Intermittent Fasting - September 2008
Welcome to our IF/Fast5 September 2008 thread.
I have requested that the administrators post a sticky with all the links that are useful for new members & to help refresh the memory of folks who have been on the thread for some time. Will post the link to this new thread on the August 2008 IF thread. Barbara Last edited by Ragdoll24 : 09-01-2008 at 08:10 AM. |

Hey, thanks, Barbara. I don't have much computer knowledge and wouldn't know how to start a new thread.
Here we are in September. Wow, this year is going fast. |

Wow. September already. lol. Time FLIES!!
I've decided to simplify my life a bit when it comes to IF, etc. I'm going to have a baseline of Fast-5 and take each day as it comes. Whether I choose to do LC or not, one meal or more, etc. is going to be decided that day/time. I was doing one meal for a while, KISS LC, and it worked very well for weight/fat loss for me, but it began to feel like 'my plan' rather than just happening because I wasn't hungry and LC was how I wanted to eat. I'm probably doing just a decent eating window with CAD-type eating - still a decent plan, but it feels like cheating based on the 1-meal thing. Doesn't feel right to have that point of view. I want my eating to be a choice, not a guilt-ridden dilemma. So, September will hopefully be a better month. ![]() I wish everyone GOOD LUCK and GOOD HEALTH!!!

The last few days have been interesting... I have stayed completely on plan with IF, but not so much low carb at all. IF does at least make sure that I don't end up snacking all day on ever increasing portions of carbs though, which is a huge plus. But I ate such crappy foods theres no way I could have lost. I am thinking of moving my window an hour earlier, because I really dislike feeling full later in the day. I am thinking 3 to 7 might be better... IDK. Last night my ability to eat huge amounts of food returned in full force, possibly also in connection with the fact that I had to open my window 2.5 hours late... not fun! Soooo last night could have gone better. I'll probably run some sprints today to help offset last night. I really think that eating events such as last night should be avoided in the future, so I'm gonna make a quick list of things I can do to help:
1. Stop being lazy and start cooking for myself again! 2. Don't try to get everything in in one meal, plan for several smaller feedings with protein. 3. Eat protein first, so when I feel full I can stop without thinking, omg I should have more protein, I guess I have to eat more. 4. If I can't get to the food I was planning on soon enough just have a protein shake or something so I don't end up insanely hungry. Sighhhhh, well live and learn I guess. These can be my new goals for september... |

Opened my window at 11:30 this morning, so had to close it at 4:30. I had bacon & eggs for my first meal, snacked on homemade low carb cookies most of the afternoon and closed my window w/ 2 C. of homemade mineral broth. I am so hungry tonight and wanting to eat. Guess it's time for bed. I doubt a drop in the scale thanks to the low carb cookies I made.

![]() Hope everyone had a safe & happy Labor Day weekend. We have our sticky up but it doesn't contain the links to the outside topics. Have sent a message to Cheri (the administrator) that is helping with the sticky. We'll see if she understands what we need. My weekend was quiet & I stayed on plan as much as possible with just a few treats. Of course the scale notices every little treat but I'll just live with it. Hugs, Barbara |

Hey ladies
Can I join your thread? I've been doing IF for a week or so now, gradually shifting my window back until about 11.30 am as I've pretty much been a breakfast girl all my life (and I'm up with my little ones quite early.) So far, so good. Am finding it reasonably easy to do as I like being able to have lunch and tea (dinner) with both my girls and I've never been much of an evening meal person anyway. I've scanned through some of your August thread and see that most of you do a 5 hour window which is what I've been aiming for. Would be great to share tips with you though as some of you look like you've been doing this for some time. My main Qs are how you deal with social events (ie - do you push your window right back? or do you just have 'down' days?) and how do you explain to people what you are doing without them thinking you have an eating disorder! I haven't even begun to tell my husband about this - I just said that I want to start having dinner with the girls as he gets home from work too late (which is true - he's often not back until 9 pm.) Anyway, really looking forward to getting to know you all. Ems x |

