Crohnie,
I let everyone know you've posted the new thread. Not sure that they remembered you said you were going to. Hopefully, they will follow!

Thanks for starting the new thread! Today is my 3rd day and this morning I was already in ketosis, so was really excited about that. I'm also down 6 pounds from yesterday to today on my home scale. I'll try to avoid weighing myself at home, but I couldn't help it. That really motivated me though and I went to the gym today and did 30 minutes on the treadmill and my husband showed me how to do some of the weight machines.

Disarray: Sounds like you are doing a great job! 6lbs on the third day is an excellent start!!

I weighed on Wednesday - down 5 lbs!! I enjoyed my sister and her family last week, but glad she left with her doughnuts, jello-fruit salad, cookies and ice cream!!! I did eat tooo many peaches last week and it will probably show on the scale this week, but I am proud of myself for saying no to all the junk my sister bought while she was here.

I see there is another Wichita, KS poster! We are definately going to need to set up a meetup! (I think that makes 4).

Thanks G2GM! I think just getting that boost of motivation was worth the $268! Congrats on your five pounds! I am hoping to be at my first goal of 75 pounds by Christmas. Do you think that is do-able?

Losing hope fast

Today is day 3, and the lack of anything but meat has given me a constent headache, very very loose BM's, and I'm already sick of only meat. To top it off, I just tested and I'm not in Ketosis yet.

So I'm beginning to lose hope . . . . . . I'm beginning to doubt my ability to eliminate ALL bread in my life.

sigh

HELP!

Hey Boston, don't give up hope, we all have been there to some degree. Look at the other site for suggestions from others on how to endure this first week along with food choices. I love and had crispy turkey bacon and I snacked on turkey sausage (ate like jerky) and even had the special yogurt for low carb and available the first week (there are a couple of brands, the other site mentions it). Hang in there you will probably be in ketosis on day 4, it sounds like your body is preping itself for this way of eating, this is a good thing. Once you have your first weigh-in, the weight loss will inspire you to stick with it. The first week was tough for me as well, your going through a mental change, as well as, the eating change, so everything you are experiencing is normal. You CAN do this, drink lots of water to stay feeling full, this will help you get through any tough moments. Good luck, I look forward to hearing about your loss.

Fonda, congrats on the weight loss. Call my office later this week and lets plan on meeting either this week or next. You are doing sooooo well, so cool!

Hang in there!!!!! Today is my 4th day and the first day I've not had a headache and feel really good.

I've been mixing light tuna with a scant bit of low fat miracle whip and chopping up a pickle to put in it ... it's filling. I also found some better tasting protein shakes at Costco that have 30 grams of protein that I drink for breakfast - very filling and keeps me satisfied until lunch. I found some sugar free jello at wal-mart that only has 5 calories and I've had one of those a day since yesterday.

You can do it. Trust me, if I can do this ANYONE can do this, LOL!

I don't think any of us can stress this enough, but hang in there!!!! I know you can do this and you know you can do it too! If you didn't think you could do it, you wouldn't have started this diet in the first place!!! Get a journal and write in it! Write about all the things you're thankful for. Maybe draw a few pictures depicting your thoughts! Maybe write the things your proud of and your accomplishments and read your journal daily! I think you'll be amazed when you write all the fine things you have and what you have done, and this will give you the most inspiration!!! Plus, when you see the scale in a week, you'll crap your pants with inspiration!!!

Most of us are going to Medi Weightloss, but there are a few following an "at home version" and a few that just watch from the background! We welcome everybody to share though! So, welcome!

I am just doing a low-moderate carb and trying to watch my calories and up my water. This past week I have upped my calories (and ate too many peaches and carbs) and so it will be interesting to see how much I lose. I am just fascinated by the quick losses these ladies are having!

LOSITGIRL: great job on your loss too! I am really pumped this time around - I feel like this is my last time to get it right!!! I will definately give you a call and set something up

Any other Wichita, KS area gals/guys want to get a meetup ?????

You guys, I am seriously freaking out today! Weighed myself again this morning and dropped another 3.5 pounds. That would mean that I have lost 11 pounds since Thursday. How on earth is this even possible? This is like Biggest Loser weight loss!

