Hi daisy and emandm
How are you ladies? Im still doing the same. getting A LITTLE TRIED OF THIS DIET BUT i WILL TAKE IT FOR 5 WEEKS. i MUST SAY i FEEL BETTER. washed HAIR AND GOT DRESSED AND SHOULD VACUME AND GET THINGS MOVING. watched THE DEBATE on TV. Sorry about the big letters. hit wrong key. I think too Im going to count cals.and just see where Im at. I do think too at least for today Im going to make a grilled veg. Burger on George Foreman and put that on my salad. For 1 bugar is only 110 cals. Going to curves later too. Going to rain so better leave so I don't melt. ha. Take care. Im also looking at vegetation site. Still think I might be better off Doing lacto ovo. I think I can have chicken breast and fish?? Hope all is well. Kind |

Hi kind, my philosophy is always to do what works for you. So if you are getting bored with your woe and want to add a veggie burger go for it. It won't stall your weight loss. Last night I had a pizza pocket! lol Definately not on Fuhrman's plan, but I needed something fast (lack of planning) and I am ok with it. The problem for some people is they have the all-or-nothing thinking. So for me, I had the pizza pocket, a ton of veggies and fruit and moved on. For other people, they would see that as "falling off the wagon" and have a total binge and blow their woe for days. So I say minor tweaks are all part of the learning process.
Do what works for you! Pam |

Hi Sweep.
Yes I have jacks juicer. His wife sent me her book called Total juicing. It is a good book. Has lots of tips. Like when you want to lose weight to cut calories on juicing with veg. and or fruit add half water. It will cut calaries. I love Carrot and apple.together, *apple- and blueberry delight. *Pear can be use with apple.lemon .water.{ Or just pear and apples. * big red 2 med. carrots 1 large bell pepper and 2 small apples. Triple Grape juice 1/2lb. of each. red. green . purple. If you need more recipes let me know. I just got mine couple months ago. Need to juice more vegs. too. I keep saying Im going to juice something and havent. But will for sure tonight. Carrot and apples. You will do fine. Come here and we have your back. Janet |

Hi Emandm
I did have with my salad .veg. bugar and no cal.dressing. It was good. I get so down on self when that scale doesn't move down. But one thing I wont stop. I think i need something more then beans and greens. Just that veg.bugar made a big diff. Now tonight another salad and will have cabbage soup. and tea. Went to curves and had a good work out. And like I told Sweep. Im making me some apple and carrot juice. I know he says Not to. but it is fresh so I see no harm. will add little water to lessen calaries. Going to for rest of this week count calaries just to see where Im at. Do I need to count salads?/ I know dressing yes. but greens have so little cals. I would think.{No Darn dogs are barking. Janet Ps. So glad you all are here to help. You all are doing so good. And sweep that means utoo. Daisy you are doing so well.and emandm you are too. I hope I can do as all you soon. this is kinda new to me on this way of eating. BUT I feel greatand clean. Take are. |

Also from reading if you have a good blender or food processor you can still juice.
Also For sweep you can juice fruit with Jacks juicer and if you would like a smoothie you can add banana and add fresh juice in a blender. Still have Not juiced yet. But after saying about smoothie that sounds good. So far doing good today. At 1 point you would think I would start losing soon. take care all. |

Thanks kind, will check that out.
I get Dr. Mirkin newsletters and today he was speaking about belly fat. Which I have. And he goes on to say that insulin makes belly fat. To avoid refined flour products, which I lean toward eating. Pasta, breads. And to only eat fruits and root veggies with other foods. Its like, such a bummer. I dont know how to rid myself of these foods that are keeping me fat. I have tons of veggies in my fridge to eat. But, do I eat them like I should, nooooo. Any suggestions as to how to not eat so much of the offending foods? sweep |

Sweepthefloor - I am a former junk food addict. I had the biggest sweet tooth and would also eat refined flours and the "bad" carbs all the time. I was following the CAD diet so I was able to maintain my low weight (and have for 10 years). I read Joel Fuhrman's book as I wanted to eat healthier, and I started Oct 1. I haven't had sugar since then and I don't miss it at all. I will have some pie on the weekend because it is our Thanksgiving, but I could easily skip that too. I guess for me not having sugar makes me crave it less. Maybe that will work for you with the refined carbs too? It's worth at try.

