Happy Friday IFers! Pray that all is well!
I'm almost caught up at work, so I should be around a little bit more today. You know, I was really fooling myself into thinking that things would slow down with school out and it being summertime. WRONG!! I think it's worse!! Trying to recover from camp, and now I have to start thinking about VBS because it starts in a little over two weeks! YIKES! The week after that DD leaves for a week for her EIA trip. Then when she gets back on 8/8, the next week she will have 2 a days volleyball practice (welcome to high school). Then school starts on the 8/25. Summer's gone. Jeez, I swear school was let out yesterday! Gotta go get some work done! Keep it simple everyone!

Good morning ladies! I am 1/2 way thru my fast, and so far so good! I am not usually hungry in the mornings anyways so fasting thru the morning isn't difficult. My main problem is fighting afternoon boredom at work which often leads to snacking. I am confident that things will be fine as long as I keep myself busy!
A little about myself...I am trying to lose the weight I put on during tax season. I have the same problem as Rachael, I have gained weight for the past 3 years from Jan-April. I end up losing all of it (I obsess about it thru the summer and then when I stop worrying about it it comes off in the fall) just go gain it back. I am sick of this pattern and want to break it. I also want to get my body fat down to around 18%, but short term I just want to fit into my clothes! I should be able to do that with a 5-8 lb. weight loss. I am moving from a very small town in NM to Golden, CO next month. I will be starting a nutrition therapy program at a school up there in Sept. I am really looking forward to living in a more healthy community and having access to Farmers' Markets and organic food stores. It is going to be an exciting new start. Thanks for all of the welcomes! I'll let you know how the rest of the day goes!

Ragdoll - I will be attending the Nutrition Therapy Institute in downtown Denver. It is a private holistic school. The program is 2 years long, consisting of 3 quarters each year, 2 classes a quarter. This will include 2 learning retreats and an internship. I will graduate as a Certified Nutrition Therapist. This will enable me to help people treat various conditions with their diet as well as give general nutrition guidelines.
I already have an accounting degree, but after working in public accounting I have decided to pursue a career that I will enjoy! I can always fall back on my accounting skills if I have to. Ultimately I would like to work in an office with other holistic practitioners and start my own consulting practice specializing in weight loss. |

Just to let you know, I've started doing more of a CAD thing in addition to the IF, and the dizziness is better. I think I will stick to this until I can get in and get my blood pressure meds adjusted. Looks like LC and IF will be good for lots of things besides weight loss - blood sugars and blood pressure getting down to normal.. those are big things.

![]() Tori Thanks for answering all my questions on the Nutrition Therapy Institute & their classes. I am really into holistic healing & wish you the very best as you pursue the certification. Am looking forward to hearing all about the classes once you start school. How did you do yesterday with your fasting? Melissa Glad to hear that the LC is working so well with lowering your BP & BS. Aren't you afraid that CAD might mess up what's working so well for you? My understanding is that while CAD works o.k. for certain folks, it doesn't get you into ketosis and can cause a weight gain when first switching over to it. I try to follow a CAD RM when I go out for an "indulgence" meal but usually run over the one hour time limit. The scale was again kind to me this A.M. & it looks like I'm back to my signature weight, ![]() I had seen a some lower numbers a few weeks ago but they didn't stick around for any amount of time. Now I'm hoping to join CarolinaSweetie in the high 120's in the next few weeks. I am not going to refer to any one number as my "goal". I hope to be able to maintain whatever new numbers show up without the scale bouncing all over the place. Still refining what foods can stall me out & to eliminate them as much as possible from my daily menu. I had my bathroom ripped apart yesterday as there was mucho black mold under the old wallpaper in the corner of the room near the ceiling & outside wall. The repairman will be back to finish sealing up the new sheet rock on Monday. I'm debating if I should try to paint some of the room before he gets here or if I'll use the paper illusions instead of painting the room. Hope everyone has a great Saturday & rest of the weekend ![]()

