Here's what I usually eat most days:
Breakfast: I used to eat a lot of sugar free whole grain cereal like Grape Nuts or Shredded Wheat with a sliced banana, but I have transitioned to all fruit for breakfast and now have either berries with Almond Breeze non-dairy milk or a tropical fruit bowl (sliced banana, 1/2 mango, 1/2 papaya, pineapple chunks and just a sprinkle of unsugared raw shredded coconut on top) or some type of citrus fruit. Lunch: A huge salad usually consisting of lettuce, cherry tomatoes, shredded or sliced carrots, sliced cucumbers, chopped celery, sliced onions, bell pepper rings and maybe raw mushrooms. I use a FF or nearly FF dressing with the lowest fat content. Supper: Usually fresh veggies steamed or sauteed in water eaten with about 1/2 to 1 cup of brown rice or whole wheat pasta. 1 cup of beans if not included in the sauteed or steamed veggies. ( I have a rice cooker with a steamer basket and can cook my rice and veggies at the same time if I want to). Snacks: Fresh fruit or vegetables. For a vegetable dip I make hummus out of canned garbanzo beans (chickpeas) in my blender or baba ganou (out of steamed and peeled eggplant).

I'm doing plant based eating too. I mostly post on veggieboards.com now for recipe ideas, ect. My fav salad dressing is olive oil, lemonjuice, garlic & pepper. Did you know it's best to eat veggies and fuits separately because they disgest differently? I had a salad w/ orange * cranberry when I first started and got super bloated.
![]() I'll hang with you and do this. I've been eating too much bread. I don't eat dairy or eggs. |

Breakfast smoothies are great. With smoothies you can mix fruits & veggies to gether w/o affecting digestion. One of my favs is nectarine, apricot, pear, and a handful of sbaby spinach....I use these fruits whole and the skins just blend in smoothly. A little rice milk or a smidge of water and ice cubes. I sometimes put rice protein powder in a banana pineapple smoothie made with rice milk.
Oh agave nectar is very low glycemic and doesn;t raise blood sugar. It come in a container like honey at the health food store. |

hi all,
back to being strict has been feeling good so far. today i wasn't to hungry for breakfast, but i did have a can of beans and edamame salad mixed in. i have been thinking, and do think i want to weigh myself anymore. i haven't weighed since i started this and it feels freeing. i mean, i feel a lot thinner and i think i look thinner. so, i think no more weighing for me! but, since i'm not going to weigh on friday, i think i am going to post a current pic to compare to one i took at the beginning to see if you guys can see a difference! i'll be posting later

I usually don't eat fruit and veggies together, but I was thinking about doing that. I can see the logic in not eating them at the same time. Thanks for the tip. ![]() |

I will be starting this plan once I return from my vacation on July 15. It seems so interesting and healthy from the information I have gathered and read up on . I even checked out Dr. Fuhrman's website and are tempted to order his books.
Anybody have them? I hope its ok to post here until then. |

Hi all!
I check in on this thread for recipes and meal ideas. I'm eating vegetarian, focusing on lots of fruits, veggies, and whole grains. I know it's not low carb, but it's not high carb either. For those of you looking for more plant-based eating ideas, I like the McDougall site and also one called fat free vegan has lots of ideas. Rachel |

Wow, I can see where your tummy is getting flatter and your legs are leaning out. Your arms look fantastic!
Are you feeling pretty good emotionally eating this way? I feel so much better since I cut out regular dairy. I think it was making me grouchy or something. |

I'm pretty much following a plant based diet and easily maintaining the 12-13 pounds I lost earlier this summer on a very low carb, very low cal diet. It's a very simple way to eat and that really appeals to me and I love the food choices. I have no cravings or any desire to binge at all.

Plants are da bomb!
I have finally settled on the Mediterranean diet which has more veggie dishes than animal dishes and the only extra fat is from olive oil. It could even be vegetarian. |

I assume if need be, one can still loose on a plant based diet, if need be, am I correct? Are you following any book or guidelines or just going with the flow of? I gather that there are still portion sizes that we need to take into consideration with some of the types of foods right? Last edited by Moretta : 07-25-2008 at 10:32 AM. |

Can anybody tell me what protein powder if any you are using? I really don't want to purchase anything with soy in it? Any suggestions?

People on the McDougall site say they are losing weight. I'm using McDougall as a rough guideline, but even he has three different programs.
I am currently eating the following items: potatoes rice whole grain pasta (I do better with rice/potatoes, though.) all green, red, and yellow veggies low fat salad dressings (less than 2g of fat per serving) whole grain cereals (I do better with rice based than wheat based) all fruits all beans oatmeal rice milk sunflower seeds a little bit of real sugar a little bit of soy sauce all seasonings coffee If I go out for dinner, I'll "allow" added fats and some seafood. Like maybe get a shrimp caesar salad at a restaurant. Or some pasta with veggies and olive oil. I'm mostly cooking at home and bringing my food to work, though. Rachel |

hey moretta,
i don't use a protein powder, so i get most of my protein from legumes. i have tried many, many types and its been quite fun. i just went a got every type of goya canned bean since all beans are unlimited. i get a lot of protein and fiber. also, i like to have 2 TB of peanut-butter of an oz. of some other nuts for some more protein. on the note of soy, until last week i was really avoiding soy products. but, i have since incorporated light Silk soy-milk. it's not too caloric, but 1 cup has six grams of protein. throw it in the blender with fruit and you're good to go. but definitely Silk brand-- 8th Continent brand has some frightening ingredients. |
