I just wanted to drop in and say I am back on a veggie diet.
I was veggie on and off for years.. I just made the most amazing salad sandwhich.. (I am not doing LC really).. I had 10 grain bread and red onions, tomatoes, avocado, black and green olives, red bell pepper, portobello mushrooms, cucumbers and romaine. I sprinkled this fig balsamic dressing on it and then toasted the bread. it was fantastic! tonight I am having Indian spiced veggies for dinner. going to start making my own brown rice veggie sushi.. got to get to the Oriental Market! Night all! cary~

Cary,
Wow...that sandwich sounds sooo delicious. I haven't had meat in a bit and my DD is the reason. She is 19 and decided to go vegan...well almost..she's had a few bites of cheese but is slowly trying to get rid of that. But no eggs at all. I just made a batch of veggies stir fried in water, with "cauliflower rice" and some basmati rice also mixed in, but it is a HUGE batch that will last for quite a few meals and we really like it. Now my 16 yr old DD has been doing it the last week also. I have read a lot of reviews on amazon on the success not only with weight loss but health issues when people use Dr. Furhman's Eat to Live. I also ordered his DVD on coooking healthy. I don't care for soy, so will use almond breeze when it calls for soy milk. Will keep you updated and it's nice to have a place to come and see how everyone is doing and feeling with a new WOE!! I'm feeling great so far!! ![]() |

I would love to keep it that way, as I just joined his website, which gives you tons of recipes and the ebook on line so I have been reading furiously until my full book arrives. But WOW...it ALL makes so much sense about NUTRIENTS
who knew????I am really excited as I have rampid cancer in my family as well as heart disease, so weight loss will definately be a great side effect!!! I have to say, the best thing I have read so far is how humans are primates!! and we look closest to gorillas!!! NEVER saw a gorilla kill a zebra to eat, but rather eat PLANT FOOD!!! Dr. Fuhrman is the first person who EVER made that comparison to me that set off the LIGHT BULB moment So much for humans having carnivor teeth for meat consumption...I'm not getting on any soap box here which is why I am only posting here. And I will always be grateful to Dr. ATkins to even make me start thinking about losing weight...BUT I think this is doable!! I'm feeling really pumped about this right now!!: DH and I are bringing the girls to see the Jonas Brothers in Concert in CT tonight and spending the night so will check back in later. I would love if people would keep this thread going and if not..well, it could just be my personal journal ![]() Have a great "green" weekend everyone! |

Good morning!
I am making some brown rice for lunch. I'll probably add some black beans and some kind of taco seasoning. I like being able to keep my foods pretty simple during the summer. I need to clean out my fridge, too. I've gotten one cabinet reorganized for this way of eating, and I'm ready to get the rest of my kitchen in order, too. (Might not happen today, we'll have to see how ambitious I get!) I haven't read Fuhrman, but I might wander over the bookstore a little bit later. I have read everything on the McDougall site as well as The China Study, Skinny *****, and Eat, Drink and Be Healthy. I'm still kind of trying to decide how much fat I want to include in my way of eating and how often I want to eat seafood and etc. I've also read the Blood Type Diet (I am a type A) and the Geno Type Diet (I am a teacher) and everything I've read points to the idea that I feel my best eating vegetarian. I believe that I am very sensitive to dairy (seems like it swells up my stomach) and am thinking there's a chance that wheat could be a problem as well. I am okay with both of those--I can submit different types of grains and I love rice milk. What I do is that eating this way has taken away all my cravings and eliminated any kind of bingey behavior. I'm just no longer overeating. I think this is my "sweet spot" where I'm getting the right nutrients so my body isn't driving me to keep seeking more food. Or maybe I just need lots of good carbs for my brain to run the way it's suppose to run. Anyway, it's sometimes funny to me that I have these vegetarian tendencies. I grew up in Kansas, on lots of beef. One of my brothers is vegan and my other brother is married to a vegetarian, so it's kind of funny that we all gravitated in this direction. Okay, time to do another fifteeen minutes of cleaning!! |

Hey Rachel,
Long time no see. I stopped dairy and meat in May. Neither digests well. I'm still on the fence with fresh fish, although I haven't eaten any since May. I wish I could say it has stopped my cravings. Maybe that will come. I read The China Study as well. I'm a rice milk drinker too. I made my first cherry pie from fresh cherries I pitted and used and ground almonds and pecans as the crust. Have you tried agave nectar? Low glycemic raw sweetner that is kinda like honey but tastes like sugar with no after taste like stevia (ick). I use it sparingly in my smoothies. I also post on veggieboards.com They have a ton of recipes and food porn and tips. It's just more ative there...I don't know how active this thread will ever be on LCF. I quit popping in because it was so slow, but then this is a LC site. PS my 71 year old uncle beat prostate cancer from 70% raw plant based diet which is what got me started. ![]()