Happy Saturday morning all.
Still busy with putting furniture together and getting things the way I like them. I put quite a bit of stuff into my closets to make room for the carpenters, and now I'm looking at another serious "let's get rid of more stuff" day. Mark will come over and help me work today and then we're going out for a relaxing dinner and a movie tonight. It's going to be a great day. ![]() Barb, congrats on being back at your signature weight. I'm glad you're getting the mold problem fixed. Melissa, sounds like you feel best when you eat *just the right amount* of carbs, is that about right? You need a little more than you get on straight induction? No matter what you choose, I know you are committed to your health right now. The rest will fall into place, I think. Tori, that program sounds fantastic! Oh, I can't wait to hear more about it.See you all a bit later or maybe tomorrow! Work your plan, no matter what it is. Be good to yourself. Rachel |

Good afternoon everyone! I am killing some time before heading out to see the movie "The Wanted." I am hoping it is good since it is our only choice (small town, one screen theater).
My fast was a success! It wasn't a complete 24 hours, I quit eating on Thursday night around 10pm and officially started eating yesterday around 6pm. So I made it 20 hours. I did have half of an apple with some pb around 3, so it wasn't a true fast according to Eat Stop Eat, but I still think it went well. My discoveries are as follows: 1. It wasn't hard at all!! I got hungry, but the feeling passed quickly. 2. The main reason I felt I had to eat was due to habit, i.e. breakfast time, lunch time, snack time, I'm bored let's see what's in kitchen... 3. I could have gone even longer w/out eating, it seems to get easier the longer you do it. 4. The fast did not affect my workout that I did at 5pm before I broke the fast. So I have decided that this just might work for me. Brad Pilon advocates fasting 2 days a week for weight loss and 1 day a week for maintenance. Fasting for more than 2 days a week can theoretically increase your weight loss, but he feels like that defeats the purpose because then it feels like a diet. I am going to try another fast again tomorrow and do it "for real" except for the milk in my coffee. I just can't do black!! I have a b-day party to go to next Friday, and I would love to fit into a pair of jeans by then, so I think I may try fasting Tuesday and Thursday next week as well. For more info on this book and lots of other great info you can also check out Brad Pilon's blog The Nutrition Help Blog - Food, Fasting and Health. I am a self proclaimed blog junkie and can spend hours on end reading them! More later! |

Tor, Mark and I saw The Wanted, and it was pretty good. A little bit different, but I liked it. Some intriguing plot points to think about too. Glad your fasting experience was a good one.
Gracie, hope you're having a happy Saturday! Mark and I are getting the hang of this furniture assembly thing. We are so much in synch that it's amazing. Who knew that putting furniture together could be such a bonding experience? |

Oooh, I have time for another quick post, since it's 7 am, and everyone is still sleeping.
Tori, thanks for posting that link. When I have more time, I will read it. I do know that fasting one day a week is helpful in detoxing the body, so it should make for interesting reading. Rachel, I am sooo delighted to read that you are enjoying Mark's company, and to know that you're 'in like'. Barbara, thank you for all your support, and listening to me when I most needed it! We had a delightful dinner last night in one of our favorite restaurants by the ocean. You'd think I would have had some sort of fish, but I opted for egg parm without the linguine and a Greek salad, but did have a couple of saltines with crab meat. My stomach must be shrinking, because I couldn't finish it all, so was pleased about that. I am loving the discussion about 'goals' and so agree with the fact that as soon as we start to lose weight, we are maintaining a new, or in my case, my regular WOE. I allowed myself those two saltines with last night's dinner, not with any guilt, but knowing I would be back to my regular eating habits today. If we know our bodies well enough, we also know how much we can allow ourselves before indulging too much. This is a lifetime deal, so I feel it needs to be as comfortable as possible, without feeling deprived. I'd love to keep this discussion going, as I think it pinpoints a lot of our frustrations with the scale and it allows our mindsets to open a bit.

