Barb Thanks for posting all that info...a lot of talk going on about it, and I, for one, am glad to be seeing a positive take on what we've known for a long time.
Melissa Oh honey, we've all been depressed for one reason or another, and venting and sharing can be like a good release of toxins. Please share, if you care to, cause we are all here to help one another. We all can't be doing well all of the time, so when we have those down times, this thread can be invaluable.Missalissa Haven't planned my menu for today, which is unusual, but because I have no junk in the house, it should be farily easy for me to whip up something quickly. Not too hungry, so will start with a loaded egg cream this morning. By loaded, I mean....chia seeds, Magma Plus, coconut milk, flax meal, and protein powder along with the usual organic eggs and Calorie Countdown. Elaine Wonderful you're getting rid of so much 'stuff'. My project is an ongoing process of getting rid of so much that sometimes, I feel ashamed......so have decided to give it to charity so that someone else can use these items. Rachel, that is so cool that you may be meeting Mark's children......I bet you're excited about that, eh?! Katy What a beautiful thing you're doing in donating part of your body to save another.........I believe that is the ultimate in giving!! So selfless!! We're expecting another friend to come in today for a few days. We are really enjoying our open door policy! ![]()

We went through a period where we had several people staying with us for extended periods. They were all going through some sort of crisis. I told DH that I was going to put a sign on the front door that said "Haven for Wayward Souls".

Well, thank goodness, no one who is visiting us is experiencing any crisis. I just love the fact that they're coming for the 'fun' of it. My sil was supposed to stay for 3 days, and ended up here for a week. We're always having company, but it does seem to run in spurts. Next weekend we'll be having company again, and I like it more than going away. It is the best motivation for me to keep my house clean and organized. ![]() |

I know it has been awhile, but things been totally crazed here. I was working as a personal assistant for a woman who I won't even say what name I think when I think of her here, to spare you all- she was mean, bitter and vindictive, and oh lets not forget spiteful. No one else would work for her, and I SOON found out why! I was working 16 hr. days, and she had no regard for my disability. She was only suppose to use me for balance, and she used me for ballast. She would actually pull ME off of my heels!
The last night I worked- which I was BEGGED to work, because I had quit and the boss MORE than understood why- anyhow she put ALL HER WEIGHT ON ME, and my knee and back are messed up worse than ever. I am now officially divorced. The *@$*^$%@ ex-husband has residential custody of our daughter which is a long story why. Basically it boils down to, his family has LOTS of $$ & they were bent on hurting me by taking her from me. I am TIREd of trying to change my weight. FIVE WEEKS, and ALMOST SIX weeks of Stillmans and I am to my beginning weight. I have NOT cheated even with all of the drama going on- so I am just thinking of saying to hell with dieting- this is who I am, and stop being so upset about being a larger woman. I ain't ugly, just I know it would do my back and legs better to lose more weight- I am just thoroughly and totally disgusted with the results I have. I doubt my regain is all due to muscle growth- i am fitting in smaller clothes- just a bummer to not see the numbers drop and even go back up to PREDIETING! ON THE DR'S SCALE I EVEN SHOWED A FOUR POUND GAIN! I cried I was so upset! I have a book from PREVENTION called the FLAT BELLY DIET, which lets me eat chocolate- so MAY give that a try. I could POSSIBLY have plans in 3 wks. to meet someone I have known since early Dec. online & I DO want to look good for that! ANYHOW- got things to do- won't let as much time lapse next time- and sorry about venting-- hugs to all.

got this in an email this morning; wow talk about TIMING!
My exercise instructor recently asked my class the question, "When do people tend to quit?" One woman in the class replied, "When they hit a plateau" Our instructor nodded, and asked, "Do you think they tend to give up at the beginning of a plateau, or at the end of the plateau?" When his query was met with silence, he answered it himself, explaining that most people tend to give up on something after some time passes and there appears to be no further progress. In other words, most people quit right before they would have been about to begin the next growth curve of continued progress. We can hit plateaus in any area of our lives, not just physical endeavors, in any situation where we discover that our forward progress is thwarted and we appear to be going nowhere. One of the best things to do in the face of such seemingly stagnant or stuck situations is to ask ourselves what can be learned... what can be changed... in ourselves. These questions will likely bring us face-to-face with some of the most challenging lessons in life, where we meet elements of our shadow side -- the parts of our psyche which are least illuminated and consciously embraced. While we may feel uncomfortable surveying shadow aspects of ourselves, they often contain keys to helping us find our inspiration and true joy in life, as well as ways to achieve goals we might otherwise consider to be impossible. Such insights have the power to help us access the energy required to lift ourselves up out of our current plateau and onward to the next level of success. I met a wonderfully inspired artist, Misty Gamble, this past month who creates sculpture that helps people face the shadow side aspects within themselves. Some of her sculptures leave viewers feeling uncomfortable, despite their initial cheerful appearance from a distance, since closer inspection reveals the uglier shadow side motivations which most of us typically choose to ignore. Misty's sculptures help viewers better understand how pursuit of superficial motivations can lead to superficial success. Misty shows the world through her shining personal example of being an artist living true to her own dreams just how much each of us can achieve when we have the courage to face our fears and confront our shadow side. <img alt="Yoko Ono Ceiling Painting Yes" hspace="5" vspace="5"> Yoko Ono's YES Ceiling Painting Another artist, Yoko Ono, once created a ceiling painting which was best viewed by climbing a ladder up to the ceiling, and then using a magnifying lens... to discover the single word, "Yes." When singer John Lennon climbed the ladder and saw the word, "Yes," he knew the artist who created this work was very special... and Yoko's message to herself, John Lennon, and all of us is that no matter how difficult the world may seem, we can find the "Yes," by climbing just a bit higher. If you take a moment now to consider an area of your life where no matter what you do, it seems the situation is just not budging one single centimeter... ask yourself what shadow side issue within yourself might be addressed. Know that whatever you see is a part of you which might need listening to... which might need tending to... which might need some of your conscious attention. Knowing that the best way to get good results in life is changing oneself is a secret the masters know... and it is something each and every one of us can discover for ourselves, in order to make our next quantum leaps forward. Wishing you may discover just how good your life can get, Last edited by Wolfpax24 : 07-17-2008 at 10:46 AM. |