Hi IFers,
I wasn't feeling too well on Sunday, so yesterday we just laid around, and glad that's over with. I don't like laying around doing nothing. In the last few days my scale reflected a 2 lb. loss, but I wanted to see if it would stick, and glad I did cause it really was only 1 lb., but I'll take it. So, as far as I'm concerned, today is the start of a new week, and I hope each of you has a good one. I'll be back a bit later! |

I have messed up already this morning ( waking up at 170lb.again and eating some tortilla chips and Dip for comfort!! )but will start a new right now! I just can't give it up...so I will open my window as late as I can after I awake and close it after 5 hrs. does that sound like a good plan..I would appreciate any comments.Quote:

Ems!To answer your questions, I do shift my window around for certain occasions. I don't tell people what I am doing, because they just don't understand. If they can't grasp the health benefits of low carb, there's no way they can wrap their little pea brains around IF! ![]() |

Opening your window as late as you can and keeping it open for five hours sounds like a sound idea so long as the food within that window is nutrient-dense. |

![]() Yes, I shift my window quite frequently; I sometimes open at 11 and sometimes as late as 2 pm, but I always stay within my window. Actually, people are so involved in their own lives, and I play low profile and avoid all conversations about food, unless of course they are eating one of my low carb meals or goodie, and rave about it. Then, I simply tell them what's in that recipe, NOT that it's low carb, and certainly not IF!! |

Thanks ladies. I am thinking I will try and do the same - push my window back if I have an evening do, which we seem to have a lot of at the moment as it's wedding season over here. I think I need to get my start time to about midday on a daily basis, then shifting it back by a couple of hours shouldn't be too tough.
What tricks do you have for staving off the hunger on those days?! Do you just drink coffee and water? And if you felt you needed a small snack just to tide you through, what would you choose? Also - do you take all your vits/supplements in your window too? |

Makes me laugh that I have spent the last 10 years with DH telling him off for skipping BF! He is 6 ft 6 and never had to worry about his weight in his life. Guess he's been doing IF without even realising it...

Ems I drink flavored Iced Tea all day long along with decaf coffee. If I need a small snack to tide me through, I either have eggs or a diet soda with a tabelspoon of heavy cream & sometimes I mix 1 T of coconut oil in it. It really helps with the hunger. Most days I follow a 5 or 6 hour window opening between noon to 2 or 3 P.M. depending on the hunger I feel that day. I try to stick with one big main meal with a small snack every day. I don't try to explain IF/Fast5 unless someone is really struggling to lose weight & asks for my help. Then I'll tell them that low carb + IF has worked for me. I usually take my supplements before bedtime but don't think it makes an difference when you take them. When I go out for an occasion I start my window when it best fits & I don't sweat it if my window expands a little past 5 or 6 hours once in awhile. Remember to eat good clean foods without a lot a "carbage" in your window. ![]()

there are some great tips here! thanks for all your help. i've looked at the links to other sites this thread suggested (Aug) but nothing beats first hand tips from people who have been tweaking here and there, plus combining with lc too.
the eggs/ co could be a good snack on those days when my window opens particuarly late. so, another Q and apologies if you answer these newbie Qs all the time. i've just restarted training (running) again and am building up towards proper training for the london marathon (this will start in nov). i have always been a morning runner and am concerned about how i fit this into the new IF schedule. what is your experience of exercise and IF? i reckon i can make it work if i time my runs so i'm opening my window not too long after the exercise - especially if it's been a big run. thoughts/advice most welcome. |

Although I'm not a runner or for that matter a big exerciser from what I read others don't have a problem doing IF with exercise & most start their IF window later in the day after exercising without any problems. Everyone is different so your results may vary. If you feel you need something by all means have some eggs or an Egg Cream and just easy into a longer eating window if you need to while you are training. HTH, Barbara |

Ems, when I was exercising regularly, I did it on an empty stomach and never felt any ill effects. I am not a runner, and the protein requirements may vary; really not sure about that. But, do ease into it, experiment one way for a week, then the next, try another option.
You've got the idea though that you can time your runs so that you're opening your window not too long afterwards. Let us know how it works for you in your trail runs! |

Hey all.
Seems everyone is doing okay. I got back from my trip last night. I have jetlag something awful. I feel horrible. My eating was not bad. I did not |
