I'll tell you what: my food processor is the best low carb investment I have ever made. It's opened up a lot of low carb options for me that are easy.

I also have a cheesecake baking for desert the rest of the week, and I made strawberry flax seed muffins to take to work. I'm going to be having the best lunch ever this week.

Flower, it's a great idea to cook once and eat several times. Cooking your own turkey...you know it's going to be real food...that's awesome. I always hesitate to buy lunch meat and etc. I even asked at Target one day if they had any low sodium meats in the deli? And even the most "natural" ones where full of salt.

Rachel
Rachel - There are a few different farmer's markets from June to October near where I live and they sell a lot of fresh fruits and veggies and I can't wait to go and check those out! I'm sure the prices are a lot cheaper than regular grocery stores and everything is real fresh too.

Did you use George Stella's Pizza Crust recipe or another one? Those strawberry flax muffins sound yummy too! That's great you made a cheesecake for the week. I really love cheesecake and am always looking for a good low carb recipe that has a good crust with it too. Glad you're really getting good use out of your food processor. I have a mini fp that sits on my counter all the time. I use it everyday for the fast little mini protein cheesecakes that I make. I also use it to take my cooked cauliflower from the microwave and it quickly turns it into "riced cauliflower." I also bought a large food processor a few months ago to do bigger chopping jobs when I have a lot of veggies to chop up. I need to start using that once a week to get all my veggies ready, lol!

And yes Rachel - it's so great to cook things once and have several servings from it. You're right about the lunchmeat, it's a shame that it's loaded with salt! So, when I saw on a healthy cooking show that she said she cooks up a turkey once a month and has her own lunchmeat for the month and freezes some of it - I thought that was a wonderful idea!

I think when the turkey is gone, I'll make a beef roast and then maybe a ham. The only thing is, the hams I looked at - are also loaded with salt. So, I may try making it and if the salt affects me too much - then I just won't make it again.

Ooh, I didn't think about mushrooms! I love mushrooms and I always forget about them and that they're a great low carb veggie!!! I have a nice breaded mushroom recipe that I found on the internet back in the late 90's when I did low carb the very first time. I've even served them to other people and they didn't even know they were low carb, lol! I will have to make the shish kebabs soon too! Let us know how your's turn out!!!

Thanks everyone for all the great menu ideas. I have found that the Dietz & Watson turkey breast is the lowest in salt & doesn't contain any preservatives. So when you're in a rush & don't have time to make a Turkey, this is a decent cold cut to pick up. Several friends tried it on my recommendation & now it is their favorite tasty turkey breast. Yesterday I made two sunny side up eggs cooked in CO & butter with a topping of colby jack + boursin cheese, YUM! Second meal was a rare colby jack cheeseburger & dark chocolate for dessert.

Today I have lots of clean-up to do in my condo in anticipation of having a new air conditioning unit installed.

Jimmy Moore will have a two part interview with Dr. James E. Carlson, the author of a fabulous new book called Genocide!: How Your Doctor's Dietary Ignorance Will Kill You. If you support the high-fat, low-carb nutritional approach to weight loss and health, then you are gonna fall head over heels for Dr. Carlson! Let's just say he's not very fond of the current dietary recommendations of a high-carb, low-fat diet. "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore."

Morning peeps! Hope all is well in the land of IF.

I'm going to do my first full week of TSF starting today. I am back to my sig weight with all the water gone from meds from last week. Don't care if my scale moves now, just want to lower my body fat. If scale does down, that will just be a bonus!

Everyone have a great IF day!

Good morning ladies,

I started off the week right with an early morning workout with a friend at the gym. We walked for 30 minutes and then did 30 minutes or so of light weight training. One of my close friends just joined my gym and we're planning on trying to meet and workout together at least 3 times a week.

