Raw Vegan

Is anybody eating 100% RAW?

Would love to hear from anyone who is.

I am truly thinking of switching to this WOE. I have gathered some interesting information on eating raw.

I have a friend who eats 100% raw vegan (even though there are some raw foods out there that are debatable whether they are truly raw or not-like raw cashews or unsweetened cocoa powder.) and she looks amazing! Her skin glows. Her hair shines. She's in very good health, too. Hasn't had so much as a cold in the past two years. She had some excess skin from losing a lot of weight. But eating at 100% raw is what got her to shed it. I never knew raw would do that for you. She vowed to never have surgery to remove it & when nothing else worked-she discovered raw. And she hasn't looked back since. And if I'm remembering correctly, I think the first month she went 100% raw-she lost the last 17 pounds she needed to lose to hit goal weight. She has passed on some really great raw food recipes to me, too. Of course-higher in sugar content because of the fruit and dried fruit. But I have tried some of them. And they are really good. That's where I got the ideal for the mockolate pudding.

Also, you can do a search for Alissa Cohen. She has a lot of good information on raw vegan. She even has a book out on being raw vegan.

Moretta, I am researching the Paleo diet that was mention above.
I bought the book by Dr. Loren Cordain and am very pleased so far.
It's not all raw bc it includes a good amount of protein.
But it also emphasizes fresh fruits and veggies.
I feel better eating this way and my carbs are still lower than the standard diet.

I have just received her book. I'm so excited to get started on this.

This is what I have been reading on the net. Also, reading testimonials and they all look so fabulous.

I think IMO that it is a great way of eating and believe the theory behind it.

Mostly mixed green salads, sprouts, fruit, nuts, seeds for lunch and dinner and green smoothies for breakfast.

I need to order myself some products online which I cannot find in my local HFS to start making some gourmet meals.

I also got a dehydrator about a 2 months ago, but have not used it.

I just bought a dehydrator..(I'm not a raw person), but I did make some nice flaxmeal crackers with chopped veggies in them. Warning: They take a long time..Like 12 or so hours..

Basically:
One cup of flaxseed meal
One cup of water

Let these soakfor a while

Add: finely chopped veggies of choice
Seasoning..salt/garlic/onion, etc..

Spread on special tray on dehydrator and let her rip.
I used "parchment paper" and it worked great.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled program, ladies.

Oh wow. I tried raw vegan about two years ago and really, really, REALLY wanted it to work for me, but it just didn't. Unfortunately for me, it led to some really obsessive compulsive thoughts and behaviors about food, to the point that I would say I was bordering on disordered eating.

I think it can be a great way of eating, but for me low carb is really the only way I've ever been able to eat and think about food like a normal person. I do eat a lot of raw vegetables and avocados, as I have no doubt that raw fruits and vegetables are a great source of vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients!

There are several different ways to do raw:

the Alissa Cohen way advocates eating 100% raw foods in the form of fruits, veggies, nuts/seeds, cold-pressed oils and sprouted grains. No dairy or meat.

The Dr. Graham way advocates an 80/10/10 plan. Who can do that??!!?? It's 80% carbs, 10% fat, 10% protein. No dairy or meat.

The Hallejuah Diet advocates an 85% raw foods diet. 15% from cooked. No more than 15% from fruit. No daiy or meat, either. They do endorse whole grains.

The Bragg Healthy Lifestyle (which Jack LaLanne follows) advocates eating 65% raw foods. They say you can eat meat-IF YOU MUST-but no more than 3x a week. They also do not endorse dairy products. And they do endorse low-fat. And they do endorse whole grains.

So thankful about this thread!

I have been almost 100% raw for the past two months and have lost 20lbs. But even more important is the change in my energy level, mood and skin. I have felt so much better and have not been tempted to binge whereas before raw, that has been a lifelong problem for me with any diet. The thing is with this woe eating, I miss feeling well when I do slip and eat junk. Immediately the junk makes me feel just awful. I am off to get my hair cut so I can't read more on this thread until later but you can be sure I will be back as I have been wondering how I could combine Atkins or other form of low carb with RAW. Thank you, thank you Moretta for starting this thread.

Weight is now 159lbs.

I love this way of eating. Its so easy and it's such a feeling of freedom without having to count calories like in other plans.

I'm so happy I ran into RAWNESS.

Ladies lets keep this thread active, if we can.

Here is you a recipe for some raw fudge-if anyone is interested. It is higher in sugar content if you're concerned about sugars.

1 cup raisins
1 cup walnuts
unsweetened cocoa powder or raw cacao to taste

Blend in a food processor or blender until this forms a thick consistency. Press down in a pan or on a plate and put in fridge or freezer for about an hour or two.

You can also form small 'cookies' with this mixture and have fudge cookies.

My friend has shared a lot of her recipes with me. This was one I really, really liked but lo and behold! It was not easy stopping at just one piece!! Just too good!!

I think-for those who are trying to combine raw and a lower carb lifestyle-if you are trying to stick to mainly raw-you could always eat a lot of fat and less of the sugary fruits. You know-eat avocados, nuts/seeds, cold pressed oils, lower sugar fruits like berries. Just always make sure you are getting enough. That's the most important part.

They would have to be home made dehydrated @ 117 degrees F max to be considered raw vegan, but a lot of this is about transitioning. Many start out like 25% raw, work of to 50%, 75%, and then 100%

Go to youtube and enter raw recipes. There are a lot of cooking shows on you tube. PM me for a couple of good raw forums to check out.

Moretta did you order the eating raw for 1 or 2 people book?

I'm transitioning to 25% raw (fruitarian) this Saturday after a liquid protein fast thru Friday.

I may make my own baby food if I can't tolerate whole foods. This week I ate some banana & applesauce and did ok. I have a honeydew to cut tonight.

Wait a second?..........She had lost weight by NOT eating raw and had loose skin, and then she went raw and the loose skin went away????????????? OMG, that's great!!

I'm pretty much keeping it simple really.

Breakfast

Green smoothie with greens and fruit

Lunch

Salad with avocado

Dinner

Salad with nuts

Water, but not as much as when I was low carbing. I feel my body doesn't need as much from all the veggies and fruits that I consume per day. My body seems to do just fine like this with not as much water like before.

I would love to start dehydrating, but that would be like a whole day thing on a weekend probably. There is not time during the week to do this kind of stuff.

Raw is so wonderful, but have to plan for it ahead of time especially dehydration meals nothing like the stove you can cook something last minute.

I just got told I have to take mega doses of vit D by the Dr. I don;t know if it's related to eating vegetarian........

Today I had a smoothie with a little blueberry juice, a pear, a plum, and a banana w/ rice protein powder. It was good. I had no baby spinach to throw in this time.
