Hello Grove's followers

Almost finished reading NHWL, up to the menus & recipies. Might read it again.

How do you feel about this way of eating ? Have you been on Atkins before? Also do you eat fruit & what do you do about sweetners. I can't believe how bad that soya is, gonna get past it but I'm worried about it cause I had a soy baby, didn't even look for that ingredient in the label, I feel bad about that. How much cheese are you eating in a daily basis?

I am a huge fan!

I did Atkins and was successful to a point 4 years ago (never, ever ONCE hit that 50lbs loss.. maintained at 49lbs lost for a long time though). I was stuck in a challenge with BarbDe for the LONGEST time, racing to the 150's and it never happened LOL.

It took me 8 months last time to lose what I have lost this time in 3.5 months, eating more fat and less carbs. (mind you the first 3-4 months on Atkins I was not following DANDR, but the restof the time I was). Plus I am MUCH smaller at 175 than I was at 175 last time. (And not working out). Hubby is the same way... he is much more muscular at 170-ish than he was at 170 on Atkins, and he FEELS stronger and better too.

I feel 40X better, and am no longer on the prowl for ways to sweeten up my lowcarb plan. The muffins, bars, shakes etc, are a distant memory.. and I eat only whole foods.

He also eased my mind about my 'lack of veggies and fruits' in my diet.. and I understand how one would NEEd to eat 5 a day of each, if they were not feeding their bodies properly at the cellular level. I can eat them in small amounts and keep my blood sugary mood swings at bay, when I remember eating 20 carbs and just never quite felt right... and always wanting more and feeling frustrated and deprived.

Sweeteners have become very low on my radar with NH&WL, I used to to use 1 packet of splenda in my cup of coffee and find that far too sweet now. I use a little splenda but try to use more stevia and Xylitol than the splenda now.

I love Atkins and cherish what I learned, but this is the way for me

Enza: Please come over and join us..We would love to have you or any other Barry followers.

Barry is "basically" all about the amount of protein for each of us..Too much can act like carbs and it's better to eat more fatty meats, etc..

Barry's recipes are a bit "English" for me..So, most of us don't make any of them..

NHWL is so easy to read..I just love that book.

Why did they move this thread? I was all set to read tons of responses and learn about Barry Groves and then someone buried it here! I am disappointed. There are so many off topic threads on the main board. Why move this one?

I don't know, all I know is nobody will find it here unless they already know about it.

And they will never know about it if they don't see it.

Your guess is as good as mine.

Hi Prozak,

Do you take the coconut oil?

I'm kinda confused as what to do with my WOE now. I'm still Atkins but eat too much cheese. I'm getting on the scale on Friday & try to decide what to do. Gonna read the book again, don't know if I can get off sweetners too..love chocolate so much.

Do you have any advice for some one who's already on Atkins?

Hi, Prozak!

I wanted you to know that I should be receiving Barry Groves' new book any day now. I ordered it from Amazon.

As I have told you before, I have gone sooooo long without losing anything, pounds or inches. Soooo frustrated that I decided to do a clean Induction again, but I haven't felt very well since I started. I am just listless and foggy. I am on Day 7 today, but I decided I had to up my carbs, which would still be in line with EFGT. I am plugging my food into Fitday, so I'm watching the ratios. What calorie range do I strive for?

My son is getting married in September, and I really, really want to look halfway decent for the wedding. Of course, I want to find what works for me and is the healthiest, etc., but I have gone so long without losing, I am about to give up hope!

Thanks for any feedback. You are always so inspiring to me!

Prozak,

How many carbs are you eating a day? You say you don't need much fruit or vegetables and have left the lc treats behind. Where are your carbs coming from, or are you eating extremely low amounts? I thought I read someone else's post that Barry Groves says you can eat more carbs and lose. I know I'm confusing something here. Still looking for the plan for me...

I get from 8-20 a day, I feel better this way and do NOT miss them one bit.

I get my carbs mainly from heavy cream, cream cheese, eggs, blueberries, full fat greek yogurt, red peppers, broccoli and nutritional yeast. I limit my cheese to an oz or 2 every few days, not because it stalls me, but because I am never wanting to 'snack'.. but if I am in a hurry I will grab a chunk with a slice of ham on the go.

Some days I might have a handful of cherries or share a juicy peach with my DD, but on those days I need to be aware of the cravings they cause me later. I totally avoid grains, nuts and any type of low carb muffin or bar... because they make me feel like crap. It was 3 years ago when I found that whole grains give me a rip roaring headache.

It is DEFINITELY a YMMV kind of thing... but for me it is the best way to keep me stable and energetic and happy. Lucky for me, I also enjoy eating this way

Thanks Prozak! I'm glad you've found what works for you. How many carbs does Groves say per day? I had his first book, it was an ebook, but I can't remember what he said.

I've been reading up on this plan as well and am interested... His plan calls for 10-15 percent carbs/ 20-25 percent protein/60-70 percent fat....or 30-40 grams of carbs per day...

Anyone else out there getting ready to start.... I'm considering it....

I ordered and read his book, also. I was really pumped after reading this book and really believe that the ratios are great for our overall health as well.
I was following his plan, but I getting so many calories! I am not clear on how much to eat to lose weight. I know about the ratios and was doing well keeping the ratios, but my calories were around 2,000!

I have asked several that follow that plan if they watch their calories, etc., but I have never gotten an answer, so I'm not sure WHAT to do!

Well I was eating like that on Atkins and not losing, and to be honest I am still having a difficul time losing. But ultimately, most of these doctors say that for some people a calorie deficit is required.... So you can go to one of the online weight loss calculators and see how many calories you need to consume to lose however many pounds you want to lose per week... Make sure you are getting in your protein and build your meals around that....

I know for sure there is one lady who does the program who eats twice a day....her caloric intake is definitely not that high...but she isn't starving herself either...

Thanks for your response!

I have been on Atkins since June '07, and I have struggled to lose weight. I have portion control issues for sure!

I do believe in eating higher fat, but it is so easy for those calories to add up!

Hi fellow Barry fans..

The "deal" with the calories is that each of us is different. Some lose on 1500 calories, other on more, most others on less than that. Many of us just watch the carbs, the proteins and don't worry about the fat too much. Each of us comes "from a different place" with our eating patterns, I think.

Barry and his wife do not overeat. In fact, they eat 2 regular sized meals and one small one at dinner. That has worked for him for years. Of course, they are both extremely
active, too..They live in England and probably walk/bike places where we would take a car..LOLO.

If a person isn't losing lowcarbing, then they are probably eating too much food..(even lowcarb food). That is assuming that their carbs are from dairy and veggies and a bit of fruit.

Come join on August Meltdown Challenge..We will start another one September 1st..We usually do monthly posts.. and once a month weigh-ins.

Yes, I have struggled too....did it for almost 4 months and a 4 pound net loss all of that time... Yes, the calories do add up fast. The condiments alone that I was eating were in excess of 100 calories each...

Hey Carolyn, I have read many of your posts in the EFGT threads.... I agree that I was probably eating too much food which is why I just started tracking my food again in Fitday... Thanks I may join the September group....
