I saw someone else say they followed it to a T, I did too.
I went the first 120 days and then took the required 3 week break. It was hard going back on the plan the second time. I have maintained for 7 months, I recently stopped journaling and gained weight. I went back on the plan on my own, for just a week. I must get back to journaling it really makes a differance. I wish someone would have been blogging when I was on the plan, I felt very alone. Keep up the good work, HMS |

HMS,
Come over and check out the group we have at the Egg/Protein Fast, here's the link: EGG/PROTEIN FAST 2 (Oct 27-Nov 2) Don't let the name fool you, it's not really a fast.....but we are having incredible success! I was looking into Dr. Fountis program when I cam across this group and I decided to try what they were doing first, since Dr. Fountis is so expensive! At any rate, I lost 10 pounds my first week!!! Today starts week 2, and I feel better than I ever have....never hungry, energy through the roof and weight falling off very rapidly! Best of all, everyone in our thread is incredibly supportive and encouraging...they're a major lifeline! Come over and check it out, maybe it'll help!