Wolf, thanks for that input. Very thought provoking!
I just wanted to stop by again before I get busy. I was on another thread about how to firm up arms, which is a real trouble spot with me since I had both rotator cuff procedures. I'm going to do wall pushups every time I am through doing dishes and before I head to the bathroom at the sink. I could easily join the challenge, but I thought it would help our thread a bit if we could do it right here. Any takers? The idea came from: how can i firm up.............. |

Wolfpax, oh yes, please join us........
Well, I came back to tell you that I did the last 50 for a total of 70 for the day. I wanna tell ya, I struggled with the last 15 really really bad! I've been lifting weights...5 lbs., for awhile now, and these wall pushups were a lot more difficult for me, and I am lifting 3 sets of 15.. Of course I'm lifting my own body weight rather than 10 lbs., but whoa, they were hard, and I'm feeling the burn. If we keep this up, I'll be wearing my tank tops a lot more often. ![]() Have a good night's rest, all, and I'll cya all in the morning! |

Got up this morning, went to the bathroom to take care of business and get my first 30 done. OMG!! My arms are stinking sore this morning! 30 down right now. Thanks Gracie, I needed this challenge to motivate me to add something else to my routine! I even rode my spin bike last nite too! Only because it didn't require any upper body strength to do it! ![]() Body weight exercises are great aren't they? They require no equipment, nothing to buy. You just do them. You can slightly change the focus of muscles simply by moving the position of your hands. Batwings be gone!! ![]()

Wall Push ups
Wall Push Ups is an excellent Upper Body, Body Weight Exercise. When done correctly it can build amazing Chest and Arms strength and a strong upper body
Purpose - To Build Muscle and Strength in the Chest and Triceps Wall Push Ups is a wonderful Bodyweight Exercise which I recommend to beginners . If doing classic push ups is difficult then you can start with either Wall Push Ups or Incline Push Ups to build strength. Execution Steps Stand straight with your feet about 2-4 feet from a wall. Now lean forwards and place your hands on the wall with bent elbows. Now push your body back to starting position using your hands. |

Close Arm Wall Push Ups
Starting Position
Start facing wall, arms-length away, feet slightly apart, legs straight with weight on toes. Place hands on wall with pointer fingers and thumbs forming a triangle. Keep arms in line with shoulders/chest (not above or below this region). Action INHALE: Bend elbows about 90 degrees and lower body toward the wall without touching it. EXHALE: Straighten arms and return to starting position to complete one rep. Special Instructions The further your feet are away from the wall, the more difficult this exercise will be. Also be sure not to lock knees or elbows. Muscles Worked: Chest, Triceps, Shoulders |

Ah, Missalissa, you googled it too!
![]() I know a lot of people use the sink, but since I saw some of the videos using the wall, that's what I did this morning.......30 down, ??? to go! Arms are shaking!! OK, so we started this yesterday on the 17th, and I'm going to keep some sort of record to see if this does more than my other routine. If it does, I'll probably stick with it! This is so very doable, and I love the change from my routine! |

Missalissa, one question!
In one of the videos, it instructed to keep feet flat on the floor, and another to keep the weight on toes, which would raise the heels.....little confused, but the arms are still being worked, either way. Which do you do? |

I'm using the wall right now. Not enough room in bathroom at work to use the counter because it is so short and I would have to stretch out in an incline position. Might try it that way at home. For now, I'm just going to use the wall. I think I talked my boss into doing these too! I'm trying both variations today. When I do the ones with my feet flat on the floor, I feel more of a stretch in my calves. I think either way would be acceptable! 60 down and it's only 9:10 am here! Started my first set of 25 wall pushups a short time ago. Just looked at some pictures on the net & one of them had the person touching their nose to the wall. Is anyone doing it like that?