My weigh-in showed me down a pound this morning, which is great considering last week was TOM and a had A LOT of carbs over the weekend. I basically took a break from fasting on Saturday and Sunday after doing my first 24 hour fast from Thursday - Friday. I'm happy to say that even with the extra carbs, I think my calorie consumption was right on par over the weekend. I went to two cookouts and had a bite or two of everything that I wanted but didn't go overboard and gorge myself.

As for my fasting experiment...well, I really didn't have a problem doing the 24 hour fast because I did it on a day when I was really busy and didn't have a lot of down time. The problem is that when I did eat (even though it was only one meal), I think I ate WAY too much. The Fast-5 method seems to work better for me. When I know I have a 5 hour window, I don't feel pressure to eat as much as possible as fast as possible. For right now I think I'm going to stick with Fast-5 and maybe do an occasional longer fast. I also wasn't too sure about having the weekends off from fasting. I did it this weekend because I knew I was going to be in a lot of eating situations. I think for future weekends I may fast and just adjust my window to be open a little longer if the need arises.

All in all, I think my first full week of fasting turned out well. I learned a lot about how my body feels full vs. empty and felt true hunger for the first time in forever. I'm still playing around with when I'm going to have my window, and that's okay. I've also learned that moderate carb eating is easier for me than low carb eating. It seems like I don't eat as many frankenfoods if I'm still having a bit of fruit, or some other healthy carb every day. If I'm working out in the mornings, it makes more sense for me to have an eating window of 1-6 which allows for me to have lunch and dinner.

The plan for today is to open my window between 1-2 with some nuts and maybe a small ready made protein shake/bar, depending on how hungry I am.

After work I'll have a couple of hamburgers from the cookout as the filling of my flat-out light wrap topped with a little cheddar cheese, mustard and mayo. I'll eat my wrap with either a small salad or some green beans.

Shortly before my window closes I'm going to make a homemade protein "milkshake." I'll use a cup of low fat plain yogurt, two scoops of vanilla protein powder and a cup of frozen pineapple along with some water and ice. It's super yummy and comes in at around 300 calories/60 grams protein.

Hope everybody has a great on program week!

Lets see.... Vegas is soooo much better than El Paso, but my house there still hasn't sold so that's quite a pain in the butt. Going to have to find more income sources for a while until it sells (gah, more work!)

As for diet....well, there really hasn't been one for a while and I had regained almost 15lbs. I'm finally getting that under control again and I'm only up 6 from siggy, but it'll come off soon.

Today is day 3 getting back to IF & day 2 of LC so I'm lots of fun to be around lol.

IF was sooooo good for me and I was losing pretty well that it's just time to come back to it. There's still enough time in the year that I can at least get 30-40 more lbs off.

I've been reading the threads and trying to catch up, lots going on but seems like everyone has been doing well!

wow that was a novel lol

Well, dd & sil are on their way for their vacation, and will be back here on Friday, stay another couple of days, then head home.
Son and grandbaby came for a visit yesterday, and it was really nice having them all here.

My weight is up 2.2 lbs. this morning, but am not at all discouraged, because yesterday I was on my feet much more than usual, and my eating, even tho on plan, was sporadic and measly, at best, with not nearly enough food and I had very little water. I was just too excited and busy laughing to even think of food.

They loved the egg parm, and son took a big container of it home, so there is just enough left for us for a couple of omelets. I'm so glad it's just about gone, cause there is very little room in the fridge.

Anyway, the house is quiet again, and I just got back from therapy, and boy, did she give me an upper body workout this morning. She has me doing flys, military presses, and arm extensions withe 5 lbs. weights. I started with 2 lbs., so am progressing nicely. Unless the doc gives more orders, next Monday will be my last session.
I have been told on no uncertain terms, that to keep everything in tip top shape, and to avoid injury, I must do this routine 3 x a week, without fail.
So no more putting it off cause it may hurt.
I'm consistent with my lower body workouts, so that's not a problem.

This post got to be a bit longer than I planned, so I'll see you all a bit later.