Congratulations.....it is a real incentive and a tremendous motivator to lose that quickly. But lets keep in mind these facts....It is mostly water loss the first few weeks. It takes a 3,500 calorie deficit to lose one pound. If your BMR is around 1700 calories, that is just the calories needed to breathe, exist. Any deficits created (ie: 500 calories per day on Medi) will create quicker weight loss. .
Low carb weight loss plans are very popular because initial weight loss is more rapid than with regular diets. It's great to see a weight loss of 5-6 pounds in your first week, even if most of the weight lost isn't body fat but simply muscle glycogen and water.Carbohydrate provides essential energy for the brain, red blood cells. It is also the principal fuel source for strenuous muscular activity. So we definitely need some carbs, albeit complex ones (fruits/veg) are always the better choices.

How Low Carb Dieting Works
In the absence of sufficient dietary carbohydrate, our system turns first to its reserve store of carbs (glycogen), located in the liver and muscles, in order to provide fuel for muscular activity. Burning this store of glycogen typically leads to an immediate loss of weight, as one gram of glycogen binds 4 grams of water. For example, if you burn 400 grams of glycogen then at the same time you lose 1600 grams of water: a total of 2 kilos (2.2 pounds) of body weight.

You Lose Water Weight Not Body Fat
Notice, that - whatever the scales say - you have lost no body fat. And when you recommence eating carbs, the first thing your body does is to replenish its glycogen + water reserve.

Almost any nutritionist or personal trainer will tell you that nutrition is the key to weight loss. That being said, it is important to not decrease your carbs so much, that you have no glycogen to do the work you need to do **cardio, weight training--to get into shape and feel strong, look lean and toned. Just take a look at those who have lost weight rapidly via Gastric Bypass, and you can tell the difference. These individuals can look sallow, gaunt, and depleted.
Personally speaking, since I increased my complex carbs, continued to eat low fat protein, and increased my daily calorie intake-- I feel 100% better than just eating protein alone with a smidge of fruit/veg. I am no longer constipated, and feel full of energy at the gym. I typically do 45 minutes of heavy weight training, and 30-40 min of HIIT on the elliptical or bike 3x per week. I think Medi is a good jumping off point, but it is not realistic to stay on this WOE for too long. Keep your diet clean, work out diligently, and get enough sleep. The rest of it will take care of itself.

I just had my first appointment this morning and I'm starting the plan tomorrow. I asked if I could start today but the doctor said no. (strange, huh?) So I'm going food shopping today. I'm also feeling a little nervous about all of this. I'm not used to taking pills and eating so little. It's really encouraging to read that most everyone is losing weight on this plan. Hopefully, it'll work for me too!

Fonda: Me, Me, Me!! Let me know when and where and if at all possible, I'll come!

I'm into my second week, started on July 24, and am down 7 lbs. I know I'm not losing as fast as those on the plan, but I'm happy with my progress so far. Ask me when I plateau after 25 lbs. gone and see how I am. That's usually were I stop and get frustrated, then quit whatever I'm doing and gain it back. Hopefully, that won't happen this time around.

Have a great Monday everyone!

Hi all, I just wanted to stop by and say "HI"!!! I went today for my 4th week WI and I'm down 20.1 pounds!!!!!! That's 20 lbs in 1 month, I just can't even believe it. It makes me just want to keep going and going. I'd also like to say that looking back on all the issues I had with that dreaded 1st week it was all worth it.

Good luck everyone

Beachgirl, congratulations for taking the first steps to saving your life. Good idea to prep yourself tonight so you can have a successful 1st day. We are all here to support you, the first week is the toughest as you probably have read but as Disarray mentioned well worth it. Please keep us posted on your progress.

Disarray, congratulations on the weight loss, you rock! Everyone is doing so well.

Sarah & Fonda, we have to figure out the best place for us to meet. Any suggestions?

I don't drink the medi shakes, but some women in my clinic say that they mix 1T of sugar free pudding mix in with theirs and say it is much better. Some also toss in some berries.

I like that chocolate pudding idea a lot! How much do they charge for the shakes at Medi? I just got 2 samples with my starter kit.
