Ketogenic Diet - Why don't I feel lethargic yet?

Hi all.. I've done Atkins once before.. Now I'm on my fifth day of the "Anabolic" Diet - a variant of the Ketogenic Diet. I fully expected to feel lethargy by now.. What could be going wrong? I guess the only possibility is that I haven't shifted out of carbohydrate burning for energy and my reserves haven't depleted yet. Does that make sense?

Thanks in advance...

You ought to be feeling GREAT--no lethargy at all! You should have lots of energy and feel clear-headed. Hunger should be going away--if not completely gone. You should be sleeping well.

Were you expecting to feel badly at this point?

Thank you for your reply. Well, until my body switches over to burning fat for energy, shouldn't I be feeling tired without getting a sufficient amount of carbohydrates? At this point in time, my body should NOT be burning fat for fuel (yet) - but carbohydrates. Since I'm getting fewer than 30 per day, there's not enough to power me through 18 hours... I should have a lack of energy.

Not necessarily. And everyone reacts differently. Some people feel TERRIBLE for a few days. Some never notice much difference at all.

You may be one of those lucky people who switches to fat-burning mode quickly and suffers little from slashing the carbs. You don't need carbs to get "powered through" a day--fat does that just fine!

Okay. Thank you! I'm doing this for the first 12 days and may even skip the first carb day or two...