Actually I'm of the opinion that because some nutients essential for human life are found only in meats, we are intended to consume them or our ancestors would be dead w/o supplementation (B12 comes to mind). That said, I choose not to eat meat many reasons.
Maybe this thread will continue here. ![]() ![]() |

My favs are banana/nectarine/pear fruit smoothies w/ rice protein powder and a handful of baby spinach tossed in.
Pizza w/o cheese and loaded w/ sauce and veggies. Corn tortillas w/ avocado, beans and salsa. I could almost go on an all fruit WOE. ![]() |

Hi Wendy!
Good to see you. I read the Eat to Live book today, and it was pretty good. I'm sticking with a low-fat plant based diet but with a handful of nuts allowed daily, I think. I know that dairy is not working for me, and this , I am going to see what happens if I eliminate wheat. I like the "center your meal around a starch" advice from McDougall, but I also like the "eat a big salad at lunch and dinner each day" advice from Fuhrman. So, I think I am going to combine the two and make sure that I am also eating 2-4 servings of fruit a day. I'm okay with stevia on fruit but I dislike it on other things! I tried Agave Nectar when I was experimenting with GenoType diet foods only. It was good but a bit pricey in my area. I'm using a tiny bit of real sugar when I need it these days. Seems like just a tiny bit gives me the flavor I want without all the expense/trial and error to make things work. I love it here and "know" so many people here that I think I'll always post here in some form or another. But I like reading as much as I can from everyone, so I'll check out the place you've mentioned as well! Rachel |

Rice protein powder has 1.5 carbs, 55 cals, .5g fat and 12g protein. If you choose to consume milk products Whey protein is ok too.

![]() At my health food store it's $17, but you use a lot less than standard powders. It comes in Choc, Van, & regular. They also have individual packets at my store so you can try it before buying a whole container. That is how I tried it. I'm glad the sugar is working for you. I use it sometimes. The agave I buy is $3 a bottle and it lasts me a month, but I just use a tsp or so in my morning smoothies. I really want to get away from aritificial sweetners. They won't take poison off the market.. just look at all the aspartame still around. Quote:

Hey ladies..so glad you are still around! Still waiting for Dr. Fuhrman's book to arrive so I can read it thoroughly! I've read excerpts and have an ebook I've been reading.
All I know is that I love having fruit back in my diet and trying to go as raw and veggie as possible. Glad to have some company on this plant based journey ![]() What are your favorite things to buy at TJ's or Whole Foods? Also, can you get agave nectar at one of these stores? Have a great Sunday and hope this thread carries on |

Good morning!
I had raspberries and a pumpkin muffin for a late breakfast/lunch (got the recipe from the McDougall site...you take a box of regular cake mix, lowest fat content you can find) and mix it with a can of pumpkin and some water and then just bake it.) I know that's not the healthiest option on the list, but it was an enjoyable Sunday morning treat with my coffee. Now I'm super full. Got to watch the wheat this week, though. Maggy, what I loved about Fuhrman's book was when he's talking about all the nutrients we get when we eat lots of veggies and fruits. I tend to shop at my regular grocery store but yesterday I picked up raspberries, blueberries, oranges, pineapple, broccoli slaw, shredded carrots, mushrooms, beans, potatoes, walnuts and two kinds of fat free salad dressing. Still working on finding a ff/lf salad dressing that I really like...haven't found one yet. Wendy, thanks for the protein powder picture. I don't think that's too high priced at all. I've paid just as much for whey and soy based powders in the past. |

Glad to see others who appreciate furit and veggies. I was once harrassed by people who said vegetables were POISON. (and they were not referring to germs that can get on them either). Last edited by fluffybear2 : 07-27-2008 at 09:16 PM. |

Wendy, I love that picture!! I am off to go shopping myself today and that is what my grocery cart looks like also, but thanks for posting as you reminded me that I am out of lemons
Rachael, yes, I agree about Dr. Fuhrman and what he says about the nutrients. Funny, all I ever cared about before was losing the weight so this has been a refreshing "eye opener" Hey Fluffy Bear...how are you doing today? Well, did an hour on the treadmill last night so my legs are a little sore this AM, but off to do my shopping..and to get some Rice Protein Powder as my DD's won't drink the whey anymore because they are vegan.(Thanks for the picture Wendy) Check back later. Have a great day everyone ![]() |

I've got my fruit ready to go for work. Might take some brown rice as well, it's already cooked and ready to go. I want to get some Rice Protein powder, too. A smoothie with some protein powder in it sounds really yummy. Have a good day everyone! Rachel |

I'm actually doing the Mediterranean diet rather than Eat to Live. You can either do it vegetarian or not. But I found some great recipes for the Mediterranean style of eating in this month's Vegetarian Times. I am ordering a book called Mediterranean Vegan.