“It’s not who you are that holds you back, it’s who you think you’re not.” ~ Anon

How many times have you told yourself “I can’t do that?” Most us probably say it more often than we realize. Every time you are faced with a challenge, do you automatically think of all the things holding you back or do you think about the things you have that make it possible? A positive attitude about yourself can catapult you into higher achievement. So, the next time you hear yourself saying, “I can’t,” remember that YOU CAN!

Oh, thanks Barb - that's great to know that there is a nice lower sodium turkey out there! Do you happen to know what stores carry it? Maybe Whole Foods or Trader Joes? I never thought to check at those stores - I bet they have the brand you're talking about, or at least meats that are lower in sodium with no preservatives. Thanks so much for the great tip!

I hope the clean-up goes quick and smooth for ya!

Leigh - That's great that your down a pound! yeah, I tried 1 meal a day and I found that I ate too much at the one meal too. A few meals a day works best for me. I try not to ever overeat at any meal, just to be comfortable - and I find that really helps with weight loss! I too really like low carb, but I love fruit, so I do have a little bit of fruit along with a lot of protein and veggies. Your protein milkshake sounds really good. I love making protein milkshakes with frozen fruit. I usually use frozen strawberries, and when I'm done it tastes just like a milkshake. Makes a really fun meal and great dessert!

Yeah, I know those days when I'm really busy at home, or I'm out at someone else's house - I usually try to stick to my plan as best as possible - but it doesn't always work. I usually stick with my eating plan pretty well, but I never get to drink a gallon of water or get my 30 minutes of exercise done when I'm not at home. I always expect the scale to be up a little from not getting in enough water or exercise the day before. The good thing is, the scale will go down for ya, and I try to tell myself the same thing -that a day of getting back to drinking all my water and my exercising will take off those 2 lbs!

I can relate to you having very little room in your fridge. Right now mine is packed with fresh veggies, cottage cheese, sour cream, cream cheese, ricotta cheese, bagged shredded cheeses, meats, 3 dozen eggs, whip cream, etc. I love having all this good low carb food on hand, but there's no more room .

Spent another 3 hours in the water w/ the kids - 2 in the lake and 1 in the pool. So far I've had coffee, iced tea w/ lemon, tuna salad.. I was too tired after coming back to eat more, but now that I've passed out on the couch for a few, I'm ready to have some food. I'm torn between guac w/ cream or salami, cream cheese, and green olives.. wish I had some bacon... I once used bacon to dip my guac and I was in heaven.... <drool>
Actually, not that hungry right now.. Gotta love ketosis.

Oh! I should have mentioned. I got my blood test results. Funny thing is that they are actually better than the last round. WTG IF! My total cholesterol is actually normal now! Tri's are fine, HDL is 47, LDL even came down from 120 to 110. A1C was 7.3 last time, it's 7.0 now. So - I can't wait to see what the next 3 months does. The kidney stuff and liver stuff all showed normal results. I think the kidney test last time was elevated because my blood pressure was really high - hence why they put me on medication. lol. I'm a little relieved. I'm a little scared to lose my motivation for losing weight. However- I do know what kind of news I'll get now if I don't do this. Someone else mentioned 'being around to dance at my kids weddings' which really got me... I'm here for good. I can't wait to see what the next 3 months do for my blood tests.

Nice!

So I opened my window at 1pm, I really wanted a steak (haven't had a steak in probably 2 years, I'm taking a vegetarian break) so I went to Outback and had a sirloin with bluecheese melted on top - yum! caesar salad. Wasn't thinking and got a baked potato, but I just ate the toppings and a smidge of potato.

Not sure what else I'll eat. Maybe some chicken. I tried an egg cream yesterday and it was good, but the indigestion was funky. Don't know if it's how I made it, the whites, blah blah blah but I'll try it again and just play with it until I figure it out. I will say that it kept me full

How can you be frightened to lose your motivation when you've seen results from good healthy eating. You're right in knowing what news you may get if you don't keep it up, so we're here to help you along so you can dance at your kid's weddings. You CAN do this. You WILL do this!!