![]() Gracie Glad you had a little time this A.M. to post on this thread. I also like discussing what our true "goals" should be. I think for most of us that learning how to maintain our lower body fat & new numbers on the scale is the true long-term goal. Nobody wants to slide back into "mindless" or binge eating & then see a regain of body fat. I know that I have to be ever vigiliant & keep track of what I'm putting in my mouth along with checking to see what the scale & my clothes say. Every time in the past when I became "cocky" & thought that the hard work was over, I slid right back into thinking I could eat anything I wanted & we all know what happens when that mindset takes over. Rachel Glad to hear that you & Mark can work so well together Hope to see pictures of your completed condo soon.Tori Congrats on doing good on the fast. Hope you can see your goal of wearing the jeans to the party next week. I'm happy to say that the scale is being very kind & I'm within 2/10ths of a lb of being back to the lowest number that the scale had recorded a few weeks ago. I'm eating lots of LC food and feel like I'm overdoing it but guess it's what my body wants to continue on-going fat burning. to everyone reading this thread. |

Happy Sunday morning, all.
Don't you love that sound when the coffee is finishing up and the coffee maker is making that kind of burbling sound? I do. I am sitting here on my loveseat and enjoying having side tables and a coffee table this morning. Boy, I sure do I the color on my walls. It was a really good choice (I am not always the best at choosing colors, so it makes me very happy to have this one be a hit!) I am happy to be sleeping all night long again. I didn't realize how sleep deprived I was from sleeping on the floor at night. It's much better. ![]() Gracie, I think it's definitely a good discussion. On a weight loss board, it's easy to think that it's the thinner, the better. That's not always the case. On a weight loss board, it's also very easy to look at other people at my height and think, "she's that thin, I should be that thin, too." There are posters here who look fantastic at 110-115 pounds and they are my height. The thing is, we can't all go around comparing our shapes and sizes to each other. I think it's more important to find a balance where we are content with who we are, both mentally and physically. I think to myself: if I was six pounds lighter, how would my life change? The fact is: it wouldn't change at all. At 41, I can't lose six pounds and suddenly look like a model anyway. The truth is, I have gray hair, wrinkles, an imperfect smile, a few scars, etc. That doesn't mean I'm not going to take care of myself. I am going to keep eating healthy and exercising. I am going to keep coloring my hair and keeping my skin hydrated and etc. But at some point, I have to embrace myself for who I am. OK, enough philosophy for the AM. Time for some coffee! ![]() Have a wonderful Sunday, all. I'm hoping to get a couple of pieces of furniture put together and I need to shop for table lamps. Barb, I'm excited to take pictures when it's all put back together again. ![]() Rachel |

Melissa Why not try calling the Dr. to see if he will lower at least your BP meds? Hope you can get in to see him soon. Today the construction guy should be back to finish patching up the dry wall in my bathroom. Tomorrow, my contractor will be here to replace the flooring in my living room & hallway. Finally things are starting to get done. I still have several other projects to do myself and am looking forward to everything being finished by the beginning of August. The new low didn't stick around again but it's a new week and I'm hopeful once again to seeing some new lows. Have a great day everyone & I'll check back later to see how everyone is doing ![]() Last edited by Ragdoll24 : 07-14-2008 at 05:11 AM. |

What colors did you choose? It sounds so lovely! Good post about accepting yourself (ourselves) as we are, and to keep on improving with what we have and be the best that we can be. Embracing and truly loving ourselves for who we are is sometimes difficult because of what society dictates, but if we can truly like and respect who we are, that's the ticket! I ebb and flow depending on circumstances, but for the most part, I do like myself and who I am. |

Good morning ladies! I am trying to stay busy at work, but I find that it is always hard for me to stay focused after giving my notice. I move 2 weeks from this Saturday...I am getting excited! The movie on Saturday was pretty good...it reminded me a little bit like the Matrix. I had some popcorn and red vines, I love those things. I had a healthy dinner of homemad |