Hi.
Our daughter and Grand baby was here for weekend. Had a good time. In fact to good of time. Went off diet and had Pizza and chips. But Im back on today. gained 2 lbs. My daughter thinks Dad and I are nuts eating this way. Thinks it is not good to eat this way.My husband feel great on this and lost so far 14lbs.Lucky him. All I have to do is look at bad food and gain. ha{ But I did eat it this time. ha Do you think if I have 4 fruits a day or more that will be to much?/{Sugar} take care and talk later. Keep up the good work. Janet{Kind] |

Kind I think real fruit can not hurt you.
caned fruit or store bought juices have to much added sugar so I stay away from them. I did not lose any weight this week nor did I gain any either I guess thats good still a little discouraging. Oh well. Maybe I will find a cure to losing weight. I hope |

I think we have to watch our fructose intake.
Fructose-Induced Leptin Resistance Exacerbates Weight Gain what is happening here is that silently, without any obvious symptoms, the body is becoming leptin resistant so that when challenged with a binge on fat/carbs the brain no longer gets the leptin signals to stop eating. This is why anything with High Fructose Corn Syrup is so damaging to the brain. It is destroying the signalling mechanism by blocking the ability to recognise leptin and this leads to the cascade of body weight, adiposity, serum leptin, insulin and glucose increases. Therefore initially I think you should limit high sugar fruits (grapes, bananas, mangos, sweet cherries, apples, pineapples, pears and kiwi fruit) from your diet until your weight starts to normalize and your health improves. I did stop eating grapes/bananas while I was losing weight and only has the odd pineapple/mango but I continued eating apples but that was partly because we had a freezer full of unsweetened stewed apples from last year . |

Hi all.
You know I guess it all comes down to how you feel and how your weight loss or gain is doing. All diets work if we work at it and keep going. I did good today. First day back. I had 1cup beans for diner and I had for lunch salad with no cal. dressing and 2 veg. burgers, I also just made a big glass with some water added to it Fresh made pear apple and half carrot juice. was very good. Im going to fine a book or something that tells how many cals. fruit has. just so I can go back to counting calaries too. Don'T worry emandm Im still doing this with you and Eat to live diet. I must say I feel better with this way of eating. Like I have said before I think I will go more with being a Lacto ovo vegetarian that way I can still have egg beaters and stuff like that. I also like chicken breast grilled on George Foreman. But first thing first and that is to lose this23lbs, |

Hi everyone, I am back from my parents place and we had a great Thanksgiving celebration. I ate pumpkin pie and passion fruit cake and they were delicious. But I was satisfied with small pieces and I didn't go crazy like I thought I would. THey tasted much sweeter than I remembered too, so I think the fact that I had cut out sugar really did change my tastebuds! I've caught up with all the reading and don't worry about your pizza day kind. Sounds like you got right back on track. I eat as much fruit as I want and it has never affected my weight maintenance. I guess everyone is different. Go with what works for you and what you can handle as a woe, not a diet, you know? I don't eat meat, poultry, fish or dairy in general, but the odd time if I feel like it I will (I had some turkey on the weekend).
Good luck everyone! |

Last week, I got a new book called The Flexitarian Diet by Dawn Jackson Blatner, RD. She mentions not to forgo meat entirely but to incorporate more meatless meals into your diet. There are actually 5 senses to taste - Salty, Sweet, Sour, Bitter, and one called "Umami". Umami is a a savory sense. The kind you get from meat, mushrooms, beans, and parmesan cheese. To utilize the umami sense she mentions beans as being on the top of the list. I know a lot of people have problems with soy and low fat dairy. Then again this "diet" isn't low-carb and as for soy, my Asian friends think Americans rely too much on unnatural processed food, whereas soy can be fermented naturally and easily digested into the body. The jury is still out.
If you want to know more about this book, I can add more info later.

Lora - I have heard the same thing your friends have heard. Soy in it's natural form (in moderation like anything else) is ok. It's the fake stuff that is causing a lot of the problems (cancer and the fact that girls are developing way earlier than we used to). I eat a small amount of edamame and miso once or twice a week but that is it. I see a breast cancer specialist and they have a nutritionist and she says this is totally fne (as is tofu in small amounts) but one should avoid the fake processed stuff as much as they can. The book sound interesting. I have heard the term nutritarian too (something like that) for people who like to eat healthily.

Hi, everyone!
I have been successful in eating meatless breakfasts and lunches for the past couple of days. Dark Red Kidney Beans are really filling for such a small portion. I rinse them out thoroughly before I toss into my salad. I do love my boyfriend's homemade chicken salad though!! I had some for dinner and it hit the spot! I don't know as yet if I can be a veggie only gal! LOL |

Hi there! It's been ages since anyone has posted. Kind - are you still following Eat to Live? I am doing pretty well. A few slip-ups but I am really enjoying this way of eating. I have fruit for breakfast, a huge salad for lunch, and some type of bean, pasta or brown rice for dinner. Snacks are nuts, sugar snap peas or more fruit. How are you? How do you feel?

Kind - congrats to your husband, but I bet that is frustrating for you! Tips? Hmmmmm. What helps me is not being hungry, so I would eat a ton of greens and sugar snap peas. Also, if ever I craved something that wasn't on the plan, I would have a small portion of it. He says in the maintenance part you should eat 90% plant-based and 10% whatever you want. That helped me not feel deprived. I think if you stick to any given plan you will eventually lose weight. So try and find one that you can easily live with for the rest of your life.
